I am a professor of first-year writing and rhetoric at UofH, a part-time English/college prep tutor personally, and personally and online via www.lindachristas.org and was at one point even a substitute in New Britain. I have to say the CGA sounds quite promising, primarily because students have a say in the curriculum. Encouraging independent learning and empowering students is the only true type of education reform that will work. Today's students know that they should have choices and rebel when they can't implement their powers of choice. by 6th grade they have enough maturity to make choices. The process of making choices is at the heart of learning. Naturally this can be problematic if there are too many choices, or they are choosing readings that have little depth and haven't stood the test of time, or haven't sustained some other review/approval process! Helping to narrow and focus the choices is the role of the teacher, the parent, the mentor, the tutor and, dare I say it, the publishing industry. Each student should have an individualized curriculum, which is apparently what GCA offers, and then America's dropout rate will start to decrease, and college going and retention will improve. We need a hybrid of classroom and online work to make it happen on a large scale. Let's look more closely at the homeschooling movement for inspiration.

I am a student at GCA and hoping to return next year. Now, Gca is a college prep school thats helps us widen our imagination and work independently. GCA has a variety of ways to learn. Our teachers are involved more than usual, compared to teachers at other middle schools. Also, because we are joined with Central Connecticut State University in New Britain we have more experiences for higher education and to meet professors and such. I mean, we have Dr. Jeff Mulqueen drop in every other day. I do agree with Mr. Rick Walker on his point that every kid should have individualized curriculum, this is very important. Some ways we get our individual curriculum at GCA is taking NWEA testing and taking other course test thatour teachers hand out. Just to see how we our like our behavioral patterns, our personality, our skill levels; in reading, math, science, social studies and so on just so we can be challenged and not under acheive. See every semester our teachers set goals for us as we do for ourselves we try to aim for those goals. So we might not make it or our grades might slip alittle but that doesn;t mean we hasve to give up. See, at Global our teachers strive to push us so we can achieve a goal and work hard all through the year. I have enjoyed being a student for Mr. Matt Lozeski, Mrs .Elizabeth Caswell and for Mrs. Kimberly Bodnar. I can't wait until next year

I am a sixth grader in the second year of global and I think that this is one of the best schools in the New Britain district and I think that it would be the best school for your child and become a 9th grade student with a lot of opportunities in the future.
