Excellent post. Said it before..there is not enough law to arrest them all. Not cost effective for any city to police such an event with these numbers. Picture yourself being put in this situation when you are totally outnumbered by criminal activity. How would you react ????

Good post and I think you men/women do that best you can given the circumstances. The private sector has grown so much faster than the infastructure in the city, it is difficult work for the police and emergency services. The last sentence though = "VOLUNTARILY" doesn't involve being paid to do a job.

Maybe Myrtle Beach shouldn't get rid of the Bikers, just get rid of those Dam Yankees living there.

Where is the love? All we have here is the bitching and moaning from both sides. As we all know, there is no members from the ABB. We can try to alienated both bikers and locals. There is bad apples in every group. If we tell one group not to come, where do we draw the line. All businesses are effected by different events. During all the sport tournaments, McDonalds and fast food thrive. during March, April, May, & October golf courses and strip clubs thrive. May and 1 week in October Bars make their proffit. Why should differnt places have to give up their right to proffit. The owner of the dog house is most effected since he is located in the city limits, should he be punished because of being a year long business that pays more taxes than any individual. Locals have rights also, Motorcycles should honor the locals rights. I believe most Harley Riders try to stay on the major roads and not torture the locals. In my 40+ years of coming to the beach, the only lewd acts i've seen was during senior week. Most of all the vulgarity of harley week is located at venues that must be entered, it's not on the street. As long as the Carolina Harleys association is sponsoring bie week, it will always be attended. So remember before you keep bickering and fighting, no one wins. lets love each other, even the new transplanted southerners. We are all one family of the south.

I'd like to hear your definition of a "Dam" Yankee. Could it be an American who chose to live wherever he or she wanted in this beautiful country. Or perhaps someone who found South Carolina so inviting, and moved here to enjoy all it has to offer. I am not a freeloader to this state. I moved here and pay my fair share in all the taxes, unlike some natives and imports who avoid them. Get a life.

I've lived here all of my life and at this point I'd rather keep the yankees. For the most part they behave, respect the laws and don't create havoc in the month of May unlike the bikers.

Until you live and reside in MB I don't think the residents really care what you think.

I am truly sorry… I didn’t mean to sound like I think the police are negligent in their duties. I merely meant to say there needs to be a more visible police presence. I know they must be stressed out during ABBW. I really admire the job they do. I feel MB does not have enough money to entice me to do the job of a police officer. As I’ve said before, I sympathize with the residents too. I just don’t think it’s as simple as sitting in your golden golf cart and wishing both rallies away and actually expecting it to happen. Anyway… good luck. I hope the baby doesn’t get thrown out with the bathwater.

LOW BLOW "SOLUTION"!! Even if this is a QUOTE from one of MB's FINEST! NO ONE means any disrespect towards the men and women that bravely protect us 24 hours around the clock! We know there are not enough of them out there even on the night before Christmas (oh, sorry if I offended you by saying that word).

The fact is you are in the MINORITY and you are a selfish complainer.

The "SOLUTION" is for you not to tie up Law Enforcement with your silly complaints so that Law Enforcement can take care of the REAL CHALLENGES that exist. Not only during Bike Week, but every other day as well.

LET'S NOT FORGET...You are the one that turns your sprinklers on to face the road and encourages your neighbors to do the same (I mean your lawyer...or was it your doctor)! I guess your just trying to p*ss off the highway department, HUH!

Still no return on the TAX increase you gave everyone in the city of MB!

Your just a typical ***hole!!!

It is all so simple. I think the average person who posts on here does not know all of this was started by CITY coucil of MB -- the city of MB does not include Surfside Beach, or Garden City or Murrells Inlet!

City of MB city limits extend basically from the old Air Force Base to the Dunes Club east of the inland waterway. MB city council should change the city-wide speed limit to 20 miles per hour. Change the city-wide noise ordinance to a decibal amount of a mosquito's buzz and give law enforcement the tools needed to stop anyone and everyone who just slightly steps out of line. Any bikers who ride through marked residential neighborhoods will be ticketed, etc.

All you law abiding bikers who want to have fun are more than welcome to visit anytime. All the thugs and hoodlums please take your business somewhere else, or have a nice stay in our city jail. We will thank you for the burden placed on our city jail and also for the fines paid to help us pay all of our police overtime.

So simple--and it needs to happen--and looks like it is well on its way to happening.

Thanks Mayor Rhodes.

<quoted text>1. SLED Suppression Teams on all major roads checking id,insur, open pipes...., no outdoor activities at bars, no Broadway, convention center, barefoot display/vendors, no bands outside, all activities at bars to be on the inside ONLY, new ordinances that prohibit bars from staying open after 11pm. All these wheels are turning right now....
All the things you just named could never happen because it would cause everyplace all year long the follow the same rules. People would go for an ordinance like that. In the state of South Carolina they don't distinguish between bars and restaurants so all restaurant would shut down at 11 pm. Serviing alcohol only indoors. Have to be throughout the state and voted in. So that wouldn't happen because there are plenty of events that take place outside. Broadway/Convention Center and Barefoot are just vendors and as we said before thats just something people do on the side and alot of locals are there filling up space with their kids. Bikers don't care about vendors. No bands outside after 11pm already, thats been an ordinance in Horry County forever. They would have to vote that in also. So that means no bands outside ever througout Horry County. No they can't just do it for certain dates. Then there would just be a law suit and the county doesn't want to have another one of those on their hands. As far as suppresion teams on major roads, well I would think all people have ID and insurance or they shouldn't be on the road anyways, and bikes without the baffles, what are they gonna do make them rev their engine up and then take appart the exhaust pipe for every bike that passes? NO Just cause a major traffic problem and is probably against the law to only pick out anyone driving a bike. Drunk Drivers? Drunks in cars kill people, drunks on bikes kill themselves. Let people do what they want. Nice try though. Anyone else have an answer for how they could possibly end bike week?

No, I don't think he is in the minority. Read the survey. Businesses do NOT feel that the rallies project a positive image for MB among other negative findings toward the rallies!

Is it necessary to use obscene language or is that the only way you can express yourself? I noticed that once the survey came out, and the results were NOT what the pro-rally crowd expected, the postings from the Pro people got nastier than ever.

Put it up for a vote in November! I bet you won't like those result either.

I bet you most are alcohol related, and I agree on the inattentive cagers..somedays I feel I am on an obstactle course. I have been tempted to go down for either the May or October event, but I may be "brand banned" (I ride a classic GL-1200 Gold Wing). My friend made the mistake of going down Main street in Laconia, NH (another HD event) in 95 heat with his Suzuki. A crowd of HD owners were spraying the non-HD bikes with water and when it hit his, it cracked both heads on his twin. I had to go get him and trailer him back.
The entire HD/Import bike thing makes me laugh and gets me angry at the same time. My bike was assembled by Americans in Ohio. Their HD bikes have more foriegn parts then they would like to admit..
You won't find much of that attitude here in MB. I have Harleys, Sport Bikes, and even a dual sport, and love them all. Heck, I get jealous when I'm riding in my cage and see somebody on a scooter. Come on down. The rally next May is going to be bigger than ever!

Am I wrong? 1st of all, I truly believe the HD rally people are going to show up in the spring,
probably more than ever, just to show MB they can. This rally issue is getting national coverage.
Now about the vendors. I keep reading about "TRAFFIC CONGESTION" It seems to me that the vendors provide something for the riders to do, if they are visiting vendors then they are not riding, by eliminating the vendors the riders will spend more time riding.
If I were me, and was looking for ways to help, I would be looking for MORE things for the riders to do (instead of less) this could help with the traffic, maybe
I ride to MB along with 6 other motorcycle friends every year (for many years) with wives in tow,(And the 14 of us spend a serious amount of money) and never yet to have an encounter with the police. The more things we have to do, the less time we spend riding in your fair city...
We will continue to be there for the spring HD rallies, even if there is not one vendor in Horry county....Riders don't follow the vendors,--The vendors follow the riders
We consider ourselves motorcycle riders not BIKERS, People that chose to drive a pickup truck are not called TRUCKERS or mini van drivers are not called VAN'ERS or SUV'ERS
OK, DONE

Some of the posts suggested adding more laws designed to run off the rally attendees--just what our overworked PD needs, silly details to keep them from being able to pay attention to important, relevant laws that might actually keep people safe. Another group sorely overlooked during the rallies are the firefighters and EMTS. I have several friends on the police force as well as fire department, and the general opinion from all is that the Harley rally attendees are cooperative, as a whole (you have idiots in any group), but getting through the crowds during Memorial Day rally is dangerous for the bikers as well as the emergency vehicles. The traffic changes on Ocean Blvd aren't really considered neccessary by many during Harley week, but due to the increased traffic of not only bikers but everybody any of them every knew coming along in their cars.....it's neccessary to be able to get emergency vehicles down Ocean Blvd during Mem. Day. And of course we can't discriminate and only use traffic changes when actually needed or the NAACP will start suing again.
