Outstanding performance! Congratulations to all in Troop H! Keep up the excellent work on behalf of the public. Arresting DUIs is especially important because taking drunks off the highways saves lives. If only the court system would hand down harsher sentences for repeat offenders.

If the weather makes such a checkpoint dangerous, troopers conduct roving patrols by driving around looking for specific driving behaviors.

They aren't looking for "specific driving behaviors"--what they do is pull you over for: headlight/taillight out, no turn signal, high beams on, so on and so forth. These things will get you pulled over between the hours of 11pm and 2/3am. They know they have a 50/50 chance. If one of these apply to you, you will be ok during any other hours.

When someone you love is killed by a drunk driver you will be the first to blame the police for not doing their job. I commend them and thank them.

Otis i hope you don't have any children. I'm sure that you're right and that getting drunks off the road is just a waist of time. The State Police stop lots of speeders but that jaywalking thing, they'll probably have to look into especially since that's an ordinance.
Thank you

I say thank you for doing your best to keep our community safe. It is amazing that you guys/girls get up every morning knowing that you could not come home to your families. Thank you for doing this dangerous job and keeping our communities safe! Keep up the good work!

Great job. As a "First Responder" the end result of DUI/DWI accident.wreck is not very nice nor pretty in anyones mind. Now, go tell a family they have lost someone due to the inaction of enforcement officers. Yeah. Right. Idiots. Keep it up and save lives. ANY pretense to pull someone over is fine in my book. Check em out and let em go if things are OK. If not, that cop might have save YOUR life Mr/Mrs. Whinner.

Is it reasonable to believe the "Yes" and "Otis" were arrested for DUI and are bitter, twisted freaks? Sorry guys, the rule of law trumps those who'd get behind the wheel while boozed up.

"Troop H consists of barracks in Franklin, Cumberland, Adams, Perry, Dauphin and York counties."
This is repeat article from last week and again, it just is not Franklin County. This is a large area comprised mostly of the entire south central Pennsylvania area.

I view the Checkpoint Strikeforce Initiative program as a revenue ploy. Nothing more than competition between area departments and ego stroking for the Stateboys. Fines generate bucoo money for the state. Moreover, the state cares very little about honest rehabilitation and the system penalties often set offenders up for compound charges/fines.

IMHO.

Award should be based on serious convictions and actual drunk-driving accident rate in the area and not "arrests."

<quoted text>
Knowing the expanse of the area they are covering, one would think that they could pull over 269 drunks every weekend.

What's the difference between a "serious" conviction and a conviction? The metric is correct: arrests. The PSP is law enforcement. They apprehend and arrest the drunk drivers. It is the courts who levy penalties--that's not the job of the PSP. Those arrested for DUI/DWI are prosecuted by a Prosecutor. What happens to the violator of the law after arrest by the PSP is up to others, not the PSP. Hope this helps you better understand the process, Orwell.

Anyone who choses to get behind a wheel drunk has essentially decided that no one else matters. The carnage that has resulted is just senseless, and as far as I am concerned, drunk drivers have no right to complain when the law cracks down on them.

They want the right not to be inconvenienced while they inconvenience and endanger others.

The idea is that these arrests and convictions are preventative...i.e. getting the drunks off the road prior to the accident.
In that regard, keep up the good work!

Daily Horoscope for December 22

Leo

If you ask someone to give you a hand today, don't be surprised if they make a mess of it. That's probably because their mind isn't on the job, but it might also be because your instructions aren't as clear as usual. So before you get angry, check that what you said made sense. Relations with someone older or more influential than you could also be blighted by confusion or doubt now.
