Hey Beach Bum. The SUTA Tax is paid for by employers not individuals. Also this area is very difficult place to find another "job" if you have a college degree and experience.
Not everybody is as lame as you. |

Getting a job around here is not as easy as you think. I've got a two year degree and 6 years of supervisory surveying experience, and I couldn't buy a job in that field right now. Yeah, you could go to work a lot of places(mcdonalds, wal- mart etc) for 7.50 per hour, but that don't cover my bills.
If you want to be in that field you obviously have to move to another area - like millions of people do every year. If you don't want to move, then develop other skills. Duh. Quit looking to the 'government' to solve your problems. They have a shitty track record. |

I guess there is always Time Share sales or working in a restaurant. Maybe we should move to Columbia.

There are time where good people find themselves in bad situations. Unemployment is not borne by taxpayer dollars, rather from employers, as someone already noted.
That said, my wife has been out of work for several weeks now. Resumes sent out several times per week, applications, etc.. no luck. There are a LOT of folks out there competing for jobs right now and it's just not easy to find something in a given career field. Those who note moving as an option... that would be great, assuming one could sell their home right now, pick up and just change everything about their life. Unfortunately, for most, it's just not that simple. |

Sorry for your situation and all those in a similar plight. 6% unemployment is traditonally low, but even if only 1 person is in need of a job it is 1 position too many. You are correct- lots of $7.50 jobs around. People with education and ambition are always more plentiful here than positions available. This is a tourist area is touted as a good thing. Never knew of a 1 industry area to prosper forever. Look at Detroit, residents never thought the auto industry would be hurting. Areas with diverse economies are thriving all over the US. When people get excited over 3000 $7.50 -$10 per hour jobs it indicates an area in decline. Especially an enterprise that has been researched by the best (Disney) and found to be without merit. What will those 3000 do in 5 years when HR becomes a vacant lot? No one can live on that- forget about raising a family, especially with no benefits. Wonder WHY crime is so high here? Answers are abundant, mostly the powers that be find that acceptable. They do not want to diversify industry as wages would rise. Low wages pay less than crime. No parent is going to allow their children to go hungry or without medications. Greenville, Anderson, Charlotte are not in the position of Horry. The state, county, and local governments have prostituted the beach and she is getting old. I wish you the absolute best. |
