Silver City doctor faces ethics violation

I know Dr Sparks and I could never imagine her doing something like what they are saying she allegedly did. These allegations against her will be found to be false.

WOW is right.

I have always found Dr. Sparks to be a first class doctor and person. Anyone want to take bets that she is cleared and the Sun-News gets sued as the Silver City Daily Press did a few years ago?

Surely there was always people around after the patients were put under anethesia. How could it have happened? I also have always found Dr. Sparks to be a first class dr. and person. She sure helped me.

She helped me too. She is very generous.

Thank God for people who step up to the plate to report these kinds of actions. I would imagine that it did not come without consequences that will need to be dealt with.

I wonder if her sexual preference has anything to do with this.

Seriously??? I guess you are one of those who believe all members of the LGBT community are predators. Of course her sexual preference has nothing to do with it.

The Medical Board does not file a Notice of Contemplated Action just on having received unsubstantiated allegations. Since the Notice is a public document of a government agency, the Sun-News won't be sued for reporting the actions of a government agency.

Dr. Sparks is an outstanding surgeon, physician, and community activist. The kindness and professionalism she showed me over the years is unparallelled. The only way her sexual orientation is relevant is if the complainant/s are seeking to destroy her career because of that orientation, and that kind of vituperative attack would certainly not be surprising, given the prejudices of many uninformed Americans. I have no doubt she will be cleared of all charges, and I hope all members of the SC community demonstrate their support for this wonderful woman.

The Sun-News hThe Sun-News once again has proved that it has lost its integrity. They seem to believe it is ok to ruin a person’s life and business based on accusations. When these accusations are proved to be false, and they will be, I sincerely hope that Dr. Sparks sues not only the publication for damages but also sues the reporter personally who wrote the story. I am sure the reporter is ignorant to the fact that under New Mexico law where when a judgment is entered by a court, your pay check can be garnished until the balance is paid. I think if more people sued and stood up for their rights, this type of sloppy journalism would end. It tends to hit home when it comes out of your own pocket.

really folks, if this sort of thing was really going on, with so much medical staff around, don't you think we would have heard about it a long time ago? i have always found gila regional and its staff to be quite professionl. sounds to me like someone got fired and is trying to do a little pay back.

I can only speak from my own experiences with Dr. Sparks and those experiences were not met with any positive outcome.
She recommended my son have tubes put in his ears after a single office visit then, after the time frame in which she gave me to decide, I chose to not opt for surgery at that time, she berated me saying that I was not a good parent and it should be allowed by doctors to inform the proper governmental agencies when parents put their children's physical well being at such a risk. That when, and there would be a when, my son finally could go no longer without the surgery, she would be sure that action was taken against me! Needless to say, less than a year later, my son no longer has regular ear infections and has been fine since (10 years ago now!).
Then some years later I was refered to her, and having no other choice, had to opt for her as the needed physician. Although I had insurance coverage through my employer and payed my required co-pays on each visit, I discovered that my credit report lists a very high past due balnce from her office that they have refused to explain, so I finally gave up! It's now been almost 7 years and it's still there...
I just hope that the process and decision following will be appropriate for what it is she may/may not have done.
Sparks IS NOT the fantastic, awesome physician/person she portrays herself to be...

Just curious... were the victims male or female...

This was an excellent job reporting the facts of the case - interesting how Dr. Sparks website has been disconnected now.

I'll just add my comment that she has always been professional and caring and has solved so many allergy problems for friends of mine. That said, silverkid and the others who have already judged her guilty, come on by and I'll give you the stone to cast at her. Then we'll look into your past (maybe even your computer files) and find what's in your past or better yet what allegations are out there against you. Obviously you are not Christians, simply Pharisees. There are reasons we have processes to sort through this kind of situation - so let's use it and leave judgment to those who have knowledge to judge.

"anyone can file a complaint about a physician with the board. Complaints are reviewed by a committee, which then makes a recommendation to the Board. Every complaint is investigated, but not every complaint results in action by the Board. If the Board votes to close the case with no action taken, then no documents would be filed.... Of those, 29 rose to the level of action by the New Mexico Medical Board, ranging from letters of reprimand, stipulations, suspensions and Notices of Contemplated Action (NCAs)." (A Notice of Contemplated Action has been filed.)

Rob C - this has nothing to do with me. You seem like a very angry person. I have a right to my opinion, that the Sun News did an excellent job reporting the facts on this story. The laws are set up to protect the physicians, not the patients. the Sun News reported that on Dr. Sparks website she listed with her credentials the fact she worked at UNM as an apointee teaching physician. She was never a member of the faculty AND....now her website has been disconnected from the internet. Those are the facts Rob C and Dr. Sparks patients and the rest of Silver City have the right to know it.
