did the public know that cops can lie to you during question just to get a response. They can make up facts that are not true during questioning, and say evidence that doesn't exist. Where is the moral law? Moral and ethical law states thou shalt not lie, steal etc... So how can cops do this while we the people are expected to be at this higher standard than those who enforce it????????

You have got ot be kidding me. Do you think that police take a suspect into an interview room and the suspect says, "yup. You got me. I did it." No. They don't. The police will use false information to see what the response is. Believe me, you don't want to go to court looking for "moral law." The theory is, when presented with this evidence, or lack thereof, an innocent person will still claim their innocence and tell the officer that it isn't possible. Then, the officer knows that they quite possibly have the wrong person. A guilty person, when presented with this "fake evidence" is more likely to confess. With that confession will come corroborating evidence, that actually is true and does actually match the crime. This way, the cops know they have the right person because typically only the person that committed the crime will know about this additional evidence. That begs the question...what happens if an innocent person admits to a crime because the police told them that evidence exists that doesn't? For one, if nothing else in the person's statement matches the other evidence of the crime, they're going to know they got a false confession. If not, when the person is brought to court, the confession can be challenged on the grounds that the only thing connecting the confession/suspect to the crime is false information. Few people realize that whats said in a confession still has to match the evidence, otherwise its no good. If that weren't true, I could admit to killing Kennedy tomorrow and be locked up for it, even though he died before I was born. Then there is the question of voluntariness...but who cares. I hope I've made my point. Lying is a great interrogation tool.

FYI- It's not "moral and ethical law" that states thou shall not lie, etc. That would be the BIBLE. |
