My dad works there and that rumor has been going around since IP bought them out. He does say though that it wouldn't suprise him if they did shut it down.
I have to wonder though if they have those plans why would they still be paying for all of the construction what is still going on?

The person I talked with yesterday said it would not be a permanent sut down. It will be for about two weeks. There will be a lay off of certain employees also. This goes along with a complete shut down of several mills across the country.

My spouse in an employee with International Paper in Campti and the information passed along to the employees on friday was that the number two paper machine was going down from November 22 to December 1st due to the economy. The future shut downs or the number of employees to be laid off are uncertain but that the supervisors were working hard to keep those employees with no vacation time left, working while the ones who have vacation will get paid on through. I am praying for all of them my spouse included..There are too many people that can be affected by this.

I work at the mill in campti, this is a summary of what we have been told so far. The number 1 machine is going down for 9 days. The supervisors are NOT trying to make sure that the employees who dont have vacation time are working. They are only keeping 1 employee on the # 1 machine, and he is the most senior man. Those of us who do have vacation time can take it, but if you dont tough. This is just a sign of our times. There are several mills around the country that do this every month. Hopefully we will not be one that does it all of the time.

Thank you louisiana_woman for your prayers..The trickle effect is almost more than my family can stand..you see, my husband left Boise for the economy issues and has just made his probation period at the paper mill..our family almost went under due to the rise in gas prices and then the cut in hours and it seems like de ja vu all over..He does not have vacation time to receive a paycheck during the shut down and it has been scary holidays for my family and I hope no other families have to endure this kind of worry..but I give it to God in faith we will be fine..

He finally left because they kept shutting down for weeks at a time and made the employees take a paycut ~ around 12%. This process has been going on in Bastrop for 2 years. It sound like the same thing is starting at the Campti mill ~ a long and stressful process ahead. My prayers are with the employees.

Yes, there is a lay off in progress, about 50 employees are receiving a 9 day lay off..but laying off hasn't happened just in one mill or plant, it has also been Pilgrims Pride, Alliance, Martco, Boise, Trus Joist or I level, and now International paper. It is a real shame that it hits hourly employees who HAVE to count on this job for income. It hits home very hard around the holidays..

International Paper in Bastrop has closed and will probably not open back up. I hate it for those 550 employees, such a terrible time to lose their jobs. However, maybe the orders that the Bastrop mill had can come to the Campti mill and save that mill.

LOUISIANA WOMAN- the last time i checked Gdo is not the way we spell GOD GET A LIFE I don't think that was very nice and I think she has a life. My goodness one word spelled wrong and your going to tell her to get a life. Why not be nice? Louisiana Woman I am sure was in a hurry. None of us are perfect.Life is too short to be telling someone to get a life. I am getting old and I pray everyday I make it to the next day. I have a life and that is my family. ME TOO you have a nice day.
