Why wouldn't everyone in the U.S. not expect holiday sales to be flat. People don't even have the money to buy food, gas, and the essentials let alone worry about buying gifts for the holiday.

It took "economic experts" to figure this out? What is their next revelation going to be, an "unforseen increase in heating bills this winter", or something equally earth shattering? I'll bet we could find the same information if we polled 5th and 6th graders. I really hope our tax dollars didn't pay for that report. The kids from the local elementary school would have done it for free, and had fun doing so, with probably the same accuracy.
