I saw this coming. I'm an experianced shooter of over 40 years. I stopped going to New Albany last summer due in part to safety concerns.

I have to agree with you there. My husband had a membership and we go every now and then. The rules are pretty strict and you had to watch a safety video prior to shooting. However, on more than one occassion, I witnessed unsafe gun handeling and so on. One time is was so bad that I stepped out and notified the range official. He (can't remember what he is called)He pulled the guys out and made them watch the video again.

What was your experience?

They had people up there practicing quick draws the last time I was up there. That is the reason it will be the last time. The guy that was doing it drop the gun and it spun around on the floor. I will never go back there. I was a expert in the military with weapons The safety in that place or lack of it made it not worth my time

That's right Ted. Let's ban everything than can kill a person, even if used by "experts".

Ted its our second amendment rights to own handguns. if you don't like us owning them. MOVE AWAY go to Canada or move to England. You won't have to worry about guns there.

How sad. New Albany makes new shooters watch a safety video before going on the range.

I guess it is never safe to post until the story is old enough that the news outlets have the facts. They are all in such a hurry to be first, so they don't really give us any facts except that "something" happened. So yeah, it appears to be suicide so whether the place was safe is a moot point.

"Another handgun death. It is time to BAN ALL HANDGUNS !!!! Even "experts" aren't safe around them !!!!"

What labeled this lady as an "expert"?

I've handled guns since the age of 8 and I'm not an "expert". Even experts can have accidents with guns if they are careless.

From the story is sounds as either this woman shot herself intentionally, or perhaps she was careless and had a jam in the gun, and in the middle of trying to clear it she pointed the gun her chest and it went off.

Guns are not magical creatures. They are machines and follow some simple principles.
1. No ammo in a gun and it cannot fire. You should never assume a gun is unloaded. You should triple check that it is before you do anything with it.
2. Most likely an accidental discharge is not going to hit you if you don't have the barrel end pointed at you or a part of your body.

I've seen people with 30+ years of experience shooting handguns have accidental discharges. It only takes a split second of carelessness to cause some serious damage with a gun.

By your analogy of an expert being hurt that we should ban guns, I say how many people have driven cars for decades and still wreck them? Are they not "experts" at driving after decades of driving? What about walking up and down stairs? We've done this act for decades and people still fall down stairs and injure themselves seriously every year. Oh my "experts" at climbing stairs can fall!!!!!!

Save your rhetoric for someone who will listen. Try New York, Illinois, California, or some other liberal utopia states. Or as others have said hop a flight to England or Canada and live in your gun-free utopia!
