Are the accidents truly the result of moped negligence? It seems to me that the roads are just too narrow around here to accomodate mopeds and bicycles. Driver's license for a moped? Are you serious? Then you should require one for a bicycle too. Have tiers for licenses and what type of vehicle it will cover. The roads need to be wider...especially in the country.

Most of these accidents are the result of the moped riders thinking that they own the road. They move a lot slower than cars and trucks, and yet they think that it's funny to go 25MPH on a road like north 9th street with it's 45MPH limit, and see how many cars they can get lined up behind them. If they are not smart enough to get out of the way, instead of blocking traffic, then they deserve to get hit.

The state legislature needs to do something about the mopeds. There were four innocent precious childrens' lives lost three days ago involving a moped of the cause of the tragic accident on a highway. How many more childrens' lives have to be lost before laws get changed.

If it is being driven on the road as motorized vehicles are, then yes, a license. This would cut down on a lot of these "DUI mobiles" driving on roads with speed limits that exceed the capabilities of the vehicle.
My grandpa drives a moped to the grocery store, and he enjoys it. I can't decide if it's more dangerous for him to be in his truck where he is inclined to follow all vehicular laws, or on that moped where he thinks he is a car when he needs to be a car, and a bike when it's easy to be a bike.
A license procedure (or certification) would be wonderful for spelling out the laws and expectations for moped operators.
I am sad for the Monticello children that lost their lives this week. I am not sure if the moped was the cause, but regardless this is an issue to be dealt with.

That is the most ridiculous thing you can say and your the idiot who would probably hit them since you can't get to point B fast enough. I think we can all say people are getting more aggressive when driving and aren't going the speed limit even if nothing is front of them slowing them down. I hope you enjoy even more on the road with gas prices going how they are..I'm sure they will eventually make mopeds go a little faster years to come. P.S. if someone got behind me too close when im on my motorcycle...they won't like the end result of what I do. RIP Bradley Trifone

I just haven't seen any moped drivers breaking the rules of the road. I do see more of them and bicycles too...which isn't changing anytime soon. It means cars need to slow down and be cautious. And, if this trend continues, roads need to be made wider. I'm not against licensure, I just think there needs to be tiers of licensing. And, that includes bicycles on the road too.

I think they shouldn't do it because people with special needs have a moped and they shouldn't be pentlized for someone elses actions and also if they were to get a licence they would difficulty taking the test if someone read it to them it might work but I think you should really think hard before passing this

I think the moped laws are good the way they are. How about police just asking for I.D once in a while to assure the rider is old enough. Also, why not make roads a little wider and have television commercials that promote awareness and safe driving.
I have a friend who rides his 50cc moped from crawfordsville to lafayette twice a week. He is "Not a DUI Dude" and he simply enjoys this cheap yet slower form of transportation.
I will also note that Kevin is very thoughtfull of drivers on the road, for he will actually sometimes pull over to stop just to make sure that drivers can pass safely.

Just like you cannot tell if a Spanish speaking person is a legal resident or an illegal alien, you cannot tell if a moped user is actually a conservative, ecologically responsible person or a looser who has lost his driver's license. Chances are moped users on North 9th Street are loosers on their way to or from the Correctional Facility to serve their time for doing something illegal. And chances are those loosers do illegal things on a regular basis. They have no respect for the law or for people around them, much less for them selves. People like that will still drive drunk or without a license or without insurance, but, if there is a law and they are caught breaking that law, maybe they will finally be locked up.
Sure, these guys are not hard-time fellons but they are a danger to the rest of us who try to follow the law and act responsibly with respect for people around us. I say, to drive a motorized vehicle on any road, the driver should be required to have a license plate for the vehicle, have liability insurance for accidents they cause, and have a valid driver's license. In addition, slow moving vehicles should be required to get as far to the right of the road as possible to allow faster vehciles to safely pass.
Basically, I agree with you Eric; DUI Dudes driving their liquor cycles and intentionally blocking traffic deserve to get pushed off the road into a nice big mud puddle or worse...

"Deserve to get hit" is an interesting anger response but would hold little water in a wrongful death lawsuit. I suggest you keep your anger, and your opinions in check before someone does it for you.

The economy in the toilet, gas prices up, people losing their homes, 2 wars and billions in the economy being lost, jobs drying up and a state that has the time to focus on mopeds? we have laws now, enforce them. Lets take away a cheap means of transport for hoosiers who already cant afford gas prices, add more people to welfare roles and raise taxes to pay for it...elections are coming, alting and klinker are in positions to help, do they?? Klinker says public safety, u now make a 25mph machine legal to ride on state roads, safe??? Governor davis lost his job in califronia, maybe hoosiers need to do the same here, they work for us, not us for them...officals lose their jobs a few times and is amazing how quickly they focus on the real issues....gas, economy, taxes and law enfocement.

If you intentionally put yourself in a dangerous situation and something bad happens to you, then you earned it. When it comes to SOME (meaning not all or even most) of these moped riders, they INTENTIONALLY ride their scooters at a top speed of 20-25MPH on roads that curves, have several blind spots, and speed limits of 45-55MPH. When they do this, and then they get hit by a motor vehicle going the posted limit or more (lets face it, almost nobody does the speed limit), they deserve whatever happens to them. And forget your lawsuit. They are the ones breaking the law, not the motorist who hits them. And even in this nanny state, that negates any lawsuit that can be brought againt the motorist.

Eric you need to Read the Law You MUST keep your vehicle under control at ALL times that means when your speeding down the road just because there is no cop around and YOUR getting away with breaking the law and run into someone You Don't get to blame the the one you run into. Start driving slower! Use less fuel! Save a life it may be your own!
