This is where Government "Steps out of bounds" in my opinion. I know of some folks who have wanted to purchase this property but have changed their minds once they discovered that the "city" wants it all torn down and built new again at the price tag of $2,000,000 for the purchase of the land alone. Money could be put into those structures to make them sound and safe again, and GOOD MANAGEMENT COULD KEEP THE TRASH OUT. What hurt this complex and caused it to go to hell is the fact that the owners lived out of the country, and frankly didnt care how these units were being taken care of as long as the Government subsidies or payments were coming in. If you have a private owner who cares for the property, the tenants, etc., all of this could have been avoided. That is why it is called preventive maintenance. At one time that complex use to be quite nice, and could be again, if the right owners took it over. That is where the problem lays, and always has.

Our great Mayor has wanted to tear down this complex for many years. The problem is that if you have Owners who live out of the country and shift the profit from one property to another without leaving money for every day operations, the Management has to find the money somewhere to meet daily and monthly bills!! Any quesses as to how much a complex the size of Bridgeway pays for its utilities alone? If the Mayor would have tried to work with the Management of Bridgeway instead of turning a blind eye, the ending might have been different. It is too bad when you have local Police in the complex and they still can't control the crime.

Everyone who lived there has moved out, yes? I say tear it down and make the property a park or just bare land for sale for development. No the gov't does not need to rebuild.

Unfortunately no, everyone has not moved out. There are about 40 units still occupied. We don't need another park! What we need is an area for the less fortunate people to live and survive in. The majority of the people of Bridgeway did not choose to live there, it was just a stroke of bad luck.
