As if "no knock" warrants aren't bad and dangerous enough, the testosteron-fueled good ol' boys decide to wait until the man and his wife are home and asleep before breaking down the door. Sounds like they wanted a shoot-out.

This really doesn't sound fair at all. Even the judge has doubt, but he still got the time. No officers were hurt, and he was shot.

Can happen anywhere

This is horrible. Not that I'm condoning the drug dealing - he should of course get time on those charges, but I find it hard to believe he could form intent based on someone entering his house when he was asleep. I think a reasonable person would have shot as well.

This scum is lucky. For shooting at law enforcement he should have been blown away on the spot. He got off lucky, only losing an arm. I hope that it was his dominant hand. And he was a druggie to boot? Scumbag. If there's any justice in the world he'll get a vicious infection.

Can't believe is so little knowledge about Police work. But at the same time these same people that know nothing about the job are so quick to criticize. Is like they are the monday morning coach guessing what went wrong or right. Police work is a very dangerous proffession and you people that don't know about it should take time to think and analyze what was done and why. There is no worst blind that the one that just don't want to see. Drug dealers are criminal, they are the one who sell the marijuana to your kids in the school, parks, neighborhoods. They are the one who get in shootings killing inocent people, bring protitution and all sort of crime to our city. But no, POlice shoulded call the felon and let him know that they were on the way to get him, that's ridiculos, get a life people!! GOOD JOB POLICE AND JURORS! WHAT A TEAM.

IndianaCop wrote: Sounds like they wanted to catch 'em asleep and HOME so they could take his A S S to jail. I'm with you, Indiana Cop. All these lib. idiots questioning the police tactics... WHERE ARE THEY when this a-hole sells weed to a 16 year old, who then goes out, gets stoned, and drive his car over a bridge into a river and dies? I'll tell you where they are: NOWHERE TO BE FOUND. I'm glad the cops served the warrant when the pot head was home. Glad no officers were hurt. Glad they are willing to stand up and say "WE WONT ALLOW THIS IN OUR COMMUNITY" Maybe if Cheech had made better decisions in life, he would still have his arm and his freedom. Good work, jury!

How many times does one need to sell drugs to the police before being arrested? Why not just arrest the guy at the time of the sale, and then search his home while he is safely in jail? Dumb.

Are you kidding me

If this is true, that the police burst into this guys house in the middle of the night - I probably would have done the same thing. The police did have some fault to this as well. He was woke up in the middle of his sleep - he dealt drugs - of course some crap was bound to go down - I'm surprised the guy's not dead. You know how gun happy policemen are nowadays.

The ol' "BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!!! THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" argument. In this country, you can pretty much get away with suspending any civil liberty or right as long as you couch it as being "for the children." Because, of course, who wants to go on record as being against children? I love semantic manipulation.

This is 100% the fault of the police. For kicking a guy's door down without identifying themselves, in the middle of the night, they are lucky one of them didn't get killed; they deserved it. Any time police make war on citizens, they are destroying our country and way of life. They should all be fired. It is a travesty of justice that someone should get 22 years for self-defense. There is no excuse for not arresting this guy the moment he sold to a cop. Shame on the police. All this over a weed? Prohibitionists are idiots.

Sounds like they wanted a shoot-out. Yep, Jack booted thugs. They wanted to kill the man over some pot. Hope he gets an appeal. This judge also seems to be pretty decent. She won't last long. Many states place Judges by popular vote. This is good, as it makes the Judges more beholden to the people paying their salaries than to the Attorneys (Prosecution and Defense)OR Police

Another account of a shoot-out with a misdemeanor pot dealer. When will Indy see the light like some other cities and do away with "no-knock" SWAT raids on small time drug dealers.

Golly....good thing all that evil marijuana is off the street.
All those fatal auto accidents and domestic beatings will be avoided. Oh.....wait....those things happen when people use the LEGAL drug of alcohol.
But...for heaven's sake, let's keep locking up stoners whose only desire is a quick trip to White Castle and a Grateful dead video.

With this incident, and "IndianaCop" above, it is clear why I fear Cops more than criminals today. You can shoot the criminals that bust in your door!
