We don't have a large educated work force. Most that get a degree skip town. Why would anything other than low skilled jobs pop up?

A good thing would be for some companies to move into the industrial park out on 641N. It is just sitting there empty. The powers that be in Murray need to work on that. Not everyone wants to do factory work but it pays the bills & feeds the kids with hopefully some $$ left over for entertainment. It would help tremendously to get a business or 2 in there even if it is just a distribution center. The oay would be more than minimum wage.

Unfortunately these days companies expect special perks in exchange for opening a factory.

Paul, it's red and yellow, black and white. That song has never had blue children in it. I would think you would have known that!

We need some clothing stores and another sporting goods store. Women have more options than men here, but the local stores are very pricey for women.

I love driving by that new industrial park, with the sprinklers going, the grass freshly mowed and not one damn tenant in sight!

Murray's full of opportunities if you work hard. They aren't going to fall in your lap... it's what you make of your situation that counts.

Some people are just dumbasses. Murray has had one of the lowest unemployment numbers in the State for the last three years. And this is in the worst economy since 1929.
I think the Chamber does a great job trying to bring companies to Murray. Murray is a very nice small town. I suspect that most of the people bitching on this thread have personal agendas.

Improve the rail service here, raise the speed limit to 65 on KY 80, tax breaks, etc. They might come. Rail is more important than people think it is. No east/west/north rail is a killer.

I think this thread is stupid. Look around the region. Murray has done better than many other towns in the area. Distribution centers, really? I guess they can pass each other going across the bridges. This town has manufacturing and many are always hiring. Get off the couch send back your check and go get one of the available jobs.

BBB,
Go back to painting. 90% of Industry does not use rail and the ones who do wish they did not have to. It is slow and today's manufacturing requires speed for just in time delivery. How many industries in Murray use rail? One?
You sound like one of those rail tourism nutjobs.

Let me ask you, just how many thriving cities/towns with booming industry lack rail service? And how many industries in Murray use rail? Probably none considering the track goes in one direction. And I couldn't care less about rail tourism.

Vanderbilt is currently the only company that uses rail. Sometimes a fertilizer tanker is parked at the old depot for farmers but i haven't seen one there in a while.
