Let him rot in prison the way his own government lets people rot in theirs. Any American arrested in a foreign country should be given the most severe and strict punishment, including the death penalty as often as possible. Let the USA citizen pay for the government's zeal and maybe the USA citizen will begin to WAKE UP.

He has Japanese citizenship. So this case is like a country arresting and judging its own national for what he has done within its own territory. The ex-wife and kids are also Japanese. Basically, there's no room for diplomacy to step in. (He seems to keep his US citizenship as well, though this is illegal under Japanese law because the country doesn't allow dual citizenship. But when a person with dual citizenship commits a crime in one of the countries he/she is a citizen of, the other country doesn't step in.)

The 2 previous comments miss the point and bigger picture here.

The main issues are:
-Japan’s family law is a joke and what law they do have is not enforced (no contempt of court). Japan’s judiciary maintain status quo (abductor keeps the children) and are rewarded/promoted by how many cases are cleared from the dockets. Japan’s courts are bias and discriminate against foreigners & fathers.
-The US Department of State has an intrinsic conflict of interest. Their roll in diplomacy conflicts with their roll as an enforcer of abducted US Citizen children. This is further acerbated by economic interest with Japan as trading partner. Most US Judges, family court services and many attorney’s are not properly educated about international child abduction.
-Japan is blatantly violating the Universal Declaration of Human Rights of December 10, 1948 and the US Department of State is negligent in holding Japan accountable.
-The US has no exit controls,(turning over passports does not work).

Putting these issues together turn our abducted children into pawns. Mr. Savoie had the guts to take a stand in his case, bringing these issues into the public eye. The governments & courts of both countries have immensely failed our children!

This nonsense needs to stop now! Christopher Savoie you are a hero to every child abducted to Japan, every left behind parent, grandparent, relative of friend of an abducted child.

What can the public do about it? Representative Chris Smith, NJ has stepped up and has taken the lead role. I urge you to support his efforts and write your respective Senators and Representatives to support or co-sponsor:

HR 3240
Representative Smith’s legislation
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd...
&
HR 3240
Representative Rush Holt, NJ
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/bill.xpd...

Please help spread the word! If our government(s) will not act now the people will revolt with an economic boycott of Japan. Then they will listen.

Sincerely,

Brett Weed

Watch this video of a Canadian Case then reconsider your comment.
