Cindy Beard wrote: <quoted text> Dialysis patients transports are covered by Medicare. You are right. To comment on your remark about the "years of expierence, and an eagle eye" is absolutely right. How then, can an EMT, with no expierence dealing with actual patients, is expected to use their judgement, and become the deciding factor, as weather or not, and regardless of, a legitimate statement of medical necessity, signed by a doctor, and often, limited access to the patients pertinent, vital medical records, supposed to, upon his observation, decide weather or not ambulance transportation is necessary? This seems to be a very important factor, that should be taken into consideration.

Insider Knowledge wrote: It has been very entertaining to watch people respond to a topic when given only half of the facts. It is only natural for people to want to defend those who they have depended on for so long to provide care for their friends and loved ones. This non-emergency ambulance service has been a part of this community for a very long time and they have provided a valuable service during that time. This case, however, deals with only a portion of their service though and that portion is fraudulent in the worst way. For those of you that want to justify ambulance transport based on a signed order by an MD, you are making the assumption that there IS a signed order. In this case, there often is no signed order, or, in some instances, the order has been forged. Hmmm... wonder how that changes some of your feelings about this "good 'ol boy small business owner". Providing ambulance transport to a qualified destination and falsifying the supporting documentation necessary to obtain Medicare payent is, and always will be, FRAUD. When the rest of this story becomes public for all to see, someone will go to prison. It won't be because the government didn't have anything better to do than pick on a small business. It will be because they are guilty of knowingly defrauding the government of a whole lot of the taxpayers money, plain and simple. You do sound pretty tough (FBI man!) and you make a great arguement, and sounds like a good George W. Bush speach. However, no matter if (assuming) they did allow pts to ride in the front seat, or take them to pick up food,.. The run WAS completed! The pt was safe, comfortable, and was in good hands the entire time. I would like to see 12 people in our community sentence these people to PRISON! At the very worst, maybe a fine! Ask yourself this question: Did the people that made the rash decision to allow the pt to ride in the front, actually benifit financialy? NO, the EMT's get an hourly wage no matter what! You talk a big bad game! But thank God you are just a pee-on FBI agent and you are not a judge! So go polish your badge and do some target pratice!

And 4 you Medic! You claim to have "seen" them transport pts in a car,... Why did you not do, what you are now saying the EMTs should have done, and talk to the Dr? Maybe because you are a suck-up and really have no evidence, nor friends or have acomplished anything with your life, so now you want to hate on thoes who have what you only wish for. Find a hobby!

It is evident that you are easy to anger, which tells me you have issues with not being able to control your emotions, and you seem to have a personal vendetta with MAS. My question is why? Since you dont mind slinging vicious remarks about them, why then wouldn't you mind sharing your reasons for doing so?

I am sorry for calling you a spineless dork with no friends or ambition. I should have never spoken to the GREAT and POWERFUL OZ! After all you DID work at a dialysis clinic. I hope you get the opportunity to be punished and persecuted by a government before you have a chance to even voice your side of the story or claim your innocence. And then have LOSERS like you get on here after hearing only half the story and talk like they know the whole thing. You really need a hug!

If we have only heard half the story why dont the owner of the company do a seperate interview and tell his side of the story. And yes i need a hug.

Do you think the owner just said lets start a company and pay people out of our pockets and not charge people we haul.

The EMT's get paid the same hourly wage, if they carry 1 pt or 6 pts, if they carry them on the stretcher or on the hood! The offence was made by EMT's that it did not benifit. If people are trying to be rip someone off, then the crime they commited woyuld have lined THEIR pockets!

Jason B Bour wrote: Sounds more like a he said, she said article, but I do have to side with the owner from what I read so far. If a doctor says a patient should ride in an ambulance, then they ride in an ambulance. EMT's cannot re-write doctor's orders, or go against them. The rate Medicare pay's is determined by Medicare, and is approved based on doctor's ordered. It sounds like they are caught in the middle. Now if the ambulance group does not agree witth the doctor's orders and refuse to transport then they get in trouble by the state for defying the orders, someone else makes the money on the fare, and they open themselves up for trouble. I don't disagree with the fact the doctor orders a BLS transport for dialysis; I disagree with the ambulance service for allowing a patient to ride in the front seat, instead of being strapped to a cot. Adding to that, the tech or driver allowing the person to go into a restaurant to pick up food should be fired immediately for letting it happen. If a patient can ride in the front seat of an ambulance, he or she does not need an ambulance, and the doctor should be reported as well.

STUPID. You very well may be retarded! Let me try again. The EMT's get paid the exact same amount per hour no matter how many runs they do or how many patients they carry. And yes they get paid by the company that gets paid from medicare, HOWEVER medicare is not the only insurance company that pays the company. If you notice the FBI claims that they only witnessed this happening a few times, and they have been watching this company since 2006. This company does upwards of 45-50 runs per day, so that means the EMT's don't know what pts are medicare pts and which ones are not, so it does not make sence for the EMT's to try and scam something that does not benifit them at all!.. It seems to me that you have your mind made up no matter what someone tell you, therfore you are either one of two things: 1.) A complete PRICK with disregard to logic. AND/OR 2.) Someone who (for some personal reason) just does not like these people. Whatever the case may be, and no matter what you think of me, the VAST majority of the people on this forum agree with me, and think that you are an idiot!(but you're probably used to that in life)

Also, It may help some of you to know that this company has been doing business with Medicare for over 30 years, and atleast 2 times a month medicare accidently overpays them and sends a request for the money to be reimbersed,.. And guess what these frauds do,... THEY PAY IT BACK! This has been going on like this for years. Sometimes they overpay and sometimes they are overpaid, and it is always made right. That does not sound like a bunch of crooks to me!

I am just hoping that the absolute truth comes to light in this matter, and that the government does not go on thinking that they can just punish people without giving them a chance to defend themselves. I apologize as well for some of my heated remarks. Peacemakers are what the world needs.
