If we pull bikers' welcome mat, where does it stop?

I agree with you. As far as Mytle Beach goes, I only come during Harley Week unless there is something special I need to do over there. I would prefer to go to Mt. Pleasant to shop, its much nicer. My husband and I ride a Harley but the only time we take it to Myrtle Beach is during Harley Week. I hope that if you do away with Bike Week, Myrtle Beach goes broke because I think its a tourist trap.

Now aren't you just the nicest person God ever put on earth! I believe the residents of MB want you to go to Mt. Pleasant also. Once again the attitude shown by the Bike Week participants is selfish, self-centered, and mean. No surprise there.

Hey Ann you ditz , on behalf of all the citizens of MB ... please do us a favor and head south every time you walk out your front door. Your husband didn't marry you for your brains thats for sure. |

>>>....One resident said the tax wouldn't actually cost the citizens much; but if you open that door, those nickel and dimes could grow exponentially. What prevents the city from raising the tax higher and higher in the years to come? History has proven that once a tax has been implemented, it is not rescinded. Even if the bikers are all gone, are we still going be paying this tax? I don't know, I may have missed some expert reasoning, but it seems fairly obvious that we don't need another tax.<<<<
If future taxation is one of your concerns, here's a thought. Next time the bikers roll into town I want you to pay attention to the revenue that the State is missing. Look at all those trailers that are carrying those bikers to our town. Look again, those trailers from our very own state do not have tags. Why are they getting a free ride on our highways? No wonder we have so much traffic. Those trailers are HUGE and when loaded weigh more than a small car. Even the smallest of cars has to be licensed and registered. Proof of insurance always has to be shown in order to get the tag, too. How many of you have been behind a trailer being pulled, that has no brake lights or turn signals? They need to be required to get a tag, pay their fair share of taxes that help to maintain the roads that they are riding on. |

My, My, NMBLADY & Local aren't you 2 of a kind..all that mrs wilson was trying to say was Mt Pleasant was a good place to go & then you 2 idiots jumped in and bashed her.. no matter what anyone says or post on here about anything concerning a bike " <Most All> of you around here as (locals') think you can & will post any disrespect post. Get real this is 2008 surely you know that anything can get overruled and usually does then reimplemented again after another get's in office. only my personal openion->.Bike week will stay! Oh & I might add if the council and such High Powered people around the myrtle beach area have so much pull & NOT scared of of the people who permote the BBW & the High & mighty of Atlantic Beach Why can't they Open up the grand strand ocean blvd thru "their" Property.? Now let someone explain why that's so sacared ..Oh I'm sure you will see someone post oh the Law suites would be to much for us. show them just like you are trying to show us biker's you own the council's around here.. I was just there this past july 4th week and where the awesome landmark Pavalion use to stand is a Discraceful grown up grass land just like across the street where the park use to be I suppose You 2 were in part who voted to do away with that also. why not hold a meeting there since the Ocean wind blows so freely through open land. My point is isn't there more important things in Myrtle Beach such as School drug problems, Gang's , everday killing's & robberys, highways & oh yea death by vehicles more important than collecting litterly Million's upon million's of dollars from 2 WBW.((actually 10 days). Now I didn't say BBW.

Can you read? I am quoting here:..."I hope Myrtle Beach goes broke because I think its a tourist trap." That is what we took offense to. Wow, do you talk in your sleep too?! Rambling on and on and said nothing! |

All you turkies out there complaining need to get a life and go to work. Do something more constructive than to sit on a computer and complain every minute. I have never seen so much hypocrisy in this part of the world. If you took care of your own backyard and leave everyone elses alone life would be a lot happier. Again, people have a right to go where they want to go. Who do you think you are, a bunch of idiots who want to raise taxes. Do you have a unlimited spending account. The government here are already robbing the people blind and you are too stupid to see it. If you don't like the noise move, I don't care if you are a local or a moved in northerner get a life. I read the paper every day and crime is being committed every day. Doesn't have anything to do with bikers. You have taken GOD out of your lives and turned the devil loose what do you expect. Read your BIBLE you will see it fullfilling by the minute. Excuse me I don't believe many of you know GOD personally if you did you would love your brother not despitefuly hate or use him.

NMB Lady, you read "right". I do hope it goes under, it would serve Burroughs and Chapin right. They are destroying Myrtle Beach a little at a time. When they tore the pavilion down that was the last straw. How many trees do you see that are still standing? Not much forest left. Everything has to have a building of some sort on it. I have been going to Myrtle Beach for 6o years and what you see now in Myrtle Beach is nothing but a profit getter. Myrtle Beach was at one time beautiful. So if you take offense to what I have said, its ok, because I don't care what you think.

finally someone with common sense.

Yeah, all those run down motels, crack houses, broken roads, shops from the 70s, and a huge old wooden roller coaster in the middle of the beach was so beautiful!!! I used to love to sit in line for hours to get on an old over priced roller coaster and stare at the hookers on Flagg St & 7th N! Bring back the good ol days!!! |

Where does it stop?? How about with anyone who travels in packs, going out of their way to make as much noise as possible and brings violence, drunkeness, and public nudity with thier gathering.
I belive the good people of MB and Horry County need to "comprimise" at the poll. The current office holders have had their chance and refuse to act. |

Doesn't Georgetown have its own newspaper and issues to worry about. Sorry if it offends you that busnesses in this area seek to make a profit. |
YES, They should pay, but I see locates pulling trailer every day without tags. They has material from Lowes, Home Depot, etc. So, why single out just the bikers? If South Carolina, would have kept the Video machines, they could have used the tax money to improve our roads, but no the Christian voted it out. Now we have bad roads and no money to fix them. |

If the HD rally attracts 300,000 bikers and they each spend $100 here, that is 30 million dollars. That's right 30 million dollars. Many bikers spend 1000 dollars while they are here. So this total money could be 100 million dollars or more all told. Is Myrtle Beach so stupid to give up 30 to 100 million dollars to forsake the bikers. To do that in this economy is absolute blatant stupidy. Do the math!

To the people griping about the extra taxes, it amounts to a grand total of 4 dollars and some change per YEAR. iF YOU CAN'T AFFORD THAT YOU NEED TO SHUT UP AND MOVE SOMEWHERE ELSE ANYWAY.

Please see the bigger vision of Myrtle Beach. For too long Myrtle Beach has catered to a downscale type of tourism. There is only so much land that has Beachfront property. The 30 year plan for Myrtle Beach is underway and events such as this need to be cast aside.

Ann Wilson thinks MB is a tourist trap. wow, it's amazing that the universe doesn't fold over on itself with brain power like that operating under the stratosphere.
Harley week is just talked about being ended because it's lumped in with the bike week that actually causes problems. I guess to be fair (since we all know the world is fair), if you end the bad one, you have to end the good one too. |

Hey folks, give a biker a break. I have been coming to bike week for the last 4 years. I also purchased a home in MB 4 years ago, my friends that come to bike week drop tons of money in local resturants, shops, and yes even bars. Being only a part time resident for now the county has in there wisdom raised the taxes on my home to over $1300.00 per year. Not a bad gig for them in that I am only there 20 days a year, and have no kids in the school system. It would not be a good thing for you to bite the hands that feed all the service workers. All we/they want to do is have a good time and go back to their homes with fond memories.

thank you, finally a foward thinking opinion. bike week used to be a minor nuisance, but the "rally " industry has promoted it to the tipping point. jeez does it need to get any bigger, is one month enough? i don't see wilmington, charleston, etc. stepping up to the plate. also critics must consider the "rock and a hard place" that the NAACP has created. sometimes you have to amputate the hand to save the arm. also i believe bike week was really soft this year, i think the economy eliminated a lot of those luxury bike payments as real estate and building have dried up nationwide. |
