The problem is that you're cursed, but if you give me money, I can fix it for you.

I was a victim of this type of crime. The thief "tarot reader" was Sheila White from Chicago. She works out of her condo in downtown Chicago. She looks italian or middle-eastern. Be careful with them.

I had my first reading for a birthday gift, and she told me that i was cursed, then she told be it would be about 2000.00 for her help. And i told her for that kind of money i would keep the curse. Not 20yrs later i never seen any signs of that curse i had.

Sounds like religion to me. Ever notice how the pastor always tell you that you are cursed and that your children are cursed unless you give him money.
Selling false hope has given many people a 'career.'

Know what? The people who believed they were cursed only because a stranger told them they were are pretty stupid to begin with. And to pay THOUSANDS of dollars to have the curse removed, you are not just pretty stupid you are really f'n stupid. Serves you right.

What in the world

Are you kidding me with this? If you are stupid enough to believe you are "cursed" from a tarot card reader you deserve to have every penny taken from you if you so wish to spend your money on such silliness....

Yes Good Grief.
Sounds like religious discrimination to me.
Having a preacher tell me if I don't tithe I'm going to burn in Hell for the rest of eternity sounds much worse than what the card readers did.

In this day and age people are STILL falling for the old "you are cursed" ruse. Wow. Kind of like the untrustworthy contractor who says you need all the windows replaced in your house and only he can do it. The got taken...so boo hoo!

As Archie Bunker once said, "isn't there a law against taking advantage of the simple minded? Because if there isn't, there oughta be".
The only thing that will stick here is the fraudulent ID felony.
These bunko artists (and when was the last time you heard that term?) should have just declared themselves a religion, like Scientology. Then they could commit all the crimes they want and the government would help them, tax free.

I agree with what you say but the story said they were "charged with felony possession of fraudulent identification, while Tracy Tan was charged with eight felony counts, including theft, forgery and possession of fraudulent ID" which to me doesn’t sound like religious discrimination.

Wonder if they saw that in the cards!

I bet they indict them on more counts. A felony charge is pretty hard to comeby with some states attorneys. Plus, A judge would not set a bond at almost a million dollars if they didn't do something pretty serious. The police had search warrants also. There is something more to this

Why were they settling for giving Tarot readings? Isn't convincing rubes "I'm the only one who can fix this mess, but I need all your money" how people get elected President?
Come to think of it, Scientology works on the same principles also. Hideous amounts of money for "counseling" sessions.
So obviously the Tans' ideas weren't the problem; they just thought too small.

They should have told the victims they had enturbulated thetans instead, and offered to "clear" them with patented "e-meters".
The government has been ignoring that particular flavour of fraud - and even lettings its perpetrators dodge paying tax on their takings - for decades.
