I'm still trying to figure out what a "standby" store is, however. Perhaps the headline writer thought stationery and wrote standby.
That's what happens when you use a Thesaurus to find your headline words instead of, oh, I don't know, actually reading the story.:-)

An editor messed up the headline in our online version, and we have fixed it. The headline in our print version did, of course, have the store in Williamstown. Mistakes happen. We apologize. your paper is really great for one thing, giving it to students to find all the mistakes that are made.

Local Guy: Your comment is completely false. I am curious about people like you who have the time to write these nonsensical, inaccurate lies. Maybe you should consider working...I have to take time out of my 50 hour week to write this response so that the North Adams folk do not get panic stricken.
Just go in and ask the employees they will tell you, they know they are next, it might be weeks or a couple months, but its coming.
With $2500 a month rent, payroll, ect...and .99 cent knock off brand cards how can you turn a profit?
They used to have nice stuff when Tom and Helga running it.

And it is a fact it is or was For Sale.
And as sad as it would be to loose another long time merchant, certianly no one is "panic stricken"

HMmm, thats a suprise to the faculty club operator I guess:
http://faculty-club.williams.edu/... They still think they have lunch.
No more greens at Taconic???? And Morty lost $600,000,000? Did you just fly in from some other planet? If so I'll give you a quick recap, Economy BAD, Market down.(Morty didn't personally do this, external forces did.) Faculty club lunch, talked about it, still might do it, once again no one layed off that I know of yet. Taconic greens? Lots of work being done to fix that.

Glenn, the Topix headline still has: "Cheshire Standby store closes doors" is that a transcript thing, or a Topix thing?

Daily Horoscope for December 30

Virgo

If the December sales are calling you, you'd better work out a budget before you leave the house. Otherwise, you'll be tempted to use your credit card first and only consider the cost of your purchase later on. Even so, you could track down some great bargains now, provided you don't get carried away and buy items that you don't really want simply because you're astonished by the amount of money you'll save in buying them. But you'll save even more money if you don't buy them!
