Do you think that a community should be informed if a convicted child rapist moves back into the community when he/she is paroled. They are required to register but, if they move in with someone nobody would ever know. A local who raped ,among other things, a 13 year old girl was allowed to plead to attempted rape and sodomy after telling police he had comitted the crime. Because he was a first time offender. Well it was the first time he was caught in all actuality. He served less than 6 years in prison and has now returned to cherokee county (Marble). He comitted the crime in murphy. While he comitted the crime against this young girl his own children were asleep in the next room. Revealed during this time was the fact he had actually comitted sodomy and molested another child from the time she was 2 years old. I have to say alledged but, there are papers where a judge agreed and ordered him to stay away from this child. The child just did not want to relive the horrible acts he had comitted against her so in fear opted to not go to court. I believe people have the right to know who is around their children. I personally, and it is only my opinion think that the local newspapers should be allowed to list weekly names of offenders moving in. I don't want to see anyone else live this nightmare. Please write your legislators and governor to keep child rapists in jail longer than 5 1/2 years. Take time to look up sex offenders in your area. You can find them on the internet.

Here is the bigger question...eventually they will get out..so how much money are you willing to pay in taxes to track them for the rest of their lifes? in addition, do they not have a right to resume their lifes once they serve their sentence?

what about the lives of their victims.they get a lot longer sentence than the abuser .I agree they can not stay in prison forever but, less than 5 years for rape of a child. that is not near enough. people get longer sentences for theft. and this is a repeat sex offender. there are many children, just one that he was tried for. if it was your child would you want to know? unfortunatley, I see the aftermath of what these perverts leave the victims to deal with. and it is money we have to pay to an extent. but, it is still cheaper than the expense to heal the children after they are abused. I spend my tax dollars paying for medicaid and food stamps to help people. some who truly need help and some that just don't want to work but, drive big new vehicles and have their nails done every week. I just feel it would be a warning to save some children from suffering. and I am sorry but, I do not worry as much about their rights to resume their lives as I do the children who have their young lives and innocence stolen from them.

oh i agree with u 5 years isnt nearly enough ..my main concern is with ur last statement..that you do not worry as much about their rights..just remember if we give up rights for one person or group we give it up for all..next year you may lose ur right to vote or drive a chevy and you cant complain..our justice system needs to be fair and keep emotions out of the picture

when it is your child involved tell me you can keep emotions out of it. and his rights. he gave up rights to be treated like a regular citizen when he became a child raping pervert. they sure did not take the rights of the victims into consideration. and a lot of the things called rights are priveledges such as having a drivers license you break the law you loose that right. I just think punishments should fit the crimes. If he had defrauded the IRS he would have gotten more of a sentence than he did for child rape.

Sam you are absolutely correct. Our children are far more important than the IRS getting their money. I think that all sexual offenders should be kept track of for the rest of their lives. It is a known fact that these type of offenders have a high rate of repeat offences. I would rather pay my taxes for keeping track of them than to pay for one more lopsided government bailout.

Mort let me add one for you. Mikal Snow Mitchell. He was just released after less than 6 years. The children he raped and molested live and were assaulted in murphy and he moved back there just 2 weeks ago after being released. And, Medic I am so glad to hear your views. You are so right. I have investigated this subject and, Many of the child rapists and molesters in prison for many years have said they are repeat offenders. They admitted they should stay in prison because if they were released they would again molest or rape children that it is an illness to them and they can't quit. It has also showed that most of these PEOPLE, and I use the term loosley, move on from just molestation and rape into more violent roles such as torture and murder. They often murder to keep their victim from telling. Again, I agree, I would rather spend money knowing where these perverts are. It is still cheaper than the medical bills we pay trying to help our children after they have been attacked. If the money is an issue for people maybe we should ask ourselves why do we put offenders in jail and than pay for them to get college degrees and cable t.v. I have to pay for my bills and am paying for my child to go to college. My only consulation is It may not be in my lifetime but, I am convinced that God will not look favorably on people who hurt his little children. I am sure in the end it is true we will all be judged. Again, just my opinion not trying to shove it down anyones throat. This is just a place to vent. I also have called the Murphy paper and others I believe every city or county should run a list of the sex offenders in the paper every week just like they run the arrests. We should have some warning. Knowledge is power. Just because they register doesn't mean they will obey. How far is it a stretch to think they won't follow parole rules. After all they had no problem raping children. Parole violation would be small potatos.

On your states sex offender registry it also list the home address of the men I listed. Like I said thats just in a 5 mile radius of town. And it should be everyone's business. In Atlanta some residents were concerned about a local extended stay hotel that was mostly occupied by convicted sex offenders, however, the local police explained that while thats was somewhat disturbing, when they needed to locate these guys at least they were all in one place, and the clerks on staff kept track of thier coming and going. Which worked out for all involved. I agree the papers should list who and where these cretins are. And if it cost me more tax dollars, so be it.

So if for some reason the government or whomever decides that people who steal pens at work need to be tracked you would have no problem with their names and home addys being posted? And if a vigillante takes it upon himself to track one down and kill them (aka the abortion dr murder) you are ok with that too? You need to keep emotion out of constitutional law..or it will come back and bite you or ur loved ones

Remember also if someone did use information you provided to aid them in commiting a violent crime against one on that list YOU could easily be held liable..not only in a criminal case but definitely in a civil suit..wouldnt that be ironic if the child molester you were trying to protect the neighborhood from ending up owning your house cause of what u did??

you are wrong dom it is public knowledge and they have been convicted at least in my case. It is public info. and how can you compare a child rapist to someone stealing pens? And nobody said anything about people tracking people down for murder. just that they should be monitored and sex offenders should get stiffer prison sentences.
you are a little off pace there. I have already spoke with a lawyer and am well informed of what I can and can not say. I have freedom of speech also and i have commited no crime tha is my right. It is all legal if someone does something to anyone it is their fault. The state posts the names and addresses. Again convicted not awaiting trial so it is not alledged. I can put that Mikal Mitchell was convicted, is a registered sex offender that spent less than 6 years in prison and got out and is back in Cherokee county. Nothing slanderous or untrue there and all public record.

What exactly did I do? I posted names from a PUBLIC website, PUBLIC knowledge. Anyone can look those names up, that's why the site exists.

What i am saying is IF someone posts a name and or addy with the intent of stirring public ridicule or violence you can be convicted in civil and crimminal court..it happened twice here..one man was asked to leave his post as an ordained minister for promoting violence..yes addy etc is public information, the caution comes in what you do with it..and pennies vs child abuse wasnt the point..point was that if you are willing to let one class of person lose their rights you are willing to let everyone lose their rights..its similar to religion..if u want to do away with islam because some members are prone to anti usa activities then u must be willing to do away with catholicism or baptists or anything esle

Dom I am not promoting violence nor, did I even bring anything like that up. I simply stated facts. I think you have gotten way off track of what we have said. There is no comparison in what you are saying. and in no way did I promote violence just the opposite I am opposed to horrific violent acts (such as child rape). And, I still believe that the punishment should fit the crime. If I comment that I do not like a certain care so somebody goes and destroys cars of that variety it doesn't make the act my fault. Bottom line you must have a different outlook on what the correct punishment for raping a child is. As I have stated , I am not saying I am right it is just my opinion that CHILD RAPE should be a crime that gets more than 5 1/2 yrs. in prison. I just do not think stealing pens is as serious would not put someone in prison for 5 years for that. That does not mean you are wrong just have a different opinion. And, believe me I have cleared everything with an atty. to make sure I do not say anything slanderous or personal about anyone and what my rights are to discuss this subject. I am not stirring anything just listing facts. People have the right to have info. You can look up any facts I have mentioned. They are all available in the Murphy courthouse and on the North Carolina sex offender web site. Nothing I have put on here is hear say, rumor, or confidential.

In the know please clarify that this was your personal opinion and I in no way influenced it or stirred any violent thoughts. Do not want Dom to say I stirred any violent thoughts. I am flattered that he thinks I could have that much control over people but, I really don't have that much power or influence over people. I am just a mother who loves her kids and wants them to be safe along with everyone elses children.

I am a victum of child molestation from age 8 to age 12 by "a family friend"
the problem I have is the sex offenders should be separated, the true child molesters from the statutory rape (a 19 yo male sleeps with a 15 or 16 yo).
Guys so often have there lives ruined by girl (whom often diguises her self as 18 etc). I am just saying the feelings I believe with the majority are different with the 2 so there should be separate registrations for the child molester vs the statutory rape sex offender.
