Somebody please explain to me why it is o.k. for black people to use the N word but not whites. Did anyone watch The View this morning? You can see the tape online at Usmagazine.com . They are trying to explain why it is o.k. for Jesse Jackson to use the word because he is black but whites like Imus or others cannot say that word or any other racial slurs. I really am curious as to why this is. The word should not be used by anyone. But blacks have such a double standard. Please someone explain this to me and let me know your views on the subject.

Amy, There is no logical explanation. After reading the story on foxnews.com today, I now that Fox News omitted this from the original video they released. Why? I do not know. I believe Squid has always said it best: it is simply a double standard and I for one am sick and tired of it. Now, the way I see it, if Jesse Jackson can say it so can everyone else. Hi Nwords.

Thank you for your thought. I guess I just feel that if someone calls me a cracker or honkey, I don't care...that doesn't offend me at all. I never hear the mexicans complaining if anyone calls them a racial slur. I just want to know is it only the blacks?

Well, I'm tired of being held accountable for something I did not even do...what gives someone the right to hold something over someone's head and tell them can't say this word or that word. HISTORY? Well I didn't know my ancestors and you didn't know yours so why in the HELL are we still talking about this? WHY IS IT SO OFFENSIVE? WHY SOME PEOPLE GET TO CALL OTHER PEOPLE NAMES AND SOME DO NOT. It's a word- not a knife or gun...it's just ignorance...pure and simple... Look, I'm not asking a whole generation of people to "forget" about history but to stop holding THIS generation accountable for EVERY LITTLE THING that happens...it's just ridiculous.

the fact is that black to black its ok, but white to black is considered a racial slur, explained by human resources lawyer. so if a white says it, it is considered discrimination and a firing offence. not fair, but the law.

That's not the law. There is no law about using that word. That's insane! It's called freedom of speech. Not that I use that word. I don't and I'm not racist. So if Jesse Jackson calls a white person a cracker, should we be offended by that? Would he finally get in trouble for that?

Blacks were just allowed to vote about 40yrs ago. That is not that long ago. many people that were alive then are still alive and the wounds of that time run deep. Look at incidents like the recent arrest of Josh Brolin in Shreveport. Do you think it was reasonable that the officers called Jeffery Wright, "the black guy" in the group, a "N" while tasing and pepperspraying him into submission? What was the reason for that? couldnt just arrest him? Had to make racial slurs? Just face it, most White people will never understand the N-word issue. Just drop it from your vocabulary. Is it really that difficult to stop saying?

I DON'T USE RACIAL SLURS SO WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO? Why is it OK? I wasn't alive at that time but I'm alive now and those words that are spit at me are hurtful and run deep. So does it make it ok? I have to pay for something I was not apart of because the color of my skin? It has to stop somewhere... And for the record...Josh Brolin and Jeffery Wright had there nose where it didn't belong. If the cop did call him a slur it isn't right...but they were there to arrest another rowdy patron and they intervened because it was a guy working on the movie...am I wrong?

As soon as they stop using it themselves.

hey why dont you all look in the webster dic. and get the true meaning of the word and move on . for the black community is always looking for somethink to complain about, no matter what it is and have as much rights as all of us if not more than the white community and others, for the laws have been changed to their better ment and will never be saticfied no matter what this country does and far as the view and woop she should be so ashmed for even using the word in the first place , but its ok for the black community to use it listen to their music its makes me sick and we have to listen to the nasty mess they call music now thats desremination on the rest of the world .

I have a good question. Who cares? I mean really. Do you have a strong unfulfilled desire to say that word and you can't? Then you are a racist and I think you should go die. Didn't your mom tell you that two wrongs don't make a right? Why can black people say it and you can't? BECAUSE YOU FREAKIN' CAN'T! Get over it. And if you must know, it's because the "N word" (my god, the sheer ridiculousness of the fact that we call it that is astounding) carries significant baggage stemming from the most disgusting thing ever allowed to happen on American soil. In a way that the word "cracker" or "whitey" or whatever word you want to whine about being called can NEVER hold. In short, get over it and grow up. It's not an appropriate word to in reference to anyone, so don't say it, teach your kids not to say it and maybe, just maybe it will go away someday.

one of my black coworkers asked why are black beans called frijole negros and white beans called great northern? he said didn't they get the memo or was there a paper jam? we of course work in a diversified enviroment. my son has black friends and brings them to the house, they even like my cooking. there are good and bad on both sides black and white. I do get aggrivated at times with some people, but do not blame their color just some peoples attitudes, black or white. we all need an attitude adjustment!

If the words "cracker, and honky" or anything else like that isn't complained about, then don't complain about anything I say! I am getting really sick and tired of all this! You would think all the problems of blacks are caused by white people. Think of it this way. Would you rather be over in Africa? Last time I checked that wasn't a good place to live. I don't agree with slavery, I think it was mistake, but it happened a long time ago. As you said, GET OVER IT!

You all don't understand the magnitude of what happened. The NAACP recently had a funeral for the N word. But now, the "good" Rev. Jackson has performed a miracle, a "resurrection"; the N word is alive and wee thanks to Rev Jackson and his miracle. And to think that the Rev has been one of the strongest voices against the N word. And yet they wonder why? For you morons who don't get it, this writing is nothing more than satire. But if you are offended by it, then I have done my job.
