1. I don't understand why you think that giving licenses will increase revenue in a meaningful way. If there are 12 million (quoted number of Latin American illegals in the US), not all want to or are old enough to drive. And they certainly are not all in California. So one could postulate that the CA number is 2 million, bringing in just $52M every 4 years. Not much CA budget balancing with that puny sum ..........I read constant posts from people outraged by illegals using our emergency rooms and schools, which cost money. Now 52 million is a "puny sum" and you don't want their money? How does that make any sense?? It a way to recapture some revenue. Why not?

Many, many people continue to drive after losing their license for any number of reasons, including DUI's. You can't possibly be saying this is only an illegal alien issue. You are basically saying that some people will not follow the rules, so why bother at all

3. Last time I checked, you don't have to show proof of insurance to get a drivers license, just to register a car. So how would having a license improve enforcement for having insurance?..... No, but the DMV is notified of uninsured motorists who are caught,either by a simple traffic stop or by being involved in an accident. Then there are new laws that prevent you from registring your vehicle or renewing your license...It is just an imperfect safety net. The same as we have for US Citizens who drive without insurance. Not an illegal issue at all, a human one

I can't possibly believe any of you think that these licenses will allow illegals to vote. The US isn't offering them blanket rights of a US citizen, they are just trying to do a little damage control. The licenses issued will indicate they are not valid proof of US citizenship

I think the fundamental difference is I don't consider a drivers license a reward at all, I consider it an obligation. Illegal aliens are going to come here and they are going to drive, they need to be monitored. Period. And to compare the revenue generate from them obtaining licenses to the revenue from bank robberies is just absurd.......we would make them pay the same fee the rest of us do, pass the same tests and be monitored the same way we are!

Both issues are intertwined. Illegal has everything to do with a citizens are legal immigrants priviledge. If you are not even supposed to be in this country then why would you get a priviledge. You should be arrested for coming into this country illegally and then deported.
