I went to Walmart on Wednesday of this week and there were no eggs, hardly any meat. No hamburger at all. They were things in the paper products that were not available. So, I left and returned on Thursday only to find that it was even worse then. Still no eggs, no meat, limited paper products, etc. I also went with my daughter Friday night. Still the same. What is the deal here?

They don't know how to order or restock anything, thats the problem.. Maybe they have a high turnover and the people just don't care, I was in there earlier and there was alot of things I needed and the shelf was empty, ( of alot of things).. I think it all sums up to poor ordering on the part of the store.

They are scrambling to stock the shelves before Ike comes this way. Evacuees are still up this way staying with friends/relatives. Many still have no power down there. Wal-Mart employees are stresed to the max. Can you imagine them workin their butts off and inventory comin up? Cut em some slack.:)

I read on here where evacuees were given $200.00 for groceries from the damn govt. and also when they return to their homes they will be give $'s to re-stock their frig. and freezer from losses.
I believe that if they were on food stamps that could increase their limit by $200.00. Someone else told me this that worked at WalMart. They also said that the evacuees wrecked the store.

I know that everyone who was on food stamps received double the amount they normally get because Louisiana was placed in a state of emergency. I wonder how much that cost the people who are working to pay for them to eat.

Wal-mart operates a pos replenishment system.Which means you have a certain point where the system orders the item. It's based on the on-hands(how many you have on hand)the rate of sale(how many sold during a period of time)It's a great system if managed right. The flaw I always found in the system is when something like the hurricane. You might have an item like a 5 gallon gas can that you might sell 1-2 a week all of the sudden you sell 50 in a day it takes to the system not only at the store but also at the warehouse to catch up to it.The ware house system works the same way it works just like the store. You can't keep tons of every item onhand all the time, imagine the size of the building you would have to have.Perisable goods are a little different, you can place manual orders but there again it does take time for the system and the warehouse to keep up with massive orders. The Natchitches store pulls from a warehouse in south Louisiana that was closed down during the storm so that added to the problem of getting freight to that distribution center and to the store. That is much of the problem with consumables their out of.Now with all that said theres still a huge human factor involved also.Your onhands and your counts have to be correct 100% of the time for the system to order correct numbers. But because of different reasons one major reason is theft. If you have a count of 10 on something and the rate of sell is 1-2 a week the system will not order it untill it gets down to like 3-4 depending on the lead time it takes the warehouse to get it in.But if someone steals 5-6 of the item it will never re-order it untill the counts are fixed and with that many items it's impossible to fix every item every day.It does work I have been in stores that had very little theft and top notch dept. managers who have very few outs ever.Hope I helped.

Oh one more thing alot of those items that just sit there and move very slow all the time untill they blow out for whatever reason were not put on whats called feature tracking quess what? In a few weeks when the system catches up BOOM it's re-ordered and the rate of sell you did during that time and you have a back room of non selling crap to deal with...lololol been there done that.
Watch these items and you will see what I'm talking about. The week school lets out for the summer you will see the cereal isle just about empty for a few weeks because kids are home in the morning and cereal sells explode.
Can soups will do the same thing, when you get your first cold snap everyone buys up soup and again it takes the system to catch up.it's not that hard it just takes alot of time and follow up and counting.

I hate Wal-mart, but they didn't have trucks because the city told every grocery store in town that we were predicted to be without power for 12 hours. Wal-mart accordingly along with the grocer I work at canceled trucks. We got our trucks on route as soon as we found we had power. Wal-mart did not they ended up with a truck on friday. We got slammed until then.
