I bought a lifetime membership a few years ago and had my monthly dues automatically deducted from my checking account. I haven't been there in a few months but my mom and stepfather go there regularly. The other day, my stepfather went there and said many of the machines were gone. The staff said there was a new owner and they were going to put in new equipment. Today when he went there, the place was locked up and looked to be out of business. There were people from Fitness 19 soliciting in front of the locked up gym. Does anybody know what's going on? Are they actually out of business or just changing owners?

They are out of business! They were crooks to begin with. You should sue them in Small Claims Court. I was a member of that gym from the first day it opened. It changed owners at least 4 times in the last 8 years. They never cleaned the equipment and they turned off the air conditioner in the summer. That is when I had enough and left.
Good Luck.

yep...it's in the Californian today. They said that members can go to the Powerhouse gym in Murrieta to work out. What a joke! Gas at almost $4 a gallon and they have to drive from South Temecula to Murrieta! OUTRAGEOUS!!

I'm outraged at the closure of the gym and I don't get mad easy. They made their final auto debits two days prior to closing then, without any prior notice at all, closed the doors. I didn't know there was another Power House Gym in Temecula so I couldn't have anticipated that they would continue to charge me another two months for a membership I can't use . They say that, since there is another gym within a 15 mile radius, my membership is still valid. This would be valid if they had given any kind of a notice they were closing. I found out on channel 27 news a week after they closed. What kind of a shoddy business notifies their membership that they have closed through the TV news?

There is a big scam going on that needs a class-action suit. Powerhouse closed in Temecula, they are claiming that after auto debiting your account for the Murrieta gym they have the right to do this as it is within 15 miles. I looked at my original contract and there is no such stipulation. They are trying to send you to collections if you don't automatically change, plus the Murrieta gym is not open 24 hours so it is not a like gym. Any attorney out there want to take this one? I would never go with this company as 24 hour fitness in Temecula is better and Fitness 19 is cheaper. They are debiting many peoples accounts that don't even know it is happening.

Its horrible the way Powerhouse is handling the customers they ran out on. I called to cancel my membership and I had to give a 30 day written notice to stop payments to a gym that abrubtly closed its doors over night??? So yep...I actually had to pay for another month AFTER they closed their doors.

They claim that they lost my Email from May and a FAX from June requesting my membership be stopped. I finally sent them a registered letter on 6.23.08 which they acknowledged today they received. I spent another two hours at the post office for this. But now they tell me my last payment will be July of 2008. Three months after they closed their doors. I complained and the telephone person said, "you have to follow procedures." I asked, "what kind of procedure is it to close your doors without any warning then keep charging me for a service I can't use? You expect for me to give 30 days notice, which I did three times, but you don't give one days notice? I heard about the closing on channel 27 news. This is a scam" Anyone signing up for Powerhouse gym Murrietta should run away now!!! Go anywhere else. I would join in on a class action suit. Any takers?
