A toast to the memory of Dr. Wilhelmenia Wise.
Dr. Charles Edd Cook, Dr. Joseph Thomas, and Dr. James V. Kaufman. Dr. Lynn Brouliette.

Natchitoches Parish lost five great physicians
and friends.

My family and I miss going to this doctor at 110 College Avenue. Dr. Cook was special to all in my family. I think of the stories he would share with us and how much he appreciated his patients. Didn't matter if we were black or white we were all the same. Most of the time he'd treat us for free. You don't find that anymore.

Add another doctor to the list above and that was my doctor Dr. Robert Siils. He worked hard to keep us all well and cared for us all no matter what time of the night.

Yes I miss these old doctors too. I can tell you all what a good neighbor Dr. Charlie Cook was to us. Our old neighborhood has changed a lot but we still have good memories. Our doc would come have coffee and bring us a flu shot. Just sit down like regular folk talk and eat with us. That was special.

I enjoyed working with all of these great doctors that no longer are seen in the halls at NRMC. Working with them was an experience I will always cherish. I can say I had the best of times
being a nurse. No matter what are when if we called one of them they were there for their patients. It took special persons to be a spouse of one of these great characters. God bless them and their families that still live in Natchitoches.

These were the greatest doctors to work with.
Aways willing to lend a helping hand and didn't treat us like second class. There should be a movie about them and all their grand stories and lives.

Yep great doctors. now you could die waiting on a doctor to help you in this town.
I can't count the times I met DR Charlie Cook on the street and he ask me how I feel. He would say you look like you don't feel well, come here and let me check. standing on the sidewalk somewhere I would be examined and he would write me a Rx and tell me to check back with him in a few days.
He always called those of us he delivered his babies. 55 years old and I was his baby to anybody he met.

Don't forget Dr. Worsley, she was a wonderful doctor. Remember when doctors made house calls? Sad things have changed so much.

Dr. Charlie delivered me too Zee, and both my children as well.

I remember visiting someone in the hospital once and he was there doing rounds and I wasn't feeling so good and he examined my thoat and gave me a prescription right there in the hall. lol He didn't say, well come to my office tomorrow and I'll fix you up, he did it right then. He cared about you.

I remember when I did go to his office and I always felt relieved when I heard his voice coming down the hall to the examination room, knowing I was fixing to get help. That deep voice of his...haha it always made me happy.

I miss him greatly.

And Zee...its been a long time!

We moved to Natchitoches in 1956 and Dr. Charlie Cook was our doctor from then on. Though he is gone he will never be forgotten.

I worked with these wonderful doctors in ICU for years. Dr.Charlie was so kind. And Dr.Sills was an angel. They were great. Caring, up all hours sitting with patients, worrying about their patients.
Believe me, you don't see that now. These doctors now don't give the nurses any respect, and some don't seem to care about their patients. There are a couple who do, and one or two who still stay up all night with their critical patients.
But, most of them can be extremely rude and arrogant.
Some of the current doctors scream at you if you call them at night when the patient is having problems, then they scream at you the next day if you didn't call them! Most of them should never have gone to medical school.

We haven't lost him and based on his continued work on his personal physical conditioning, he'll probably outlive all of us but Dr. Archie Breazeale deserves a shout out for the excellent work he does in our community. Without his hard work and committment, a bunch of people would be without quality medical care.

He is a true hero of this town.

Was Dr. Cook related to Cele Cook, the Real Estate Lady?

I rented a big house out @ Tall Pines Trailer Park back in 1970 whilst attending NSU. There were 6 of us guys living there.

Dr. Pierson, he was our family doctor. He delivered me many years ago at our home. He was in a car accident and he passed away then. He was very generous and kind to our family.

Hey LPP!! Maybe you'll have a BETTER bedside manner than you had at the Brookshires! lol

I'm sure you'll learn and do great, and people will tell stories about you for years to come.

Take care and keep up the good work.
