Hey I Love It, I did my research and I paid 4500 below kelly blue book at carmax and when I sold a land rover 2 years ago I received only 300.00 below kelly blue book and to be honest I thought that was great deal for both parties. Anyone with any business sense knows that carmax makes the profit in the financing and if you do your resarch there you will see that they are very competitive. I would like to see all the crooked car dealers die and take their stupid cornball commercials with them!!!!!

Is anyone actually crying about this? After years of getting raped by car dealers on their markup prices, I shed no tears when one closes. Believe me they've made their money off of the public.
Besides, do we need a car dealership on every other corner?

I worked at the Chevy plant on Broening Highway. We made great cars. Well most of them were great and most of them started up, sometimes. We made some Monte Carlos. Sometimes the electric windows didn't work and I would fix them. I made a lot of overtime fixing brand new cars. Pretty cool, huh? Now I got the emfy-sema from smoking un-filter Pall Malls and Lucky Strikes. Not so lucky for me.

I don't understand the mentality of most of these comments. If you all think car dealers are just out to make as much money as they can, what is wrong with that? Isn't that democracy? Isn't that what you do when you accept a job? I'm assuming that you wish to make as much as you can with what talent you have.... If you think these dealers are 'raking it in' and taking advantage of you by making a profit, then why aren't YOU a dealer? Or at least buying their stock? If the car companies are really operating on that high a profit-margin, then why aren't you clever enough to do it yourself instead of whining about how bad you are being treated by the industry? If the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, then figure out how to get to it instead of standing there moaning about it! This is why we live in a democracy - you get to make your OWN future!

As the small dealers disappear those left standing will be in a position to dictate price. Consumers lose when competion disappears.

It's not all about the selling of cars from these dealerships ... I wonder how this affects getting the people whose cars are usually SERVICED at these dealerships. And ... Where have those technicians gone? Are they out of jobs?

With on-line comparisons, shopping, and ordering tools available, maybe the time of the big car dealership is past. Who says we need to have acres of lots filled with vehicles that the dealer ordered, just hoping someone would buy them? I can see a new type of dealer where all they carry is a representative sample of cars that one can test drive. Then you order your car through an on-line terminal and pick it up a month later at the same place.
