Why does he let children who have no way of defending themselves, suffer soo much? I see stories on the news all the time and I just want to know what everyone thinks. And don't give me the answer that everything happens for a reason! What kind of a God would allow such things?? I just don't know if I believe anymore

The two answers I most commonly hear are "free will" and it's part of "God's plan" which are two things that contradict each other.

I myself am not convinced by the bible it's clearly stated things are written on our heart were made in his image and likening. In this day and time ppl ignore their conscience so much that it quits working!!

I don't believe in god. If you do, you have to face the fact that he allows suffering to happen. Bible thumpers will quote verses to justify millions of kids starving to death and being raped and murdered by warlords. At the end of the day, god has the power to stop it. He just chooses not to.

Send your paycheck over seas every week, or even to your local food pantry... For someone who's not a believer of God you sure put a lot in his hands! In all reality we are the only ones who can make peace/perfection here on earth.

In all reality we are the only ones who can make peace/perfection here on earth. So God can't do it? Sounds like his resume has some exaggerations in it then. I don't actually believe in him either but I do like to point out that the ones that do can't even remain consistent. But even beyond the inconsistencies so much else still doesn't make sense. How can people believe that a God created a universe that is 13.75 billion light years across containing 200 billion galaxies, each of which contains an average of more than 200 billion stars, just so he could have a personal relationship with then. Seems like a bit of overkill. Or when they talk about how he made this huge sacrifice of allowing his son to be tortured and murdered as if he didn't make up the rules of sin and what nulls it in the first place. Then we simply have the things like a human living in a whale or two of every species on earth fitting on one single boat. Did Noah take the time to drop off the marsupials in Australia, the Pandas in China, and every other species that is only native to certain continents in the right place? Of how about the fact that the fossil record and genetics are completely in line with evolution rather than creationism? What really kills me is when the real wackos claim the earth is only 6,000 years old even though the evidence shows that even the dinosaurs haven't been around for 65 million years. It's no wonder the rest of the developed world is leaving our science students in the dust.

Hmmmm wrote: <quoted text> This is exactly what I'm talking about, I just don't know what to believe anymore. All the evidence points to the contrary. Religion is still so popular because people are taught it at a very small age by people they trust and are told not to question it at all or they will be burned in hell by the God that loves them. The thing that keeps people in church is fear. It not a coincidence that people are much less likely to be believers the higher the level of education they have obtained. What sets out species apart is our brains. We need to start using them instead of relying on answers that people made up before they had the means to find out the truth. I'm not a scientist but I do spend time reading on biology, cosmology, astronomy, physics and other sciences. I have also always had a strong interest in philosophy as well. The more I learn the more convinced I am that I am right. Religious leaders do not want that. The only book they want people reading is The Bible but even then there are many parts they would like people to ignore since that are not all that flattering. That's why certain verses get more play and others are not as talked about.

Bad things happen to good people, children, animals and your grandma because all mankind is born into a sinful nature. It all began in the Garden of Eden. Of course if you're an atheist there is zero point to having this conversation.
But for those that are on the fence...
Consider this. If there were no "bad things" in the world, we would all become rediculously self-centered, self-serving individuals and society would collapse (think "spoiled rotten").
When bad things happen, it puts our entire lives and situation into perspective. Don't blame God... don't blame anyone. Fix yourself, serve others and set your eyes forward and this world would be a much better place.

Fix yourself, serve others and set your eyes forward and this world would be a much better place. But if God created existence then he could have made it differently. That is of course unless he wasn't capable of doing any better. Sounds like we are a poor creation after all. Then again many things about his creation seem flawed. For example, what’s going on with your appendix? It’s much better at killing you than it is at anything else. That’s definitely a stupid design. What about your pinky toenail? You can barely put nail polish on it; there’s no real estate there. how about bad breath, or the fact that you breathe and drink through the same hole in your body, causing some fraction of us to choke to death every year? And here’s my last one. Ready? Down there between our legs, it’s like an entertainment complex system in the middle of a sewage system. No I'm not a Christian but sometimes it necessary to play devil's advocate to show how flawed the logic is when it comes to how modern Christians think.

Tornados... they serve no purpose, except to kill and destroy... if I believed in God (which I don't) why would such a "loving God" create storms of this type. And don't tell me God didn't do it... the Bible say so... God created the Heavens and the Earth and all things in it, so whats with the tornado. I know the Christians will have an answer for this... they always do. Something like... we can't question what God does or God is testing our faith or God works in mysterious ways!!!! All of this is bull. Tornados are naturally occuring weather events, there is no God. If there were He sure fu#@%d things up and this example is just one of His screw-ups. There is no God, signed a happy atheist.

God only cares about your eternal soul, not your frail human body. Most people tend to overlook this fact: God does NOT serve YOU. There's also the fact that disease is an aberration. God is infallible. His creations are not. You want to know why cancer happens? The genes responsible for cell death become damaged and the cells experience unrestricted growth and abnormally long life. Where the body normally finds cells with a specific protein it knows it should belong. These cancer cells do as well. Otherwise the body's immune system would destroy them as a foreign body; this is why organ transplant patients often have to take immuno-suppressants to keep their bodies from rejecting the organs. People want to give God too much credit sometimes. More specifically, instead of worshipping Him they only want to point the finger at him. It's like God is irrelevant to many people until they feel they've been slighted or disappointed by Him.

I believe in God. I don't go overboard or attend church but still believe. It takes little or nothing out of my life to acknowledge a higher being. I would rather just believe and live a good long life than not believe and perish. If I die Nd nothing happens then oh well. But if I'm right I might get a second chance at something greater. All that for just believing.
