Is the Geneva Convention standards still open?
Can someone in the know educate me on this?
So called "terrorists" are being tortured in CIA prisons.
I am an American Patriot, my dad was a POW in Vietnam. I thank God every day he is still with me!
I just want to see detainees treated fairly until their trial and said outcome. If not, we will become a Nation not much better than Hitler Germany or Stalin Russia.
Just my opinion.

There is a difference between torturing innocent people because they exist (what Hitler did to the Jews) and doing it to enemy combatants captured on the battlefield in order to prevent future attacks against our civilian population.

Try selling your propaganda to someone who doesn't know the difference between Nazi Germany and post 911 America.

Water boarding gives the person receiving this treatment the sensation that they are drowning. However, they are not. They just fear they are. This fear leads to their providing valuable information - information that can save lives. Water boarding makes the recipient very uncomfortable, but it is not torture. It is an effective form of interrogation that makes one feel death is imminent. It would be great if it did not have to be used, but to save lives it becomes necessary. This country is at war. War kills people and breaks things. Killing, destruction, and interrogation are necessary in a war. Sally, I am sorry that you do not comprehend the seriousness of this country's present situation and its need to protect its citizens, both military and non-military.

Why don't you volunteer for "waterboarding" then and prove my argument wrong.
Besides that, everyone knows Bush and the Jews were responsible for 911. Show me the plane that hit the Pentagon. You cannot!

I don't know about the Jews and Bush causing 911, but bingo, Sally, on your assessment of torture. We torture Islamic "terrorists," and we're no better than the countries we battle against. Torture should not be acceptable under any circumstances.

"Besides everyone knows Bush and the Jews were responsible for 911." Wrong! Not everyone. I did not know that. Thanks for the enlightenment. Again, the purpose in water boarding is to give the sensation that one is going to die in order that they reveal valuable information. I do not have to eexperience it to know that it must be very unpleasant. If you were making the decisions and could prevent the killing of innocent persons, including children, would you authorize water boarding? Be honest now. Remember these criminals can avoid water boarding by simply giving up information. I do not know if the wreckage at the Pentagon can be proven to be a plane or not. However, how about the other three crashes that morning? How do you explain them? How did Bush and the Jews pull that off? It must have involved hundreds, maybe thousands, of persons. Why have none spoken up - unless, sure, they have been executed or hidden away somewhere. I am curious about your opinions on this.

Like those tortured during the Inquisition could avoid torture by simply confessing their sins as an infidel and converting to Christianity? Or those under trial during the Witch Trials could prove their innocence by sinking after they were drowned?

That's the problem with torture. It doesn't give reliable information. I'd admit to a whole lot of stuff if I was being tortured at the time.

Thel: There is a deference between torture and water boarding. From your well written statements I can see that you know that comparing our countries efforts to extract information from terrorist by water boarding to the torture of the Inquisition and Witch Trials is a poor argument. I agree that torturing does sometimes give unreliable information, but apparently water boarding has provided valuable information. I would still welcome hearing your opinions on the issues I raised in my post above. By the way I was born in Louisiana, but have travelled throughout the world, lived in several other states and countries. Would you be so kind as to tell us your country of birth?

I am a natural-born American citizen. I happen to have dual citizenship between here and Germany, however.

Now, as to torture... I suppose it depends on your definition of torture. I don't personally see much difference between psychological and physical torture. Waterboarding is just that - psychological torture.

You are a total bloomin', liberal, hate monger idiot.

People like you give liberals a bad name. There has never been any proof to your allegations, but volumes of proof that radical Muslims did the job. Get a life and realize the truth.

I don't agree. I think we need to use any means necessary to keep the United States citizens free and the people safe..I think we play oh, too sweet to the enemy..and they know it..I think when they kill us, we should retaliate in the same way. When 911 happened, we should have sent a plane to their land and wiped them out. Then we would not have to worry about them doing the same thing again. Sorry, that is just my opinion..You can all write back and tell me how stupid and crazy I am...Think back to the old days. You stole a horse, they hung you. Was we not safer in the old days..I rest my case...Today, you kill somebody (not a horse) you will be out on the streets again to do it again in a few years...oh, but I forget..it is acording to how bad and how much you torture them first..Is you just kill, then it aint so bad but if you plan it and torture them first then you might spend the rest of your life in jail watching t.v. with somebody serving you meals and all you gotta do is go out and exercise and get a law degree while you are waiting to die...lol...because as we all know "you got rights"....

I feel a lot safer now than I would have in "the old days," actually. Vigilante justice didn't work back then. A lot of innocent people were hanged for stealing horses, as you put it. And that's not even factoring in if you are a black man.

Thanks for a laugh today CITIZEN,funny.

Sally's a little crazy even for the left, don't ya think? Bush and Jews? Hey Sally..... if a dem gets in you'll see a bit of Stalin's Russia. Ca. wont let parents homeschool their own children now? It's only a hint of what's to come.

As far as waterboarding, if it's going to stop a terrorist from harming my grandchildren or anyone else in this country I don't care what they do. These people don't play by any rules. By "treated fairly" you mean as they do us? Pulling a dead naked soldier down the street after doing God knows what to him or chopping someones head off. I mean really... chopping a head off! And our country is barbaric? Let's see, water up your nose(us) or having your head cut off or strapping a bomb to a child(them)....yes that makes us alike doesn't it?

By the way... they do waterboarding in certain military training, but I'm sure you're fine with that. Don't hurt the poor guy who would slit your throat, but the soldier protecting your sorry a** is fair game.

Thel, the fact that you say "we are no better than Islamic terrorist" speaks volumes!!!! So you don't know about Bush and "Jews" as far as 9-11?(And you having dual citizenship in Germany,go figure.) Really? You think they caused 911? Wow... if this is your feelings why would you not stay in Germany permanently?

... uh, I was saying I DON'T know anything about Bush and the Jews causing 911. Pay attention, dear, before you lob insults at someone.

If you're implying anti-Semitism, think again. My best friend is Jewish, and I don't recall ever having a problem with him or anyone else for their religious beliefs.

Thanks for the laugh, though.
