And you are partially right. Many addicts self-medicate when they have actual mental illnesses. They are not aware of the choice they are making.
Is it possible that the mental illness was caused by the deliberate choice to take illegal drugs? I am asking this because I once made a choice to try cocaine and ended up using it for two years. My behavior changed, I lost friends and family. However, I made a new choice and went cold turkey with no outside help. I made a mistake, and corrected it because I WANTED to. Addicts have to WANT to quit, and no amount of help will do the trick as long as they get sympathy for a self induced illness.

Sorry, but no, there is nobody else. It all depends on her. SHE has to want the help. there are NA meetings all over the place, but nobody is going to drag her there. If she had stayed in jail instead of being bailed out, she would probably be begging for help. Whoever posted bond was an idiot.
she's not out where did you get that?

In my opinion I think it's pretty sad for anyone to do those type of things to themselves ANYWHERE. Wether it be in the streets, grocery stores, Wal-Mart, or your own home...it's sad. These people need rehab and prayer!

2 stepsons, both IQ's around upper 70's, lower 80's-the youngest had been on meds from 5-17, when he was old enough to make his own choice to stop prescriptions. I do not think either one had a clue what they were getting into.

While I agree that in the case of children on prescription medication, they are not responsible for those choices until later in life. If they chose to stop taking the medication it may not have been a good choice, but it is better than making a choice to do illegal drugs. For people who may be mentally challenged and easily influenced, I believe they do deserve help. For adults with no record of mental illness or dysfunction, I do not.

I remember reading a NatGeo article on the legal drug trade in the Netherlands. They had a few paragraphs and pictures of heroin addicts. Their eyes were totally empty - really dead men walking. The drug takes them over completely and they are just existing until their next fix.
I'm no saint, but thank the good Lord He protected me from getting involved in stuff like this. I've done my share of drinking in my younger days, and I'll confess I'm addicted to chocolate, but that's it. If the beer and liquor industry was waiting on me, they'd go broke in a month.
And I'm a Harley biker.

IGNORANT..That's my response to the comments about drug addicts like this woman being secluded on an island and forbidden to reproduce. Only by the grace of God is she not your mother or sister, or YOU! And who's to say it won't be tomorrow?!Instead of judging this woman, you need to first understand addiction and secondly, take a good long look in the mirror. If you haven't walked in her shoes, there is no need to pass judgements.
PS. Remember that you walk among recovering addicts daily, so watch what you say and who you say it to..This woman may hold a position higher than you one day!!

Every time an attempt to clean up the beach is started the same people that oppose it begin to bitch!! Ex Mayor McBride tried to clean up the beach and the locals and tourist thought he was crazy! However the cops are not taking any shit and will shoot your ass if you raise hell. Good for the cops!!!!!! Someday the damn yankees and jig a boos will be excluded from the beach and what once was a beautiful place will be heaven again!!!!

If this digusts you, or upsets you...go help an addict out, help them off of drug. If you won't, donate some money to a addiction free clinic or oragnization. It takes a communitiy to help
