quoted text
SO.......I assume $8 -$10.00 an hour is NOT acceptable for our people around here. They had rather hang out drawing welfare checks....sitting on their butts moaning about Mexicans that WILL WORK TO SUPPORT THEIR FAMILY. Just for the record the mexican children that are enrolled in our school system have far exceeded the white and blacks and they started with the disadvantage of not being able to speak english. What does this tell you? Both of their parents are working and yet instead of partying the night away and ball gaming themselves to death. These parents go home after work, eat with their children and work with them on their homework. There are NO outside activities for these children ......they are motivated to LEARN. Food for thought huh??
Enlighten yourself. These mexicans who "work for their families" are sending all those dollars made in AMERICA are sending that money back to Mexico who actually gets the benefit of the influx of $$$$ into their economy.
Obviously you've not done your homework.

You can't get people in this town to work. They want jobs but they want to start at the top of the pay scale with no experence. They are not willing to learn, show up on time, or put in the effort it takes to keep a job.
I'm not saying hire illegals I am saying hire legals that want to come work.
We are not replacing people that work with their backs outside in the elements. They all want to sit inside and work at nothing all day. I guess that's alright but we need people that know how to build things, repair things, get dirt under their fingernails. You can't pay 15 dollars an hour for somebody that you have to go drive to pick up, buy them sodas, buy their dinner, take them home and when payday comes and they call in sick, they say bring me my check so I can go to town. At least with the mexicans you know where they are, they will work all day, they don't work for cheap but they are willing to learn if they don't already know what they're doing.
How many of you out there with kids hire somebody to cut your grass?
You are completely right. I mean no disrespect to anyone on here, but you do not understand unless you are a business owner. We have someone that has worked with us going on 5 years now; the mexicans we HAD worked harder in one day then he would in a full week. They regularly wanted to work weekends and all the overtime they could get; but not the white guys. Yes, their wages are not the cheapest, but it has been my experience that they are very much worth it.

I too see a lot of Espanics working in the area. How does one tell the difference in those who are in this country illegally and those who are here with legitimate work permits?
You can't tell the difference. by the way, if you think you can, or if you think the police have the right; it's called racial profiling......

Our locals might work harder if the $8-10 an hour which girlygirl mentioned were not the norm around here. Jobs with college degree requirements sometimes pay $10 an hour around here, and that's pathetic. I couldn't pay my rent and all my bills and still have enough left over to buy groceries on that.

Most people call it living on a budget and $10 an hour is more than enough to make ends meet when entertainment and other frivolous expenses aren't at the top of your list of priorities.

The reason illegals have gained such a foot hold in our country is to many Americans want to start half-way up the ladder of success and, like you, feel that $10 an hour is beneath them.

A wage is something you earn, not something you deserve.

I

I have none working for me but I wish I could find one that needed work. The hard part is those that want to work are working. Unlike everybody else that says they want to work. They dont show up.

Again you want to know what's wrong with people today and work ethics? I'll ask it again.

How many of you with kids hire somebody to mow your lawn?

It that was too hard for you.

How many of you with kids wash your own dishes after you finish dinner? That includes cleaning off the table, putting the dishes in the dishwasher.

Since we're talking about illegal aliens, I have a question. Have any of you been down south lately? Everywhere you look, there's a mexican in a car/truck towing a car/truck. A while back I saw a school bus towing a delivery truck with another delivery truck inside it....and they NEVER get stopped! If I'd try something like that I'd get the book thrown at me. What's up with this? Where are they going and what are they doing?

lol, that's exactly what I was thinking! I've never seen anything like it...and going down I49 right past police officers and were never stopped. The smaller truck was actually hanging out the back of the other one. I was amazed and tried not to stare but couldn't help it.

My take on this is; We have Immigration Laws. They should be enforced. Illegals should ALL be rounded up and deported, and the business owners that hire them should be arrested, fined and in some cases a little jail time. All this Bi-Lingual crap needs to stop. If you can't speak English, learn it. I don't need my tax money going to put up signs that I can't read. When I go to Home Depot or Lowes I should be treated just like the Mexicans are.
Bottom line, they are in America. Learn our language, leave their flag at home, become a citizen, or go home!

Read down to the very bottom

THE FOLLOWING IMMIGRATION LAWS ARE PROPOSED...

1 There will be no special bilingual programs in the schools.
**********
2. All ballots will be in this nation's language.
**********
3.. All government business will be conducted in our language.
**********
4. Non-residents will NOT have the right to vote no matter how long they are here.
**********
5. Non-citizens will NEVER be able to hold political office.
**********
6 Foreigners will not be a burden to the taxpayers. No welfare, no food stamps, no health care, or other government assistance programs. Any burden will be deported.
**********
7. Foreigners can invest in this country, but it must be an amount at least equal to 40,000 times the daily minimum wage.
**********
8. If foreigners come here and buy land... options will be restricted. Certain parcels including waterfront property are reserved for citizens naturally born into this country.
**********
9. Foreigners may have no protests; no demonstrations, no waving of a foreign flag, no political organizing, no bad-mouthing our president or his policies. These will lead to deportation.
**********
10. If you do come to this country illegally, you will be actively hunted &, when caught, sent to jail until your deportation can be arranged. All assets will be taken from you..
**********

Harsh, you say?.......

The above laws are current immigration laws of MEXICO

When are we going to wake up?

girlygirl, even if they are working, they are here breaking the law, and anybody that hires them are breaking the law.
You want to talk about getting a grip? If hire them you are a criminal. Plain and simple. Look at the laws Arizona and Oklahoma and Rhode Island have passed. American citizens are getting tired of footing the bill for them.

Oklahoma has passed laws regarding immigration, but the local and state authorities do not have the funds nor the manpower to enforce such laws. It's a Federal matter, and until the Federal government does something about it not much will happen. I am from Oklahoma and our immigration laws are some of the most strict, but again, on the State and city levels they do not have the manpower or funds to enforce such laws. Doesn't make it right, but you can *itch about it all you want, but this has been going on for years. The Federal government needs to do something.

I agree with you totally! I was just proud to see some states trying to do something.

Mexican nationals residing in Lafayette will soon have access to an identification card that will allow them the chance to open bank accounts and apply for other services. Officials with the Mexican consulate based in Houston are coming to Lafayette to assist the growing Mexican population in the area by offering matricula consular cards, a Mexican government-issued form of identification that can serve as official ID in lieu of U.S.-issued ID, said Adhemir Olguin, press officer for the Consulate General of Mexico.

The cards have come under fire in some states across the country, where some say they are giving illegal immigrants a way to gain access to services that should be reserved for citizens.

Olguin said Mexicans who can provide a valid proof of identification, proof of address and a birth certificate can be issued a matricula card, even if they are in the United States illegally.
