I got a ticket for walking across the street in Glenwood. The village must be hurting for money. I can't even protest it...who they going to believe. Copes need to find something better to do.

If you're crossing a street at a point other than the crosswalk, or you cross diagonally, you're jay walking, which is illegal. It puts you at risk and interrupts traffic.

The reason for the tickets is all the "wanna be" thugs that walk down the middle of the street, refusing to move when cars approach. I happen to know the Glenwood Police get flooded with calls from citizens complaining these kids just refuse to move out of the way for cars. Do you honestly think the Village makes any significant amount of money off of these tickets? What is the fine-$25.00? Most of these kids' parents don't even show up for the hearing and the ones that do are usually given a warning for the first offense with no fine. Here's an idea-use the sidewalk. If you are a parent, teach your kids how to act right, discipline them when they don't and stop blaming the police, schools and cities for your deficiencies as a parent! If you were tough enough to walk down the middle of the street and stare down the driver of a car, refusing to move, then be tough enough to accept your ticket.
