Because one of Obama's platforms was "gun control" -- GASP!!! And since most people think gun control means "I will never be able to buy a gun again, so I am gonna rush out and spend my kid's Christmas money on a 3 brand new guns, just in case" What a crock! He wants to stop putting guns in convicts, drug addicts, and murderer's hands. He wants these little gun shows to start running background checks and he wants it to be harder to get a AK-47 than just walking in a pawn shop and getting it. Hey, I have no problem with hunting and having a gun for protection, I do have a problem with John Q. Unstable just being able to by a machine gun just for the hell of it. I mean, who needs those big ass guns? People who want to make trouble.

Those laws are already in place. There are plenty of laws on the books that say who can and cannot have guns. Obama wants to redefine the catagory of guns, making certain ones off limits. It's taking tiny bites out of your freedom.

witchy woman, your post is fraught with inaccuracies. Background checks are already mandatory at gunshows and have been since the Brady Bill became law years ago. As for wanting to "stop putting guns in convicts, drug addicts, and murderers hands", how many of these do you think buy their guns from stores? Laws have long been in place to keep this element from obtaining firearms and they are working. Gun crime rates fell to the lowest rates in 40 years after President Bush lifted the assault-weapons ban that Clinton had imposed. Therefore, there is no viable argument here. Also, "machine guns" are categorized as those having a select fire feature which makes them fully automatic. These are restricted to military and certain law enforcement use and are not available in any pawn shop or gun shop in the nation. Those that look cosmetically like these weapons are far from being "big ass guns". They are predominately .223 caliber, shooting a 55gr or 62gr bullet, far inferior to most popular deer rifle calibers. When you further your research, you will be qualified to comment on issues of gun control. There is no factual evidence to substantiate your defense of the indefensible. President-Elect Obama has a proven history, with real documentation, both written and audio, of wanting to greatly restrict firearm ownership rights of law-abiding Americans. Are there some extremist nut-jobs out there with militant tendencies? Absolutely. But the bulk of them are simply law-abiding citizens exercising the rights guaranteed them by the Second Amendment. Their fears regarding increased restrictions and huge excise taxes are well-founded. Please don't stereotype those who care enough to be informed and react accordingly.

When guns are outlawed I'll be an outlaw.

Would you rather have some criminals with a few guns or would you like them to sit around making bombs?

I don't trust anything hussein obama and his clones say. We will see a tighting of gun laws. It always happens when the bleeding heart dems get in office.
You will also see a decline in action movies and will have more Good Times inspired movies. Somehow I just don't see samual jackson playing the part of Jefferson.

Contrary to your post, just the facts, machine guns, fully automatic, are available to anyone that possesses a Federal Firearms License. The machine guns are available in pawn shops, gun shops, on line gun shops and on the street if you have the funds.

Gun shows DO run background checks. I take it you have never bought a gun?
And why do you think the criminals will obey the law and not get guns?? If they are criminals, they don't worry about the laws. Some people enjoy guns just for the sport of shooting.

That's a half truth. A dealer with an FFL is completely different than an average citizen. The NFA of 1934 requires local LE approval of owning FA and SF firearms and a $200 transfer tax. The Gun Control Act of '68 stopped the import of FA and SF weapons into the U.S. for the civilian market. And in '86 federal law banned the private ownership of FA and SF firearms. Basically it's possible to own a FA firearm but only those that were in the U.S. before 1986. With the scarcity of those grandfathered firearms you can expect to pay thousands of dollars on top of the transfer tax, local approval, and the multitude of hoops the BATFE has set up for you before you can actually own a FA firearm. Even on the street or black market you will be paying unbelievable prices. Yeah, I can go into Academy and buy a machine gun... give me a break.

Most of the disdain for firearms stems from ignorance. When you see an AK-47 or M-16 style firearm on the news you think it's FA and you believe whatever the reporter says despite misinformation. Truth is the overwhelming majority of "assault rifles" you see or hear about being used in crimes are SEMI-AUTOMATIC, ONE TRIGGER PULL = ONE SHOT. The only instance I know of in which FA firearms were used in the commission of a crime was in North Hollywood in 1997 and those firearms were illegally converted, and by that fact just conversions and not truly FA.

Just the real facts.

True, NC, Stalin said, "I will bury you so gently you won't even know you're dead." We give up bits of freedom in exchange for security one emotional law at a time. Then we wake up and are surprised at the control the government has over us. Never realizing that WE gave it to them.
Most laws are created from emotion. After Columbine, schools outlawed wearing 'duster' type coats. After any big tradegy, we rush to make laws thinking we can prevent the next one. We end up with unintended consequences.

Your right there so many people don't know, how some of the rights that we take for granted everyday are being slowly taken away. Censorship is become a large problem on every level.

According to the Brady Law, Background checks are only run if you are purchasing from a federally licensed dealer. If you purchase from an individual from a private collection at a show, no background check is done.
In fact, Islamic Terrorists have been known to shop for weapons at gun shows in the United States. The Virginia Tech killings were done by guns purchased at gun shows as well. It is estimated that 25% of all sales of guns at shows are done by individuals and not dealers. An extra background check won't kill anyone and may save some lives.

What I find really amusing is all of you Republicans suddenly are so worried about individual liberties. When W as at 90% approval in the polls so many of you were ready to sell out the Constitution and the liberties granted there in, or is it that the Second Amendment the only Amendment that counts?

Islamic terrorists have shopped for guns at gun shows? Why didn't they buy them? Apparently they didn't use them, or else it was never documented. Virginia Tech guns bought at gun shows? COMPLETELY FALSE!! All guns used were bought legally from licensed dealers and Seung-Hui Cho passed the background checks in each case and waited the mandatory 30 days between purchases in Virginia. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seung-Hui_Cho . This is one of those ultra-RARE cases where legally-purchased firearms were used in the commission of a heinous crime. The father of one of the victims at VT adamantly defends individual gun ownership rights, as well as the right-to-carry by staff and students of universities. Such measures ALWAYS result in fewer crimes; do your research. As far as background checks only being required by federally-licensed dealers, you are correct. But, guess what? Joe Blow can't set up a table at a gunshow and sell his personal collection! He must broker them through a federally-licensed dealer!! You, like many others, accept political rhetoric and media bias as facts without doing your own research. Please cease to misinform others with your grossly inaccurate ramblings.
