Provencal School

Provencal school is no longer giving the kindergarden class a graduation.. they say it is because it would take to much time from learning.. I think that is crap.. The teachers dont want to take the time.. They also say it is because there are some children not going to pass to the 1st grade and it isnt fair that they cant be involved.. I personly dont see why there would be any children that couldnt pass kindergarden.. that looks bad on the teachers..
they say there will be a celebration of learning program.. If the regular graduation would take to much time how can they do this?
Also, they have made it to where they can only have two partys a year.. that is wrong.. they have taken all the fun out of school..

Do you send you kid to school for parties and graduation programs or for an education? School is not ment to be fun,if it was you would have gone.

How sad that schools seem to be doing away with these traditions, they're very sentimentel for parents and grandparents. Although they don't serve a great purpose, they do help bridge the gap between the community and the school and create great memories and sense of accomplishment for children.

Will the 8th grade still have a graduation?

Vern here!I believe in traditions also,but we have a tradition of the Japs and Chinese kicking our butts.We want parties and too have fun and three months off every year,while they demand high levels of educational standards and go to school 12 months a year.Just my opinion

i went to school when they allowed fun----and i am educated! life is about fun/work! you have to be responsible for yourself and know when its fun time and when its work time! duh! but then again our world does not believe in people being responsible for their own actions! i am very upset that provencal is not having a kindergarden graduation! i would love to see my son walk across the stage and perform cute little songs! in the real world you have those who achieve and those who do not! thats why i push my child to do good-so we will be recognized! if you dont work hard you dont get rewarded! what makes kindergarden any different? i cant help if there are some kids that will be left behind! but i do not believe like the government does: no child left behind! you only deserve what you work for and my child has been working for a reward and the graduation would be a reward for him and his family! i have talked to several parents and they all want a graduation as well so if the teachers dont have time for it the parents will get together and decorate and whatever else is needed! so whats your excuse now? if i was a teacher i would want to showcase my children! but then again teachers are not what they use to be ----what in this world is? if provencal school is as good as they put on they would want to showcase their kids as well! enough of my vent! i am still fighting for a k grad like many others and like i said i think my child deserves it and so do i!

You must not know anything about school in this day and time. First grade is extremely difficult - the children are learning to read and if they are not prepared from Kindergarden it will be so hard for them to catch up. It does NOT look bad on the teachers if some don't go on. Kindergarden isn't play and nap anyway - it's learning!!

But, I see no reason for not having a graduation. The other children can participate, too. They will just repete Kindergarden the next year. What's the big deal? It's probably that principal of their's. No jeans on picture day - only uniform bottoms. When they do have a dress down day, their shirts can't have anything on them (names or brands) or the parents will be called to pick them up. That's only on uniform days - not dress down days! Read the policy...I could go on and on.....

I don't see where a K-Graduation would hurt anyone.
I still remember when my son graduated from Provencal. And it felt just as good as it did watching him Graduated from High School.

This must not stand!
I simply cannot believe that they would cancel a kindergarden graduation. I mean, it's a landmark in thier educational lives! I hope the schol plans to bear their part in this shame. They should at least provide couselors to help guide these children through this dramatic time in their lives...

My children went to provencal and each was in a kindergarten graduation. Which I held mine back a year cause the teacher didn’t think they were mature enough for 1st grade. Which am glad so they didn’t walk with the class they started with but that was ok they walk the next year when they were more mature and ready to study and learn more. It is precious memories due to one of my children pass away right after she started first grade but we have the memories of her walking that year at her kindergarten graduation. I hope they change their mines and keep up the old tradition.

Vern Here! You have kids already failing Kindergarden and you are still worried about a graduation and more parties? And your upset because they want your child to maybe dress up for pictures? And you want little billy bob jr. to show up on dress down day with a big ole reble flag on his t-shirt! The one smart thing you said was kindergarden was not play or nap time,but then you follow that up with(They will just REPETE kindergarden)

3.could not ware jeans on picture day

CAN I ASK WHERE EDUCATION FALLS IN YOUR PRIORITY LIST? I mean the fact you have kids not able to pass kindergarden would bother me a little more then it seems to bother you.

I need to start by saying vern you have no reason on this thread. I would hope if you had a child in kindergarten you would want the same for your child .....but probably not. I will stop at nothing until provencal has a graduation this year. My child deserves to be rewarded for all of her efforts this year and a graduation is what she will get. Like scarlett said we the parents have agreed to take on the responsiability of doing everything to make it happen. We will decorate order cap and gowns get diplomas whatever we have to do. We even have a certificate for the children who are being held back so they will not feel left out. The teachers act like this is the first year there have been children that have not made it to first grade. What have they done about those children over the last 50 years when k grad have been goin on. It is an excuse for the teachers and the principle because she has more say than the teachers. I have bragged on this school until I think I might be eating my words. What are the teachers and principle's excuses now!!!

Kindergarten graduation does not interfere w/ "class" time at all. The kids use their music time to practice the songs and teachers sent their speaking parts home with them so that parents could help them memorize it.

And the skills they used to prepare for graduation were JUST as useful as reading and writing. Socialization, following directions, memorizing lines and songs are all part of the learning experience for 5 year olds.

My children were both a little shy at that age and public speaking was a very big accomplishment. They both had a Kindergarten graduation at Provencal and I still have very fond memories of that day. It wasn't a big production...but it was a very important rite of passage. Schools should not do away with these traditions.

I'm with Vern on this none of you have said anything about how important education is.And now you want to talk about the princple and teachers.Way to go Vern!!

Nobody said anything about Rebel flags on t-shirts, you idiot! I'm talking about parents having to get kids from school for having Tommy flags and Polo horses on their shirts for pictures that THE PARENTS pay for. You odviously know nothing, Vern. The school gets a portion of each picture package purchased. The children should be able to dress down for pictures that WE are going to buy.

As far as graduation, GO FOR IT PARENTS! Good luck to you. Stick it to them!!
