Public support has turned for us to the point that practically a full half of all citizens not only support gay rights, but even gay marriage. Among the other half, you'd be hard-pressed to find many that think gays aren't honest, hard-working and tax-paying citizens, and even fewer think we deserve the kind of treatment that the KKK are known for doling out.

Cognitive dissonance (correct spelling) is the inability, or refusal, to learn new information that might not agree with your previous teachings or stereotypes. You can't (or won't) try to learn anything outside of your stereotypical prejudices. Your entire post screams COGNITIVE DISSONANCE. Why not just say that homosexuality grosses you out instead of making things up? That would, at least, be honest.
