What's he doing with SB5? He wants to control dealings with the local Gov't, trying to make it against the law for them to deal with their employees the way the locals want..

He jacks up income tax rates to an unbelievable amount, more than double most localities, so he can keep rec centers open along with other expense atrocities and then wonders why companies will leave? How stupid is the Mayor?

Joe Hill wrote: "an agreement by Delaware County to back a state-issued loan to purchase the current Bob Evans headquarters, estimated at $5 million" Why is Delaware County involved in this? If I read the article correctly, I believe this part of the deal only came into play if BE moved to Polaris. Though part of Columbus, Polaris is located in Delaware County. The deal is kind of the same as if a company executive is relocated and his company buys his house in the old location to facilitate his move to the new location.

Bob Evans is terrible! Has been for years...and their corporate chain business 'model' is to blame. Now they are corporate welfare prostitutes, too.

Here is what I have a problem with. I own a small business that employees 24 people. I am opening a second dublicate business in September that will employ another 24 people. It will require having a 8,000 square foot facility to be built within the City of Columbus. When I was looking for the land to build the new facility I called the City of Columbus to see if they offered any Tax Abatements or other incentives for small businesses thinking about opening a business in Columbus. In a nut shell, if you are not a large corporation that employs hundreds of people they are not interested in working with you. Small businesses are on their own while they try to lure large corporations with incentives.

Coleman is a legalized extortionist. What do you expect any company to do. The Franklin County and City of Columbus Government body are anti business unless you pay them and allow yourself to be robbed via their taxing. Coleman has ruined Columbus and turned it in to urban decay.

When will the people of Columbus realize that we are a being lead by a pied piper. Families and companies are leaving Columbus for the suburbs. Why wouldn't they with the leadership that is in place. Here are some stats, our schools can't compete with the suburbs, our homicides and crime is increasing, we are practically last in the USA in terms of major cities in recycling, and our once thriving commercial and residential areas are showing signs of urban blight. What will it take for everyone to realize that we are going backwards while the rest of the nation is moving forward? It is unfortunate that Bob Evans left but can you blame them...or more importantly what would you have done?

Well they can be as bad as they want. After all ,the Gov't doesn't own them. If they want to run their business into the ground, that's on them.

However, if we (the taxpayers) are giving them millions, then we have an interest in knowing that they have a sustainable business model, don't we? I wouldn't care if they were using their own money. But they are using mine now.

halloween jack wrote: Using state economic incentives, i.e. taxpayer dollars, to help one Ohio city poach from another is a poor use of resources. Not only is it a waste of taxpayers dollars for a state facing an $8 billion deficit it also encourages urban sprawl. This is a perfect example of the corporate welfare Kasich preaches against. I guess he's only against it when it's benefits industries or companies that don't support him politically. Ridiculous. I'd say wait until the numbers come back. Kasich is about ROI and running like a business. A $3M loan actually makes the state money. The amount of tax revenue to the state (corporate and employee income taxes and so on) are way more than $600,000 annually. If this was all about $600,000 neither Columbus or New Albany would offer millions in tax reduction. Columbus blew it. For all the companies within the Columbus borders take note. The city has terrible leadership. For all the tax money they take from these businesses and suck up income tax for people who go there for work but live in the suburbs. They have terrible schools and serious safety issues. This is a move that will make money.
