Kids (and they are still kids, despite their age) do stupid things. Yes, they should be punished, but 'throwing the book' at them is overkill. Give tehm a couple of nights in jail to teach them a lesson, then give them a lot of community service.

I agree with Patty. I have a 17 year old and they just don't stop and think of the consequences of their actions. It was a very stupid mistake and it will have serious repercussions for their future. There but for the grace of God .....

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE! Where you hit with the stupid stick?!?!? These two boys were WRONG with what they did and they should pay for it, the judge today did what the parents are obviously doing at home, NOTHING! They should have enough common sense to know what they did was wrong. Yeah maybe it was a false threat, but what if it wasn't? What if there was a real bomb and your children went to that school? They need to be taught a lesson, and hopefully they will get a judge that will sock it to them, instead of feeling sympathy!

I say 50 lashes at the post. Kids need the capital punishment back.
Did you mean corporal punishment? The state does allow that. Ask the district why they don't use it. Let me remind everyone that recently a teacher drove a vehicle onto school property with a gun on the hood of the car. The gun was real, the bomb was not. I am not condoning what the boys did, but where is the zero tolerance for the teacher who did not lose her job? Does zero tolerance only apply to students??

you people really don't understand.
you have no idea what was going through the minds of these two.
they are my friends, i know them.
you are basing everything that you are saying by what you read in this article and it's ridiculous.
you have no idea what these two have been through, what they have faced.
i have pity on each and every one of you.
i'm sure that most of you have children and i bet you tell them to never judge people, "don't judge a book by it's cover"
and that is exactly what all of you are doing.
personally, i hope that they don't get in trouble at all.
they didn't do anything themselves, they told someone else to.
it's the person who actually called that should be going through all this, and not Tom and Von.
so to sum this all up,
this is ridiculous, you are ridiculous, i'm done.

These kids knew exactly what they were doing, it doesn't matter what they went through, maybe they should lay off of the pot ( source: Thomas Seith's myspace) and get a better judgement on life, what they did was wrong. And if this kind of stuff is going through their minds then maybe they should go see a doctor about it. And YES they did do something, they are the ones who told the person to call. It is called an accomplice. Wait till you get out of high school because from the sounds of it, you know nothing about real life. what they did is WRONG, or did your parents just teach you about judging a book by its cover?

I believe they both need to have the max sentance given as they caused alot of parents to worry needlessly about thier children. I have 2 daughters that go to school thier and I have seriously considered pulling them out and putting them in a private school. School prank? You can't tell me thier parents haven't taught them right from wrong and that they didn't know this was oh so wrong.

You obviously don't remember 911 or colenbine or recently virginia tech. I guess the masterminds behind that shouldn't be punished so we killed an innocent man when we hung Sadaam.

From what I understand that teacher has been suspended for the rest of the school year and will not be brought back next year.

Okay yes, I am Tom's best friend... and we've been friends since we were 13. He has been arrested once before (right after his father died) that hit Tom pretty hard and he went downhill from there. But he's a good person and and a good friend. I cant believe you guys are going this far is to saying "50 lashes with a whip" grow up people. And this whole "if he would lay off the pot" you're even going as far as to go to his myspace??? Tom hasent smoked anything since before August, 07. He's been on probation and gets drug tested every week. I know him better than anyone... and he, along with Von, are good people. they diserve another chance. What they did was very wrong, stupid, and careless. But no one deserves to go to prison for 1 to 10 years for a stupid prank, when they're only 17. Tom just turned 17.

Obviously Juvenille hall didn't help what makes you think a couple of night in jail will help. THAT IS HOW CAREER CRIMINALS ARE MADE!!!!! By slapping them on the wrist and setting them free . These kids terrorized a whole school as well as the parents of the students. THEY DESERVE THE MAX!!!!! Wake up already.

The mother states her son was "not" aware of what he was getting into. I find that hard to believe, is he oblivious to what is going on in the world around him and the many other school tragedies?!!!

Obviously you do not go to school there or are a parent of someone who does. Imagine if it was you getting the call about a bomb threat at your kids school. Maybe your the person they texted in the first place. You do live out of town and did call them your Bros. Hmm i am sure MBPD will look into that.

Matt.... I understand you are thier friend so you are wearing blinders. What they did was a terrorist act. It is a federal offense since 911 to call in a bomb threat to anywhere. My children go to that school. Put yourself in the place of all the parents of those kids that were terrorized by that bomb threat. My kids were scared to death and so was I and thier mother. I imagine the rest were as well. They are old eneough to know right from wrong and they knew this was wrong.

Well there people go believing what they read. I am guessing that you don't talk to these people, know them, whatever. Because if you did you would know that Tom hasn't touched drugs or anything for a long time, and Von has never smoked before. Why would he need to go to a doctor ? I'm sure that you have had something happen and you talked about it to a friend or a doctor, whatever you choose to go to, but the thoughts and feelings that related to it still linger. So pretty much, all of you people are selfish. I'm sure that you have made mistakes before yourselves. And how can you relate a phone call to 911, "Columbine", and Virginia Tech ? All of those deal with people much older then these two, and were real situations. A phone call does not relate at all. Okay, they may have gotten all of the parents panties in a bunch, but me, along with plenty of my other friends were excited to get out of school, and they even announced that we had a bomb threat. So how about you hear the facts?
