People have on more than one occasion it has been suggested I offer no solutions for the problems plaguing Natchitoches….so I offer an answer,a weed and seed solution. First, we eliminate the Texas Street Welcoming Committee. The Texas Street area has become unsightly, crime ridden and dangerous. The displaced welcomers would be outfitted in matching gold 100% polyester blazers from a defunct Century 21 Realty office, relocated to Front Street, and be renamed “The Front Street Ambassadors” The Ambassadors would continue time proven tradition and ritual of saluting new comers, tourists and passer bys with their raised 40’s., welcoming all to the riverfront, demonstrating the friendliness and diversity of the community.

There are no problems plaguing Natchitoches. All the problems are in the minds of topix forum users. The City has a plan it's been working just fine until outsiders want to come change things. This is not New York City. We use local people do promote local venues. These are neighborhood people working in their neighborhoods for the betterment of natchitoches. If you feel the need to get people working downtown on Front Street I think you should work on getting some of the bluehaired ladies to roam around with cosmos and mint julips in hand. Leave what works alone. It's bad enough they fired Crazy Keith from working Keyser Ave.

Pay them with 40's I'll see if mudfoot is ok with that, but I don't expect a problem.

Maybe the chamber could help the Ambassadors by designing and marketing a Commemorative Front Street Forty malt liquor can that they could autograph for the tourists and use to raise money for the Christmas Festival.

If you spent less time trying to stir crap up and just a little time being part of the solution, you might turn into a responsible citizen. I guess your current way is alot easier, but do you really get any satisfaction by being the board ass? |

Actually, not board....spent the afternoon searching second hand stores for the gold 100% polyester blazers..... Mystery not all see Natchitoches through the chamber's kaliedoscope. |
What is wrong, does the truth hurt? Mystery tries to get you involved in good instead of spinning your crap and he becomes the bad guy? Do you hate the chamber without ever giving them a chance? |

Can't see, obviously I was attempting to use a little humor to lightly address an issue in the community. At least one person posted his acknowledgement of the humor. As for the chamber, my verdict is out on the chamber, however, their "partner in crime" POSSIBLY, the city , and the chamber together, need to come clean and release the numbers on the CF. How much comes in and where does is go? How much does the city spend in money and resources, and how much do they recoop from the chamber? These numbers are not too much to expect, especially from the city, that has an obligation to the taxpayers. I understand the chamber can be a little open, nor or they obligated to the taxpayers. When the city starts devoting resources to the chamber, well that gets a little icy. And don't get me wrong, I am supportive of the community, even if it means identifying some things that might make a few uncomfortable. |

all you people on this site need to get a grip. the crime rate in this town is bad compared to the big cities in our state we are the worst and the mayor and other cronnies that work for him want to keep it quite as not to scare off all those people who they want to retire here. a big fat joke if people only knew how bad every thing was here they would spend their money else where. whu would you want to live here yea it looks good but pull up the flooring and you can find more rot than a 100 yr old house has in the other parts of the state. and most of the history of this town is kept a big secret. they dont want people to know even the tourist to know that front street up washinton and down jefferson was nothing more than a cat house roe during the time of the river boats , we even had a china town and yea do you even know we have a jewish cemetary in this town no i dont think so the cob webs are many , if people would only go digging you would fine out so much about this place it would make you sick.

What would you call the last ummm, say centuries....if that's not a chance then, they don't need one! You got the "c" word right but it's not chance, it's "change". |

Jewish cemetary? Like you mean that one on MLK between Pavie St and Berry Ave?
Cathouses in Natchitoches in the past? You mean like the one on Berry Ave between MLK and Anita St? |

I HEARD NATCHITOCHES WAS BUILT ON TOP OF AN OLD INDIAN BURIAL GROUND. RESULT, NATCHITOCHESVILLE HORROR. SERIOUSLY, EVERY OLD TOWN HAS ITS SKELETONS. NATCHEZ, MS HAD A SAYING, "THE ONLY THING CHEAPER THAN THE BODY OF A WOMAN WAS THE LIFE OF A MAN". NATCHITOCHES IS NO BETTER, OR WORSE THAN ANY OTHER SMALL TOWN. WE CERTAINLY HAVE PROBLEMS, BUT ARE WE THE TOWN OF "BROKEN DREAMS AND MUFFLED SCREAMS"?

I don't think anyone is trying to hide history. The Jews had a very rich history here. Many families are decendents of those people. What town didn't have cat houses? What is hidden? What's your point? |
|
I think you are missing it on the city-chamber relationship. The Chamber has their portion that they are responsible for and the city has their portion. I don't even know if they cross, but the result is a benefit for many. I realize that you are not going to join or assist the Chamber, but I think you are barking up the wrong tree trying to "expose" something. I don't think the Chamber has anything to hide. Again, I would like to see you go meet with Nick. He is a nice and open guy. If you are truely worried about this, take some time and do it. You might just find that he will talk you into joining the Festival Committee. |

Why are you people talking about Jews? Jews are people too. Why are you talking about a Jewish cemetary like it's a crime? Jews have to be buried like eveyone else when they die. This is very hurtful to me and my friends who are Jews. Does anyone know of any pretty Jewish girls in this area I can date? My hobbies are collecting Civil War memorabilia and cooking.

If you want to date a Jewish woman, you should change your hobby to buying jewelry. |

Mystery they both have their parts, but why is everything so secretive.....I mean, join the chamber and you get to see what they want you to see, and the city well that is an adventure in itself. Why can the numbers not be open and out there to be examined. Could it be that our government and leaders don't want the citizens that elected them to know what the numbers are? I mean when you put the numbers out there and let the citizens see how much the city spends on the CF, and let them compare that to fire and police protection, roads, etc., the town has a base of comparison. Having an informed citizenry is not a bad thing. Some folks might be interested in seeing where the sales tax revenue is coming from. Hmmm...how many tax dollars go into Front Street, how many come from Front Street. How many tax dollars go into Texas Street, how many are spent on Texas Street. No one is saying it has to be equal, but people get upset when the questions are asked.....and that is what is ashamed. I have been told with Mr. Nick, and a chamber membership, I will get a glimpse of the chamber's role. But my overall question is....what's the big secret? Someone else is asking the question about the civic center... and by the way is that the same civic center that is rented out to sell the mandated school uniforms, so parents don't go to local vendors who are here year round? |
That's very, very hurtful sir. My father, the late Mr Rubenstein was a jeweler by trade. He made millions. But, to imply that all Jewish people are diamond hungry, well I suppose some of them are. It may be true that Jewish ladies love their diamonds, but to suggest that a pretty Jewish girl would not go out with me because I collect Civil War memorablia is very, very hurtful. Do you know any pretty, single Jewish girls? I could call you for their phone number. |
