Most of these deadheads are goofy, rich white ... adults, now.

Though they pretended to be easy-going, they made huge $$$.

Does the $350 for a ticket also include the LSD?

Rumour has it that the Marin Pot Head dispensaries will have their mobile dispensaries on site selling pot to anyone that has money. They will be introducing a new strain of pot that was specially formulated for this Dead Symphony...

So you're saying only stressed and uptight people should make a lot of money? Imagine that, these easy-going deadheads ended up having regular jobs, some of them good jobs....how awful and hypocritical of them! They were all supposed to end up living in squalor and traveling from city to city, peddling drugs and listening to Uncle John's Band all day. Totally unacceptable of them!

Actually, they did live in squalor (even in their Mansions), and they did travel from city to city peddling drugs. And Jerry Garcia's early death speaks for itself.

There is nothing wrong with them making all their money, but it was under USA capatalism that they made their money -- the same system and the same country the hippie culture was always denouncing -- there's your hypocracy.

So a "goofy, rich, white, adult" can't enjoy good music?? I think a true dead ahead can appreciate their 'brother' whether they are goofy, rich, which or adult. I just want to hear and the music!!

From what I gather, the hippie culture was denouncing a senseless war in Vietnam and repression of basic civil rights at home. You are confusing one important point - one can fight for change, yet still love their country.

There's no hypocrisy in denouncing a flawed system. How many people here criticize our country today because they disagree with current immigration policies, for example? The hippies that you condemn paved the way for change throughout the world and my generation is grateful for it.

So what great change did the hippie/greatful dead generation give the USA? And "pave the way for change throughout the world ... "? What great world change?

And "my generation is grateful for it." Since when do you speak for an entire generation? Are you smoking something that's inflating your ego?

Fair enough question. The protesting in the 60's against a useless war and for human rights began with the hippies and urban blacks. Women became liberated, student protests happened in Berkeley, Columbia Univ., SF State, Kent State, Jackson State...urban riots, Democratic Convention riots....all of this was watched by the entire world and emulated to a degree by students and activists in Czechoslavakia, Poland, France, Spain, Mexico City, and Berlin among others. That 'protest era' was important because before, opinions of the masses were squashed by governments. Suddenly, it became common for people worldwide to demand better treatment from their ruling parties. To demand basic freedoms. Maybe some of their methods weren't the best, but they caught the world's attention and change was the result. The hippie generation did not accept Watergate, police riots, FBI improprieties, lack of voters rights, keeping women back, and on and on. The rest of the world saw this and responded in their own way. To just dismiss the hippies as pot-smoking, music-listening lazy bums is foolish.

And before you rush to say that riots and civil unrest were not helpful, consider how out of control and unaccountable our government was in those days. When our country has civil unrest, such as the Boston Tea Party, things often happen for the best.

Maybe I have no right to speak for 'my generation'. It's just an opinion, but everyone I know thinks we have way more freedom because of the 60's generation. At least those who know their history. So you shouldn't overlook what the hippie/protest era did for us.

p.s. I'm not a liberal or a socialist so don't go calling me a commie. I'm just giving credit where credit is due.

I hope you extend the same reprieve then for present day Tea Partiers who are trying to check an even more out of control government?

Frankly though, quality rock music is one of the only beneficial things to come out of the hippie era. Sadly, too many of the baby boom generation never grew up from their immature mistakes made at that time.

At least in the DeadHead subculture, rejection of capitalism was a minority viewpoint. Capitalism thrived on tour and most DeadHeads I knew, even then, were very much part of the capitalist system in their every day lives away from tours.

And since when do you speak for an entire group of people? You have no more the right to make sweeping generalizations about DeadHeads - particularly since it's obvious you were not a part of this group nor understand it. But still you feel you can speak with authority about them?

The whole Woodstock/Deadhead movement was a parade for nihilism and "don't judge me, man" but down with America and capatalism -- the political system that had given them the freedom & luxury to spend all their time "protesting," i.e. doing more drugs.

Jerry Garcia died of an heroin overdose. Charles Manson, Patty Hurst, in jail for murder. End of story, enjoy the music at $350.

Jeez. Why all the hate and personal attacks against this musician? If you don't like the music or the scene, don't listen or don't go. Or is this a product of our political times. Cool down, folks.

The only difference is that the Hippies weren't racists. The Tea baggers are racist..... just saying...

Agree that the Tea Party has every right to contest the status quo and try to make changes they believe in.

Disagree that rock was the only beneficial thing in that era. Are you kidding me? Because of the global unrest that our hippies started and other countries emulated, the Berlin wall came down, the U.S.S.R. failed, the war in Vietnam ended, women's rights evolved, people started caring about the environment, minority voting in the South became reality, and on and on. You could make an argument that the 1960's were the most influential years in modern history.

Yeah, like you can summarize that era with those 3 examples....how shallow of you! Way to ignore all the good and focus on the negative.

BTW, Jerry died of a heart attack brought on from his diabetic condition and weight issues, not from a heroin overdose. He hadn't used heroin for quite some time before that.

Yes, Manson was in the 60's...so? Do you think the general public was influenced by that wack-job nut-case? Don't insult our intelligence.

There are multiple holes in what you just said. That's going to be just be my opinion in this case however, because this doesn't really seem like the forum for it.

Daily Horoscope for February 13

Gemini

This is a good time to take stock of your actions and the direction you're going in. Are your efforts getting you anywhere or leading you astray and scattering your energy? If you're putting in the work but not moving forward, you're not on track. The old adage 'cut your coat according to your cloth' is good advice. Be simple and purposeful and don't waste time with things that get no practical results.
