Guns help us in ways as guns effect us in the negative light as well, so are we going to totally ban the sale of guns?

Pain killers help some people and others they just cause dentramental effects that can lead to death, the only answer I believe, is to spread the knowledge about how dangerious any opiate could be.

Opium does have life-saving effects.

In developing countries, as well as the United States narcotics are often used to induce constipation in patients who are suffering from prolonged chronic diareaha.

Opium is not evil, nor are it's alkaloids from which oxycontin and morphine are made. However it is the abuse of this drug that makes it so dangerous.

As a curious note, Opium was legal for use and sale in the United States until 1930. It was used by upper class women, as an alternative to alcohol and was considered more lady-like. It was also rubbed on toddlers gums to help with teething pains.

There are no reports of wide-spread abuse. However, opium has been used for roughly 4,000 years, with the earliest records of the drug dating back to approx 2000-1500 B.C.

It's true YOU DO NOT PLAY WITH THESE DRUGS. But, when needed, opiods can, have, and will continue to save lives daily, by taking away pain that would otherwise cause an individual to take his or her own life. The medical term for such pain is "suicidal pain." It is unfortunate that opiods are the only pain relieving drugs that are legal for sale in this country that can take away such levels of pain.

Furthermore it is a shame that there are several ingredients that can be added to drugs such as methadone, and oxycontin, vicodin and the like that take away the addictive qualities of the drug while still allowing the full analgesic qualities of the drug to work.

SAD FOREVER- I am truly sorry for the loss you have sustained. However, perhaps your loss and your participation on this board will save a life. So, thanks for your contribution and your comments. Stay strong, time heals even the disturbing events of our lives.

Sincerely,
E

Paregoric
From Wikipedia
Paregoric, also known as camphorated opium tincture, is a medicine known for its antidiarrhoeal, antitussive, and analgesic properties.

The principal active ingredient of this mixture is morphine (0.4 mg/mL), with other ingredients being benzoic acid, camphor and anise oil.

The main effect of this preparation is to increase the muscular tone of the intestine, and also to inhibit normal peristalsis. Its main medicinal use is to control fulminant diarrhea. It is also an antitussive (cough suppressant).

Paregoric is mainly of historical importance — it was devised in the 18th century, but can still be found in the United States Pharmacopeia. During the 19th century it was a favourite household remedy that was widely used to calm fretful children; it was used sporadically for this purpose until paregoric was regulated in the latter half of the 20th century. Paregoric can mask symptoms of diseases that need urgent medical attention and is generally regarded as outdated.

Paregoric (camphorated tincture of opium) should not be confused with tincture of opium or laudanum. Paregoric contains 0.4 milligrams of morphine per milliliter, while tincture of opium (laudanum) contains 10 milligrams of morphine per milliliter, 25 times more. Confusion between the two drugs has led to overdose and deaths in several patients. The term "paregoric" should always be used instead of "camphorated opium tincture", since the latter may be confused with opium tincture.

Paregoric is a Schedule III drug under the United States Controlled Substances Act.
******* I remeber my mother having this around when I was kid. It would stop a stomach ache in seconds. I saw her rub it on my sisters gums when whe was teething. Later in life I remeber finding piles of empty paregoric bottles in the woods. I heard junkies would cook it down and inject it.It later was higer regulated .You can still get Parapectolin and Kaopectalin both have opium in them and they work wll for stomach distress. They can be obtained without prescription but you do have show ID and sign for them.

TIM- Herion is a very toxic drug, There are more od's from Herion then any other Drug. And it can not be regulated, ounce the addict gets a dose of herion that he is not getting high on any more he will keep increasing the does until he does, Thats why addicts use drugs not to be regulated we use them to get high !!!! And with herion you chase that high non stop. Methadone is the only drug that helps regulate opiate addicts.

God bless you. Hang in there, though. This world is a tough place to live and hard to cope with. The escape these drugs bring are not worth it. I hope you continue on your path. Time does heal all wounds, and after awhile your memory of the feelings you had while on the drug will diminish. I wish you the best.

You can get pain medicine in this country if you really need it. All you have to do is take all of your medical records, MRI's, etc. to a licensed pain management doctor and discuss your situation. You may have to go to several different doctors to get the right medication for your pain level, but if you have the correct evidence of injury or disease the medication is available. You MUST have evidence of a problem that requires medication if you expect to find any help, and you must be persistent, but if you are a legitimate chronic pain patient, the medication is available here.

There is not a damned thing wrong with strong narcotics being used by chronic pain patients who have a legitimate need for them. If I didn't have my prescriptions, my already painfilled life would be a hell of a lot worse.

someone lied to you, heroin even pure doesn't normally kill. The ingredients used to cut the drug usually do the killing. Please stop blaming the messenger so to speak!

*Ashlee* hang in there girl ive been an oxy addict for over 2 years and have hurt alot of people i love too. Dont feel like it is all your fault. When this stuff takes control of you, you become a different person. The desperation you feel when your going through withdrawals is what makes you hurt people and yourself. My first step was getting put on an antidepressant, it really helped my depression and made going through w/d a little more bareable. I still use but i am trying to kick it using suboxone and subutex. I dont know if those w/d drugs would help you because you use heroin and i use oxys. I know that in my case they really make kicking the habit a little more bareable. It also helps if you have someone to talk to, who wont judge you for what you have done. People who have never been addicted to opiates have no idea how bad it is when you get dope sick. It is the worst feeling in the world. I would suggest maybe finding a methadone clinic in your area and just talking to someone there about your problem and see if they can help. Though i have heard of heroin addicts useing suboxone to get off, but it also depends on how much you are doing on a daily basis. If you need help getting these suboxones or if you just want someone to talk to im willing to listen. I know how you feel. Ive been there and if you need someone to talk to im here for ya. I know its hard but dont give up. Just leave a post and we can exchange phone numbers or instant messenger screen names if you would like to talk on there. stay strong ashlee.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
