I live in Los Angeles, but grew up in yucky Glen Lyon. The natives are strictly dis, dem and dos. There is something in the water, indeed. The town is visually bankrupt. It's dead as a doornail. Not even a decent place to raise children. All who enter here, abandon all hope.

I grew up in Glen Lyon all of my life and I have got to say that it is the worst place to grow up in. There is absolutely nothing for the kids to do, there were more bars than anything. In my opinion I think that is why the kids in that town get into so much trouble. I moved away from there in 1996 and I have only visited a handful of times since and it has not changed for the better at all, as far as I can tell it has only gotten worse. That place is not worth your time, gas, or money. Speaking of gas, that town did not even have a gas station the whole time I was growing up there. That town is a ghost town.

Is Glen Lyon a good place to retire? Sounds kind of quiet and peaceful. House prices are very cheap from what I see on the internet.

I think the town went downhill with the decline of coal. And they closed the Roosevelt School years ago. They tore down the breaker after the big fire. The population declined from about 4000 people in 1950 and 1960 to less than 2000 today. Younger people moved out leaving only the older folks.

At one time it was Morgantown and Williamstown, two separate towns. Then they became Glen Lyon. With the decline of coal, the town had to decline.

Are there jobs or business in the Glen Lyon area?

I grew up in Nanticoke but know Glen Lyon well. Have relatives living there and friends who did live there. Seemed quiet to me. But I don't think I would have liked to have lived there myself.
The town was famous for awhile in the 1940's when they made the movie The Miracle of the Bells there. Houses are too close together for me. Rather live in Wapwallopen or Dorrance for space. |

Sad to say there are barely any people..It's just a small hamlet, no stop lights, one stop sign, that has a history of very hard working immigrants who came to America and thru their labors made their version of the American dream come true....This is where they settled and abopted it as their home...People have a different idea of home, nowadays, but those who originally came here, and their dependents still cling to many good and bad memories living in the community..I was born there 70 plus years ago, and still visit...My parents left, as many did during the War, but many returned to retire and finish out their lives here...My folks are buried , up the mountain, out of town and I know they are resting in peace....They came back home.. |

Hello! If you are in your 70's and originally from Glen Lyon did you know my friend Pauline? I can't seem to remember her maiden name. I know it began with a T. May Tereshefski or something like that. She married a Kashefski.
Also my cousins wife's family is from there. The Rembecki's. My cousin and his wife still live there on Main St., the Dule family. |

There was a Tereshinski who played football for a professional team.

I think that was Pauline's brother.

I'm 80 years old. I was born in Glen Lyon. We moved to Ma. when I was 13 years old. I went to school with a boy named Paul Tereshinski who had a twin sister named Pauline. They also had an older brother named Joe who played football for the Washington Redskins.

I am very good friends with Pauline. She lives in Sheatown now. We worked together and now we both are retired but we still send each other Christmas cards and keep in touch. Her last name now is Kashefski. She has 2 sons. Pauline's brother just died not too long ago. Can't remember which one. |
