Okay....I am a little peeved. My family ate at mama's oyster bar over the weekend and I was shocked at how expensive it was. One thing that ticks me off is that they automatically fix you a jumbo margarita (8.00 dollars)instead of telling you they have 2 sizes. Without going into much detail about what we ordered (I am sure they would figure me out)...2 adults, 1 child's menu, normal dinners, salads and 1 8.00 margarita was over 80 bucks. I eat there as a business person during the week and I am always shocked to see the amount of college kids that are allowed to eat of the kid's menu. My co-workers and I had a long conversation about how the employees are stealing the ower blind...once the waitresses would bring the "kids menu" lunches to the college kids they were heaping high with food. Even their side salads were huge! I understand gas prices have went up, cost of food and all that garbage...but no free salad??? That is a common fare even in Natchitoches. Next time I will take my 80 bucks somewhere else.

I agree with Yo Mamma. For the quality of the food it is extremely over priced. I've tried it twice. The service was good and the atmosphere was good, but the seafood is better at Captain Ds.

Problem with Captain D's is it will cost you 40-50 bucks in gas to get there.

Papa's does a good to great steak. Hell, they are expensive everywhere so I can't put that on them. Hamburger and sandwiches above average and appertisers are pretty good. I've found the seafood OK. Way better than Captain D's, sorry u2bc, but in no way something that the Mariner would put out. Papa's and Mama's does great business because of location, cold beer, location, good whiskey, location, a couple of hot waitresses and location. It is the place of choice of a couple of local groups that help fill it up on Friday and Saturday nights and anytime something is going on downtown, many flock in there (location).

I must agree with you on Papa's steak. Best in town and expensive but worth every penny. I will take sea and sirloin over mama's for seafood.

Are you kidding me? Mama's is not at all expensive! Obviously you don't eat out much. Their prices are very common and reasonable. Get over it.

Yeah, it's expensive but it's worth it. I know some places may have better seafood but not in Natchitoches. Eating there is a rare treat and I know to expect a big bill before I go.

It is expensive. The steaks are not all that. They are cheap cuts sold for expensive cuts. They soad them in some crap that kills the taste of the meat.
I only eat the bbq shrimp. I don't care if they sell anything else. You can't get bbq shrimp anywhere else in Natchitoches Parish.

Here's one for you all, I "heard" the owner here does NOT support our NCHS Chiefs, so thats why he doesnt support the "N" card. He says he is devoted to ST Mary's, but yet we, "Chiefs Supporters" support his place of Business. Any truth to this?

Just cuz you don't have the money to eat there, don't knock the place. You get what you pay for...

And if it is, they have the best steaks I have ever eaten in my life..I LOVE their steaks. I would take a Papa's steak over any steak in Natchitoches. They are BIG, TASTY, and so worth the 25.00 you pay for them...I don't care what you say...I am not in the upper class of Natchitoches but I do splurge on a steak now and then and when I do, I go to Papa's...right next door to Mama's...Yeah, they good, yep, they are....

Damned, you must have ate the highest thing on the menu..2 adults/50.00, one child/10.00/ one drink/8.00, total 68.00 plus tax and tip, yeah, that is about 80.00... Well, I tell you what, I got 2 dinners at the new Kentucky Fried Chicken place, which included 3 piece chicken dinner with slaw and potatoes, a 2 piece dinner with slaw and potatoes and it was over 14.00...so I guess everybody is high these days..I think our president needs to get off his duff and do something about gas prices before we all have to quit work and stay home and draw a welfare check...It's getting cheaper NOT to work..I think some people figured that out long ago but I am just starting to read between the lines..lol...

Thats right Jen...If you don't have the money, then don't go...you know it is expensive before you go...And yes, you could drive to captain D's in Alexandria (if that is what you like, which I don't) but then you are going to spend way more on gas than you would have eating right here in good old Natchitoches...Nowdays, you gotta figure the cost of that tank of gas into your little out of town adventures..It's a shame, but going out of town for "anything" is going to be a treat from now on..If you have not been on front street in a while you might be suprised in what you can find there..go take a little stroll and see what's there before you drive to Alex. or Shrev. For that matter, there are a lot of new shops in Natchitoches. Not just on front street...Our little town has a lot to offer these days...I am proud to live here..

Hey, don't feel bad, I waited in the long line at KFC to order a 12 piece for my family's dinner and it was over 30.00 bucks! Turns out they were sold out of dark meat so they just charged me for all white without asking me if I still wanted the 12 piece. Not trying to knock the place, they just opened and were extremely busy.

You get what you pay for... For your information, I can afford to eat at Mama's anytime I want, but I can spend the same money or even less money and get better quality food other places. Besides, it's my money and my taste so I will go where I feel I am getting the most and the best for my hard earned dollars, and that is not Mama's.
