Do you support the ban on running deer with dogs or are you opposed to it?

i dunno, i am wondering why they want to ban using dogs...is it b/c not enough deer?
if that is the reason then that is b/c there are 2 many hunters, not too many dogs. they are prolly just trying to make it to where there will be more deer for more hunters and im ok with that. the dogs just make it easier to kill the deer. |

Dogs do not know boundaries and can't read posted signs. What happens alot of times is the dogs will run onto neighboring properties and disturb those who do not use them to hunt. Sometimes the dogs are not picked up after each hunt and they wander. They are raised to run deer and that is what they will do. Until someone finds the dog and returns it, the dog will continue to run deer. I do not oppose the use of dogs for running deer, although I do not use them. It becomes a problem when those who are not responsible enough to use them do not keep up with their dogs. An dthe are left to roam.

I no longer hunt because it's too expensive now days. I have noticed not deer in the last few years then I've ever noticed before. I think the increase in deer is because of less hunters due to having to have a lease of hunt on government land. I have no problem with dog hunters. It was my favorite way to hunt deer for 5 years. In those 5 years of hunting everyday, I only killed two deer. My hunting party only killed about 14 deer. It's as much hearing the dogs work as it is shooting a deer. Responsable hunters will catch the dogs when they pass.

We have a Morgan Curr dog that is typically used for hog hunting. We don't hunt much but he has gone on a few hunts. We had a few hounds at one time and the Curr went on a few coon hunts as well. As for deer, we have had on a few occaisions, friends call us because they just shot a deer and it ran off deep in the woods and could not be found , and would we bring our dog out to find him. And he found the deer every time. That is when a dog comes in handy for deer hunters. I wonder how many wounded deer have been lost that way. If the shot doesn't kill then instantly don't they always keep running after they get shot.

I have ran deer with dogs before. And I know some good people who dog hunt.I don't have a problem with the dogs, but with thier irresponsible owners. But the problem is when you have people who turn them loose on other peoples property and then stand in the middle of the parish road with thier rifles or shotguns.I guess they think since they don't own the land on either side of the road it is okay to just hunt the road.
Like I said before I have ran dogs before and I know alot of good people who run dogs.It is just the small percent of idiots that will ruin it for everybody. |

You Are So Right. |

I hope you have the appropriate permits, otherwise you'd be breaking the law by keeping a deer imprisoned. |
|

It will be outlawed because it is considered "cruelty to animals" by people who don't know anything about it.
Let 'em tell that to Prince Charles next time he goes fox hunting. |

I know we should not mention NT but the lady who writes for Fairview had alot to say about the BAN of hunting dogs in last thursdays column.

Well I read this morning in the paper, where the very same juror who introduced the ban is now saying she wants to drop the idea of the ban.
She said the "few bad apples" are responsible for damage to property such as cutting fences and damaging pastures. Okay.So what do they plan on doing to these "few bad apples"?They know that there are some of them out there. Maybe they should think about something along the lines of a minimum acreage required to run dogs.Like maybe you have to have at least 500? or 1000? acres to be able to run dogs.I know that those walker dogs can run a deer a long ways but if you have a large lease there would be less of a chance of them getting on other peoples property. And with a bigger lease, with some roads, you would have more of a chance of cutting the dogs off. Then there would not be a big problem of people standing in the middle of the public road with a high powered rifle. |

1 How about the roads Mimi, don't worry about a dog. How about the GARBAGE Mimi, don't worry about a dog. |

Rezq, I generally rn counter to what you have to say, but you are exactly right. It's no worse than animal abuse when a dog is left by the hunters. |

I Hate Hunters with Dogs!, and out of town Hunters!I can't tell you how many times I've had to run them off my land. They start chasing there dogs across my land and they lose there minds in the frenzy just to shoot something, I've had TWO of my tan calves killed by DAM Hunters with dogs! I was never able to find out who did this.
Its not the dog, Its the "OUT OF TOWN HUNTER" that doesn't care about boundaries or what he kills or destroy es. Men who live and work in the larger towns like Shreveport go to there sporting good stores and outfit themselves in camo and become instant Hunters, then invade the smaller communities with there friends, if they don't have a hunting lease, they trespass on your land. When you catch them red-handed with wire cutters after they have cut your fence and unloaded there dogs and four wheelers onto your property, they say it was a mistake that they had gotten the wrong directions from a friend. The Bastards never offer to pay for the damage ether. This Year I have a surprise for them, I'm posting all Hunters with or without dogs who trespass on u-tube! |

1 I do not agree with a ban on dog hunting. I think it should be like hogs. Dogs should be considered a nuissence animal, and shot on sight. There also should be no season on them. I think you should get points for how many dogs you kill, and those points go toward deer or duck season, and allow you an unlimited bag limit. |

dogs dont make it easier you dummy. any body can set in a tree nd kill a deer. |

1 If The GOV. owns the deer and other WILDLIFE and are so ready to have someone if they violate a wildlife law, why don't they pay to have your car fixed when a deer runs into the road or eats your veggie garden |
