I completely agree. North use to be such a good school (the best out of the three I would say) but it is sad at how it just keeps going downhill and is way over crowded.

That is what happens when people want spending cuts, smaller government, and tax cuts. If the right wingers keep getting their way the only schools that would be left would be private schools that only the rich can afford. If voters want funding for schools then they need to stop electing people that want to gut them.

Those rich right wingers hiring that weight lifting coach instead of a classroom teacher. Something tells me you were probably smarter in the weight room than in the classroom.

I don't think a weight lifting coach in needed at a time that schools are being gutted but my post is addressing the overall spending cuts. Care to give any suggestions on how funding could be restored? Spending requires revenue and is in direct opposition with the budget slashing and tax cutting that conservatives are pushing. What would you have done? Something tells me you don't have any bright ideas and are only capable of complaining and childish insults.

To my knowledge there have been no state tax cuts within the last 5 years. The best way to increase revenue is get a job, and tax revenues will then increase. Less people are working today(equals less tax revenue) and more people are receiving government benefits (equals more expenses) than ever before. Until this trend is reversed expect more cuts.

I am soooooo sorry. I did not mean to say weight lifting coach. I should have have said teacher to keep your kids from being fat or physical education teacher.

Personally I have a job but many are having a hard time these days since corporations are setting up shop in other countries that have fewer labor laws so they can pay pitiful wages.

Quality at North has been going down hill for years. It's not just cuts, but some of dead wood needs to be cleaned out. Some of the faculty and staff have questionable character, and these are the people who spend a lot of time shaping and molding our children.

It sounds like we agree that our labor laws are forcing our jobs to other countries. Just wait for the new health care law to kick in on these companies and watch many more leave for other countries.

Its doesn't matter what I want, it's called competition to make a product at the lowest cost so that it can be sold to you at the cheapest price, which is what you as a consumer demands. Which way do you want it - lower wages and a job or zero wages?

Before free trade became all the rage, better wages and benefits built a strong middle class which is now going extinct.

Concerned parent wrote: I recently was told about North school letting 5 teachers go because of lack of funding yet putting over 35 kids in each class. That is over state regulation number of kids per class room. Yet at the same time they hired a 'weight lifting' coach at the high school & paying him a teachers salary. Where is the district priorities here? Very very sad. Also they let go more educated & experienced teachers & keep fresh 1st year teachers cause they don't cost as much. That is so wrong. Opinions? Sounds like a bunch of misinformation. Experienced teachers usually get tenure, which means fresh teachers would get let go first. Also as someone else said, they aren't allowed to go against state regulations.

If a decision like that were made, it would be district wide. If you don't have tenure, your contract is probably year to year.

There are 3 elementary schools. If they would make kids go to their own district it would be much better. People think East is nasty because the folk that have money ship their kids to southwest or North. It wouldn't be nasty if they would start sending their kids there. It is sad! North's classes are by far TOO BIG!

It's district wide. If teachers have been let go, it's across the board, not just at one school.

Also not just county people many using relatives adress to send kids to north instead of city school Why would anyone do this? 1) Murray City has top scores in state every year. 2) Murray City has to charge tuition to prevent too many county students from coming to Murray City. 3) Calloway has no tuition and students can go to county schools from city. 4) Murray City has a waiting list of county students wanting to attend city schools.

They're cutting teachers due to the fact that the principal doesn't want to give new teachers tenure is what I heard. Sad but true. I've also heard that the principal is such an overachiever that she puts "being on top" above what's good for the kids and puts MORE AMD MORE demands on her teachers to where they are all on the brink of break downs. That school is so overcrowded I wouldn't want my daughter going there. They need to build on if they're going to keep taking students. There are about 7 teachers, all over the age of 50 that need to move on. If all you are going to do it gossip and complain and hate on the new teachers with good fresh ideas then get OUT and let them take over. There is a special Ed teacher in general that I go to church with from North that is so bitter at the world and she takes it out on all of her fellow employees. She brings her personal woes into work and that's such a shame for her students as well as co-workers. Give you 3 guesses who it is-she's over 50 and special education teacher. And it's poor me, poor me, poor me. Nobody in the world has ever had Anything bad happen to them but her? But I digress-my daughter goes to a different school-I only have to see this woman on church days/nights and north elementary is gonna pop at the seams.
