I'm from Cookville but live now in Ohio - the only thing that area needs to worry about is the "run over of Mexicans".....

I know all about the corruption in Mt. Vernon. My ex husband is a Jones. His cousin is Chief Deputy Ricky Jones. I had the audacity to vote against the sheriff at the time Chuck White. My ex in laws were furious.
I was supporting my good friend Cliff St. Clair. Of course everyone said I was sleeping with him..lol You know how it goes.
I guess Franklin county finally wised up, because they finally voted White out of office in 08. Yeah!

One of my fellow LEOs was stopped in Mt. Pleasant for going 6 over the speed limit. Guess what? He was given a ticket. Incidently he is 23, black, carries a gold shield (criminal investigator) and he drives a new, 300Z. Aparently, all of Northeast Texas along the interstate is a speed trap. Drivers beware.

I am fairly sure that one of the biggest drug dealers was voted out of office back in November. He was once hooked himself and maybe still is now he is not the sheriff any longer. Oops, I may have said to much,,,,,,bye.

You are right.. Chuck White is still one of the biggest dope dealers in Franklin County. By the way, FYI, the week before the election in 95, Chuck White was arrested for DWI somewhere around Dallas. Hmm. and it never was reported to the county commissioners in Mt. Vernon. Hmm...

Mt. Pleasant and Winfield, on I-30, are bad speed traps. Pittsburg, 10 miles south of Mt. Pleasant, is another.

Cliff St. Clair is a low down SOB. He was screwing around with an EMT in Mt. Vernon back in 1987, 1988, 1989, she was married too, claiming to be a true blue family man. I guess people believe him because a man with a house full of kids would not stray,,,now would they??....Did I mention that I caught them at Lake Cypress????? No wonder they railed him out of California.

I have to say that after reading these comments I would have to agree with most of the statements as being true. Today I had my day in court for a speeding ticket with Judge Paul J. Lovier for going 75 mph in a night zone posted at 65 mph. Had I knowingly been speeding I would have paid the ticket and moved on, however I recently moved to Texas from the North East where there is no night speed limit restrictions and living in Dallas County where there are no night signs I was unaware of this, so I believed that the big white sign that said SPEED LIMIT 70 MPH was the speed limit. I don’t know about Texas drivers but do they really stare at their speedometers and maintain and exact speed. This may be possible and explain all the sudden lane changes and un-signaled turns made because they are too busy looking at their speedometer. Anyway I was pulled over in my car and I have a CDL so I was unable to do any type of driving course to avoid it going on my license or affecting my personal auto insurance. So I took a chance that the court would exhibit some kind of leniency because I was new to the state and was unaware of any such speed limits. Incidentally I asked the Texas RMV if there were any differences in the traffic laws in Texas compared to the North East and I was told no. Since Texas and Montana are the ONLY 2 states in the continental US that have such a law I feel I should have been notified or at least given a motor vehicle hand book when I paid to transfer my CDL license. Anyway it did not matter the court is there for one reason and one reason only to collect money. The court has it down to a science, they have the towns attorney there for the state troopers and there is nothing you can do about it. When I questions Trooper Ownes about the night I was pulled over he had the wrong color of my car, the ticket said I was going 10% over the limit both which were wrong. When I asked him did he ask me if I knew the speed limit he did not recall my answer which I explained above about just moving to Texas (Imagine that?) Anyway I found the court to be just as described above, if you do not live in the town you have no chance what so ever. Could I have had the case dismissed if I hired a local attorney probably because it truly is just like the movie my cousin Vinnie where everyone knows everyone. To the credit of Judge Lovier, he was very polite and was very explanatory of what was happening and why I am not sure if he was doing this because I went first and he wanted to make sure no one else tried to get a dismissal, at the end of the day it is just like the person said unless you can prove the officer, the Texas Laws, The Court, The Towns attorney , and probably God Almighty himself that you are innocent your getting a guilty verdict.(My Advice, Pay the ticket you can’t win in MT Vernon TX)

To anyone’s knowledge has a traffic ticket ever been dismissed in MT Vernon? If so please post the details. I am disgusted with the whole issue. I wasted 5 hours of driving for nothing today. Interstate 30 in East Texas is just a speed trap. The town’s attorney states all the obvious things regarding how officers calibrate the radar guns 3 times a day and all the formality stuff. So if any lawyers are out there people would rather pay you the ridiculous fines then pay the town of Mt Vernon and have an insurance surcharge on their license. This is a good chance to make some money if you can beat a ticket, it would be worth driving back there just to watch the groups faces if it can be done.

Could it be because Winfield is the only wet area? Congradulations on every DUI caught speeding, driving on wrong side of road, throwing out beer cans and running into inocent people head on. I don't know about Pittsburg speed traps, but I've never had any problems reading the posted signs.

I got a ticket on Mother's day for doing 60 in a 55mph? Talk about nit-picking. They nearly laughed me out of traffic school! Beware of Mt. Vernon for they are desperate!

Hey, if you are going the speed limit, you will not have to worry about getting a ticket. If you don't know the driving laws of Texas, that's your own fault. Sorry.

I am in Texas working on my PhD and was given a ticket which was dismissed; I do agree that Paul Lovier is an uneducated person trying to play as if he were an important "Judge". I do agree that the city and county are a "revenue" trying to simply squeeze your wallet for all they can!

Well, They told me in traffic school that most all law enforcement allows 3-5 MPH over posted speed limit. This Officer also said anyone giving a ticket instead of a warning for only 5MPH over is a hardnose, or greedy in getting a quota for the city. I've been driving for 45 years, and this was my first ticket, So I'm not a law breaker, and I'd be willing to bet many are lying if they say they haven't gone over the posted speed limit a few times in their lives. Some are such hypocrites, and gosh so perfect! BULL! You need to preach your fibs to someone who believes them.
BTW, My son is a Policeman, and my Mother was a Municipal Judge. So I know when law enforcement is being ridiculous, and Mt. Vernon has several that are apparently that way.

Mount Vernon forums are back open at http://krbrfm.com/forums.html

We took them down when the Mayor promised to "get this all worked out". But it was just a load of hot air and nothing has been done about what he calls "Internal Problems" at the city.

JD is the kind of guy you want to like. But his actions or lack thereof trump all of this. Just another kiss ass politician it would seem.

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Leo

You're really on the ball today so there's no danger of anyone tricking you or fobbing you off with lame excuses. If you suspect that a loved one is hiding something from you, you'll want to question them in a lot of detail. That's all very well but try not to turn it into the third degree, nor to make them feel hounded or bullied by your desire to know what's going on.
