This is a Good Law! Congratulations goes to Nancy Garland for getting this done! While living in the New Albany area, Nancy Garland has made herself available at "Public Meetings" on weekends and during the week many times since she was first elected! She meets at local Coffee Places and at Libraries. This tells me and others that she is very much involved with listening to those she represents, US! Nancy Garland True Belief is "Government of the People, By The People, For The People!" Not like others whose main concern is their Corporate Donors!

Alright, Now ban women putting on makeup while driving, combing hair while driving, reading letters, reading maps and talking to other passengers while driving. Just look at the crazy people driving on Interstate 270 doing all of the above. Not only that ban them from talking on cell phones those are some of the worst things seen on Ohio highways that do and can cause fatal accidents so see how prejudice your testing ban is Just ban driving then we would all be safe. Thanks

Lots of things contribute to distracted driving. No need to single out texting and pass yet another unenforceable law.

Thanks Why are you singling out just women? I have seen men reading books, news papers,on their Laptops and even Texting! I have never seen anyone "Testing", maybe Test driving a car or truck! I witnessed a Lady reading the News paper Ads! Saw a Lady Driving Topless! Hands Free Cell Phones are even dangerous!

I have seen people driving down the road with newspapers or books laid out on their steering wheels. I once saw a person driving to work eating a bowl of cereal - holding the bowl and steering wheel in one hand and a spoon in the other. I totally agree that texting while driving is a BAD idea and we need to educate the public, but don't we already have laws on the books that prohibit distracted driving? I've yet to see an "eating while driving" or "reading while driving" law be proposed. If a police officer sees someone driving erraticaly and can prove that the person was texting, does he need a texting-specific law to cite the driver for failure to control? Why do we need laws that single out specific actions? I believe it's because our legislators think they're not doing their jobs if they don't continually thing up new ways to regulate us when old ones would work just fine.

I've been flashed by women twice while riding a motorcycle. One time it was the one driving that did it. Involuntary distracted riding!

Let me TEACH you about certain "Legislative Laws"! Drunk Driving! Seat Belts! Car Design/Engineering! "old ones would work just fine." GOP Deregulated Banking Investment "Regulation" "1995 Contract with America!" "Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act 1999" And Now their New Lie! "Pledge to America!" The Old Ones Were Doing Just Fine? YES Before 1995!

The Old Ones Were Doing Just Fine? YES Before 1995! Distracted driving is distracted driving. Period. Enforce it that way. I'm all for an education campaign to warn about the dangers of texting, but we don't need a new law - it's already covered. If you can't control your vehicle for ANY reason, you should be cited, and I don't think we need laws that single out specific actions when there are laws that would cover those actions already.

I support banning distracted driving, but why are we creating 50 different laws of what a person can't do while driving, instead create one law against distracted driving, that includes but is not limited to texting,.....etc. This would make it easier for cops to write it up. Instead of know the law for each individual distraction, have 1 law that covers anything that distracts the driver from driving.

I see the AT&T trucks all the time with the Laptops mounted so they can peck and read while they drive. What's up with that?

Texting could be construed as careless/reckless driving and a police officer could pull over a person for that, along with everything else that you see drivers doing other than driving. The issue I see is that we do not have enough officers on the streets. Increase the number of police officers and allow them to pull people over for doing these things.

Can't argue with this one. Not sure how they will police it.

Texting requires that you take your eyes and attention off the road. Plus when you move your eyes from the cell phone back to the road, it takes a few seconds for the eyes to refocus. Talking with a passenger in the car does not require you to take your eyes off the road. It is one thing to text while driving five miles north of Wilmington, but quite another to text while driving the inner belt. Too many things happen too quickly on urban streets.

So, let's get this straight. This bill makes it illegal to check your message on the phone while stopped at a red light. Likewise, it makes it illegal to adjust your GPS settings while stopped at a red light.
