You have yourselves a new assessor, so move on already! Is forgiveness not something taught up in that area? I am sure you have never made a mistake in your life right???? So good to be perfect!
How many mistakes dose it take before you learn from them.Looks like she made allot of them. And when people tried to talk to her she was rude to them. Most people would admit or would want to know if they did make a mistake, but not her.She had a chance to correct her errors and chose not to. So could you forgive someone that tried to strip allot of $$$$ from under you. And yes we do have a new assessor that i hear nothing but good things about him!
Believe me i made "NO MISTAKE"when i voted!

There is still pain...especially with those that kept their mouths shut and have questions about their land appraisals. Since they did not speak up, they will have to address their concerns with the new assessor. All things will pass with time.

Yes forgiving her would be nice but owning up to a screw up is taught around here also or did you forget that. Maybe you are one of them people that like to point fingers.

How can such a fun poll get so sidetracked by people with their own hateful agenda I don't know...

I have great memories of the drive in theater. I remember my Dad and big brother driving through it one night looking for me. ha - that's another story though - ah to be a teenager again.

Anyway, the things I remember about Neligh. Not having to worry about walking home alone at night. Going into the grocery store and not worrying about locking the car doors. Knowing that my neighbors would show up with 15 different casseroles the night after my Grandma passed away... and that those same people would show up the next day to see if there was anything else they could do.

Sure, there was the "can't poop without your neighbor knowing what color it was" but if they want to know so bad... I hope they got a real good whiff of it too. ;-) Gossip is everywhere. Spitefulness can come from anyone depending on what kind of day they have had - human nature I guess.

All in all tho, looking back, I really can't complain too much about growing up in little Neligh, Nebraska.

I agree. I was only there for a very short time, in the late 90's, but it was a nice quiet time. I even went to the drive-in.........Too bad people spend so much time griping about who's doing what....life is too short!

Life is short and it is a shame that the idiots try to take the little bit of it out from underneath you. It is all out of greed. It is all greed! And greed will kill it everytime.

I love Neligh and go back a couple of times a year. I would venture to say that the people who have knocked Neligh on here probably don't like where they live now either.
I grew up in Neligh in the sixties, still take the paper that I delivered as a boy. I can still go to the Starlight, the New Moon, the beautiful park for a picnic; just like I did when I lived there 40 years ago.
They still have a great county fair, Fred Penn Lake and the list could go on and on. The quality of life in Neligh is hard to beat. Some day I hope to move back.

I can't believe how much according to all the post, how Neligh has changed. I grew up in Neligh and still consider it my hometown. All my relatives still live there and I try to make it back at least once a year to see everyone.

It used to be a place where everyone was kind and treated everyone with respect. You could walk down the street and someone would stop you to talk. It's a shame that's it not quite like that anymore.

O.K., I'm from Neligh too but don't remember a lot of good things. Is the "Key Club" still in business? Seems like there were a lot of drugs among the teens for such a small town, and that "Young Men's Club",,,,what was that all about. Its a good place to move away from. Believe me I know....just don't move to Valentine. It's worse!

lol thank god it got back to the main subject i cant say i know much about it but all towns have there bad areas and good ones some turn to drugs but small towns are still better than big ones by a long shot at least i think so i lived near omaha and i plan on being a farmer in elgin and will be near neligh everytime i visit those towns the people are way nicer than anyone in omaha there all great people and yes there is some drug stuff but its no worse than anywere else some people think its worse there cause the live there but the truth is it is everywere you just dont see it all the time the other places just hide it but in a small town everyone knows everyones buisness some people see that as a bad thing i see that as a good thing if your kid is doing drugs you would find out pretty fast and your kids wont do as much bad stuff because you will most likly find out i would trust a small town over a large town any day

Well put!! I too have many good memories of Neligh.
Once when my brother was visiting....every place we went someone would stop to talk ....... my brother said "Do you know every one in town?!?" I've always remembered the friendliness I received in Neligh.
Yes, there were some hassles; but the overall experience of Neligh makes me wish I could move back there.

I recently moved to Neligh and like it very much but I'm sure I would not have liked living here as a young adult. There isn't much excitement for that age group.
I do believe it is a great place for children to grow up. The public school here has much more to offer in regards to the quality of education. The teacher student ratio is excellent. The extra curricular activities, particularily sports, are much more accessible compared to large schools. I was extremely impressed with this year's graduating seniors. Not only did they have a 100% graduation rate, but every single student is panning on continuining their education.
I can only think of two advantages to a child growing up and attending school in a large city. Every student, no matter what their interests, can find a peer group to fit in with. Then, when they have completed their education, they will have access to more career opportunities without having to relocate.
I enjoy the friendly atmosphere, all the close to home outdoor activities like hunting, camping, and fishing. I always look forward to Neligh's July 4th celebration. The Young Men's Club organizes a spectacular program. I enjoy not getting stuck in traffic and everyone here is friendly, including the government employees. Imagine that in Omaha!
If you are a young couple with children, it would be far preferable to make you home in this safe welcoming community. Unfortunately, people must live where the best jobs are located and that is one thing a small town can't offer unless you are a farmer or small business owner.

John W. DeCamp (born July 6, 1941), a Republican, is a former member of the Nebraska Legislature and author of the book The Franklin Cover-up: Child Abuse, Satanism, and Murder in Nebraska.

[edit] BiographyBorn in Neligh, Nebraska, DeCamp joined the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was later assigned to serve as an aide to former CIA director William Colby, who was Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam at the time. Beginning his campaign for election while still stationed in Vietnam, DeCamp was elected and served four terms as a Nebraska state senator, from 1971 to 1987. In the May 2006 election, he was rebuffed in his attempt to return to the Legislature.

He is currently a practicing attorney in Lincoln, Nebraska. He served as a lawyer for the Militia of Montana, a constitutional militia group in the 1990s.[1]

DeCamp was also the lead perspective on Conspiracy of Silence, an unaired documentary about the Franklin child abuse allegations.
