I view the Checkpoint Strikeforce Initiative program as a revenue ploy. Nothing more than competition between area departments and ego stroking for the Stateboys. Fines generate bucoo money for the state. Moreover, the state cares very little about honest rehabilitation and the system penalties often set offenders up for compound charges/fines.
IMHO.
You are sooooooo wrong. Call the Court and ask how much of the penalty is "FINE" and how much goes to the state or local pd compared to what their associated costs are and you'll find it's not a money maker for anyone, other than defense attornies!!!

I've said this before and I'll say it again!

Public OPinion, please do an article on the costs associated with the arrests, convictions and the VERY liberal payment plans set up versus the incurred expenses for the PD, Courts etc to show this ain't about the money!!!!

Again, danged if you do, danged if you don't. I agree with the other posts that the naysayers would be the first ones to complain if their loved ones were killed by a drunk driver. Way to go PSP. Pretty good, considering part of that time, your members were still putting on the bullet proof vests, even when they weren't getting paid. How many of you naysayers would go to a job, risking your own safety for others, and know that you were not going to get paid. I'm betting most of you wouldn't even get out of bed. Those of you working second/third shift should be happy about the drunks they are pulling off the streets when you are coming from/going to work. One less drunk to try to avoid when you're just trying to get home to your loved ones.

"...revenue ploy"? The state is making money off of LAWBREAKERS???? Sounds like a great idea to me. Better than raising my taxes.

i think cell phones cause more accidents then alcohol so where are the fines ,loss of license and the classes for these offenders look at the statistics they should be treated the same as drunk drivers.

Glad the psp can do a good job. But I didn't realize it was a contest. Who is the winner of having unsolved crimes. I wonder if they would pull over texters who would win? By the way what do they win? Is there a bonus insentive behind this?

You shouldn't drink and drive because you just might spill your beer.

The same goes for texting and cell phone use. Too bad our state legislature doesn't have the balls to outlaw this irresponsible behavior.

Sobriety checks should be illegal. It is not having probable cause to pull me over just because the police want to harass you and waste your time while they are making time and a half and more. Also, the fire company wants to help them hold the tests, just another reason why I dont donate money to them, glad they would use that money to do someone elses job.
Thank you

I could not agree more. Drinking, texting, and using cell phones are reckless actions that have caused too many fatal accidents.
It's sad that it takes a major tragedy for many legislatures to
enact laws that outlaw this kind of behavior.

Daily Horoscope for January 7

Sagittarius

If you have any worries or problems today, a close colleague could have the answers you seek. Work will be satisfying, and anything to do with children should be very rewarding today. There could be friction with a relative, but it's nothing serious and things will sort themselves out in due course. Again, you must pay attention to your health, Saggitarius: skin infections are a strong possibility at the moment.
