Smoking Ban begins September 1st

Yet another abuse of our freedoms...all hail the police state!

I think this smoking ban takes away smokers rights. Smokers should have a Right to smoke wherever they choose. This smoking ban is gettin Way out of hand. Do I smoke? Yes,and Enjoy it very much. No one should have the Right to tell me where I can and cannot smoke. I'm Totally against the smoking ban

I don't know about other smokers of which there are more than 100.000.000 VOTERS! that are tired of being made too feel like lepers!We are human too.Our money is just as green. I think this whole thing is pure bovine,scatology?? Another words,it stinks!!

I think its great. Smoke in your house if you want but not where other people are affected.

Your smoking ban is a big load of crap. I'm forced to breath in the tons on pollutants your cars pump out everyday but oh my goodness don't let you smell my cigarette. Well I'm going to take great pleasure in blowing my exhales into you non smokers faces at every chance I get. Forget 10 feet I'm still smoking WHEREEVER I want outside. No one has the right to tell me what I can do in the free air. So all you non-smoking snobs can kiss my butt! No pun intended!!!

Sargent67--go right ahead and smoke yourself to death. When you finally succumb to emphysema, COPD, cancer, etc. than at least there will be 1 less smoker to worry about offending with the smoking bans. Just don't think that you have the right to include me in your little suicide project or try to make me pay your medical bills with my hard earned tax dollars.

Mike Ramos, you say smoking ban is taking smokers rights yet we nonsmokers are forced to inhale the nasty smoke. We go to restaurants and smell like we just came out of a bar. I could careless if smokers want to suck on cancer sticks just don't don't smoke it around me or my family.

The Illinois ban has been around for 9 months now. In quite a few small "mom and pop" bars, it's becoming a faded history.

Do your self a favor, instead of paying for that next pack of smokes, just set the money on fire and watch it go up in smoke, maybe you will begin to see the light as how foolish it is to pay for that poison and consider quitting!

Yes I know I am hell on smoking, I was once a smoker myself, I have had too many friends that are dead or dying from this bad habit, and if I could convince anybody to stop using this poison, my posts will be worth my time.
Along with the habit a person gets an attitude that the other guy is going to get sick, not me, well the other guy is very possibly going to be you!

Thank you for the quote - you said it well and I couldn't agree more - why should smokers have all the rights - I do not smoke and never have - but if I am anywhere near a smoker, I still have to breathe their pollution. I have a right to breathe smoke free air! I do not choose suicide - my husband had already quit years before, but the damage had apparently already been done and he lost a most painful battle struggling for every last breath. I will not allow my children to be subjected to the stupidity! Thank you Lafayette!

Couldn't agree more. The majority rules about public behavior. We non-smokers have rights and choose to live away from the obvious danger and should not be placed in danger by those who are too "hooked" to realize their own addiction letalone the danger to others around them all so they can get their fix. Let them smoke in their own cars or in their own homes - but keep it away from the general public - you wouldn't walk around with small pox or some other highly contagious disease - so don't infect me or my loved ones with your poison - it just makes common sense!

what a crazy world we live in where you can drink at a restaurant, leave impaired where you can kill so many in a short time but the only people who get picked on are smokers....

A healthy working environment is great! However, as Americans, it is important to remember that we have freedom of choice here. Business owners should have the freedom to choose if they make their businesses smoke-free.

Smokers and nonsmokers alike shouldn't be arguing whether or not smoking is unhealthy; BOTH sides know it is very unhealthy; the issue is freedom of choice being taken away.

This argument will never go away because many will argue the piddly stuff and not fight for the freedom businesses are losing.

All smokers will tell you they can "I can quit anytime I want to" well apparently that is not true as they can't get through a meal and wait long enough to go outside and smoke where that they won't force nonsmokers to breath that crap!

If I wish to "smoke myself to death" as you put it...dont I have the right to do so? Yes I do! All this ban is doing is infringing on MY rights and costing local establishments income. Not to mention all the tax payers dollars spent in discussing, drafting and implimenting this law. And I'm interested in how you are paying my medical bills? Whats your address I'll start sending them over. Because when last I checked I not you paid my bills. This ban isnt going to affect those people who do use your tax dolars simply because those who are so poor to actually qualify for aid from our wonderful goverment arent very likely to be eating out much are they? Besides that which is more likely to cost this city more, the few poor peoples medical bills who can actually afford cigarettes since we are also singled out it seems on the amount of tax we must pay or the overall medical problems suffered by everyone because of the amount of polutants in the air such as those comming from your car?
People in general seem to have their priorities completely skewed do to public opinion. You can stand on a corner and drink a beer but you cant smoke a cigarette because its not 10 feet from the building which is smoke free. That is wrong in so many ways I cant begin to list them all.
