I haven't had the pleasure of being pulled over by this guy, but have had similar experiences in the past. The best thing to do is make eye contact and never break it. Answer questions with as few a words as possible. If they ask "do you know you were________" the answer is always "I was not aware of that" because they can note on the ticket that you admitted guilt. Don't make excuses because they've heard them all. If they ask personal questions the answer is always "that's personal". If they get an attitude, let them vent and try not to react. Once they are finished ask them if you are free to go. If they say no then ask them why they are detaining you. If they don't give an answer you like then ask them again if you are free to go. Keep this up and once they realize that you’re not intimidated by the badge then they'll hurry up and do their job.

See Algernon that's what I was trying to do but he totally threw me w/the personal questions when he started w/them and I answered them like an idiot...I wasn't rude or anything to this officer..tried to hold eye contact when he told me why he had stopped me I told him that I wasn't aware that I was in a 25 mph zone and then he ask me if I knew how fast I was going I replied no sir I don't and he told me it was....43. I don't know I just wanted to see if I had caught him on a bad day or if this was his attitude at all times...if it's his attitude all the time then he needs a desk job pushing papers....they don't care if you're rude to them....the side of the car says to protect and serve....not serve to be rude and a butthead

Well if you're feeling cocky you could use the line I tried with a traffic stop on a cop that was actually yelling at me. "I considered being a police officer once, but thought it would be more to my advantage to finish high school". Didn't help the situation at all, but the shade of red the officer's face turned made it worth it. Took the ticket to the mayor of the small town and got it dropped to a 25 dollar seatbelt violation.

Hey, dude, I get the vibe that your name on this forum should be "clueless". Look at all the other posts, maybe you're the one with the wrong impression.
Sorry I expressed my PERSONAL OPINION, did not realize you would take it sooooo personal! Yes I have known him since I was about 8 or so and have never seen that side of him, however I did not get all offended as you did. Considering I was actually saying something NICE about someone, I didn't realize that would be offensive. On the other-hand your choice of words were rather harsh, but yet you did not see me getting offended. Personally, I could care less what you think of him....the lady just asked for OPINIONS. that being said, I am a little confused as to how you are calling someone rude, when you are the one using fowl, derogatory language! Just seems a bit hypocritical to me...But that is just my opinion!
Since I apparently offended you by saying something nice, I am sure calling you a hypocrit will REALLY offend you and for that I SINCERELY APOLOGIZE..Just remember, if you can dish it be able to take it...And "If you can't something nice, don't say it at all"...Have a GREAT Night and remember it gets better!

I'm pretty sure I'm gonna get bashed for speaking my opinion on this but, here goes. It almost seems as if you took more offense that he asked about the ex-wife. Could be that I came to that conclusion because after that part of the story, you became a little evasive. However, I'm no specialist...jmo.

You know "Lil Whip" I have family and friends that are officers and none of them would EVER dream of saying something like that....can't believe that you would even think that way! Did you take the oath when you graduated the academy??? Refresh my memory how that goes again please....The ppl that I know that are in law enforcement take the side of the car very seriously....they actually protect and serve even when they don't feel like it I guess unlike you. All I can say in response to that is wow what a jerk you are....I hope that you are never the one in need and you have a fellow officer that thinks the same way as you do that would be really crappy wouldn't it?! ALL I was asking was about this man's attitude...was trying to get a general idea as to how it was...EVERYONE has a bad day every now and again and I was trying to see if this is what had happened to him or if he always has an attitude....seems to me that most ppl that have responded say that this is his general everyday run of the mill bad attitude....I am sorry that you feel I was personally attacking the P.D. that was not my intention just to get some info on your fellow officer...

No not gonna bash you seesall...he just kind of attacked me when he read who the car was registered to and wanted to know why I was driving his car when (very harsh and almost borderline yelling at me) I told him that was my husband he kind of snickered and I got the impression that he thought I was lying to him to get out of the ticket. Actually this is weird sounding but my husband's ex-wife and I actually get along..wouldn't say we were friends but not enemies either...so it really didn't bother me that he ask that question what bothered me was that he was practically yelling at me on the side of the road and I felt like he was accusing me of car theft or something....I don't understand where I was being evasive if there is something I need to clear up please let me know what it is and I will do my best to do so....and as I said before I don't want to bash anyone...I feel we are all entitled to speak our minds and opinions and that we don't have to agree on everything :o)

yes he is a sorry ass!! But it kinda looks like your being a baby because you got a ticket!!! Maybe police should give complimentary cups of coffee before issuing tickets!!! Or maybe just maybe police should just let all violators go away!! I got a ticket the other day for a seatbelt yeah i was pissed but I was just pissed at myself not the officer I didnt make an excuse!!! Once again Mr. Weaver is a grumpy sorry man but just make sure your made for the right reason.
If you would give him a little chance he might be nice --I have known him for years he likes to try and seem tuff but he is really nice guy---He is one of the better Police officers

The high court says the police have no duty to protect you or your property. We do however have a duty to arrest you if you commit a crime.

you're Sean. It's a good thing we can protect ourselves. We have to remember that too when we go to the polls to vote for president in the coming year. Don't make a mistake and put somebody in office that has no reguard for our right to defend ourselves.

I just looked this up because I usually don't believe much on here.

There's the smartass I recognize. Is is safe to guess that people in general irritate the hell out of you on a daily basis?
Your comment rediculously exaggerated. People get tickets for speeding and can't be comparred to a criminal that breaks a law resulting in jail. A speeding ticket, last time I checked , was indeed a form of law that has been broken, but give me a break the punishment is a fine.
I don't think it is asking too much for a veteran law officer to behave in a professional and respectful manner unless provoked or threatend. Everyone has a bad day but most can manage to not take it out on others. Remember this man is in a uniform that commands respect, he represents the city he works for. Lose the attitude and do your job to the best of your ability, try being polite , maybe then, people will stop calling you and asshole. If you actually need help implementing the "catch more flies w/honey than vinager" attitude, maybe you can ask Vic to give you a few lessons on being nice and friedly.

Last I checked the cops pay taxes just like everyone else. So does that mean they pay their own salary or what. Do they get their taxes back, are they tax exempt or something? If not then it seems to me that they pay their own salary, right? All these people saying that they pay the cops when in reality they pay the same taxes everyone else does so they pay their own salary.
Here's a brilliant, well thought out reply. And by simply taking a guess. Attention fellow bloggers, this guy is worth listening to and we should all try his guessing technique next time we post.
"They pay their own salery", let me GUESS, he pays up to maybe 40,000 dollars in taxes? Yeah, that makes sense!

colcat---you seem like a sincere and nice person. If he was as rude as you said he was, and I personally believe every word you said, then he was out of line and a bad day is no excuse. I have bad days too, but I never take it out on others especially while doing my job. My advice to you is do not waste any more energy or time trying to explain and defend yourself to those posts that feel like a neg. attack. It's not worth the time. Sit back and let everyone go at it and you will get your answer. Your explaination was through and seems sincere and honest. Some people just do not want to be nice. Ignore them and they will go away if you don't respond. Some find it almost a game to see if they can push your buttons enough to make you defensive and eventually mad and then pissed. And when you fire back after youve lost your cool. They laugh and feel a sense of accomplishment by getting you to say something out of anger that is not so nice. Don't take the bait.

You are so right "lil whip" the court says you must uphold the law so I ask you....do you ever speed??? Even one mile over the posted limit is considered speeding is it or is it not?! Again I want to ask you what about that oath upon graduation at the academy???? I LOVE how you tried to sidestep that whole question...I am sure that in that oath there is something about upholding the law...being a role model...and yes I think something about protecting and serving the public to the best of your ability...your ability must be in the negative range huh. I hope that I NEVER meet an officer like you!! It's officer's like you that give WHOLE departments a bad reputation!!

Thank you match...I honestly did tell my traffic stop as it happened...when I go to pay my ticket I think I am going to talk to the police chief and tell him also of my bad experience. Seems that w/officers like that on the road you would want to get them off or at least give them a warning that another complaint will result in some sort of disiplinary action. And that's why I started this thread...to see if anyone else had any problems w/him BEFORE I talked to anyone at the P.D. about him. I didn't want to say anything if this was an isolated incident....seems that others have had similar problems w/him so maybe it does warrant me talking to someone. And you're right I am sure that some of these negative ppl on here would love to see my lose my temper but the reality is that none of them know me personally and don't know what type of person I am so they can do all the attacking of me personally they want to.(in the end it just shows how unhappy they are w/their lives) Again thank you match for your support!!! I hope you have a happy and blessed day!
