This town charges extra 2% restaurant tax for easy walker park. why does the park look like a dump why do residents still get charged for signing kids up to play. why does the park carry the walker name when we are all and have been paying for it every single time we eat out? WHERE is this money going? If I had to guess its making the Walkers richer!

you are an idiot looking to stir up crap so I will spell this out for you just once. I took just a few minutes to search out the answers you didn't want,
1. Park looks great except when bums like you go in after hours dropping your trash. It gets cleaned up the next day so you don't have to walk five feet to the trash can.
2.everyone, not just residents, get charged because it helps pay for the program. Half the tax each year goes to park payments, the other half for up keep.
3. Park still carries the Walker name because of donations made when building it. Arthur Walker has been very generous in making donations to this community. The other park carries Herb Botts name because of his physical contributions he made to make this a better community.
3. You didn't have to guess but you did have to make a slur ref Walkers making money off of park.

Why not start by giving your real reason for making these false allegations

You will find that in a town as small minded as this one that people don't care to pay an extra tax to help those who don't need help financially, but they whine about paying 1/4th of a cent toward the poor. We are among idiots my friend. I don't know if it is going to the Walkers but it would be interesting to know what the parks are doing with the tax money, considering that the park has become a danger. If you go up there any day of the week you see groups of rough looking teenagers hanging up at the playset area where children should be able to enjoy a safe environment. I've seen people driving their cars through the park. They need to use that tax money to hire a patrol officer to enforce park rules.

I think it is a little weird that no other towns are charged this extra 2% restaurant tax just to upkeep a park. Winchester does not have an extra charge everytime u go to mcdonalds to eat. Lexington doesn't either and last time I checked they have great parks. Everyone does pay this extra two percent if they eat out! Why don't they use the money that hundreds of people pay every time they register their children to play softball, and soccer, and tball and baseball. And the swimming pool entry fee? Why doesn't that money go to park bills and upkeep. Last time I checked they only had two or three employees doing the upkeep! I am pretty sure you don't understand where I am coming from. Check your receipt from Mcdonalds or Wendys or Long Johns next time and then compare it to a receipt from Wendys in Winchester. Why are the patrons of restaurants still paying this extra 2% when we were told years ago that it would only be temporary?

Part of that money also goes to pay for the tourism office and director to promote tourism in Mt. Sterling / Montgomery Co. There is alot to do and see in this area though some would never admit to it. The park is also a big draw when bringing in business and industries to the area. The park is a big asset to the community.

I agree with you, it would be nice to have that investigated. since we have been paying this extra tax for years and years it would be nice to know where exactly the money is going and how it is being used, if you really sit down and think about it, how much money alone does Mcdonalds make in a day? The park gets 2% of that every single transaction. And it's not just Mcdonalds, its Pizza Hut, and Wendys, and Burger King, and El Camino. Every single restaurant in this town except the Mcdonalds at Pilot. Where is this money going?

Well I see the park looking worse and worse every time I go and take my child. They need to improve the play area for the kids. If you go to any other counties park it looks way nicer than ours. Same equipment for the past 15-20 years. I also have seen people driving others to the bathrooms. Nice way to get run over just because someone can't or don't want to walk to the bathroom. With all of this money that people eat out with couldn't they hire security?

and since this is mostly one person posting under different names in an effort to get rid of the restaurant tax you can save money and just take one car

what are there to see in this town that would make anyone want to come here to see?Ihave lived here all my life and the only thing i see is a lot of money been spent for nothing, like spending on the train depot,Botts park, that is just another upkeep,Walker park is big enought to handle all the people that is walking, most of the time there is no more than 8-10 people using the trail.wonder what it cost to blacktop the strip down by the depot.all you see is a bunch of run down houses when you drive around town.I thought someone was getting payed to see that property was kept up and not trashed up,more money spent for nothing.the park anymore is nothing but for dogs anymore, that is all you see.watch where you step.who in there right mind would get off of the interstate and come look at what mt.sterling has to offer.it d'ont take long to see where the tax dollar is going,((IN THERE POCKETS))

EWP is so under used. I heard they were considering a swimming pool there at one time, but that never came about. The current director and staff could use that park to promote tourism in the community, but flat out refuse to host district or state baseball tournaments. It is a great facility, but baseball sign ups have gone from about 500 five years ago to maybe 250 this year.

if you buy gas at shell by the interstate on maysville rd, you pay a resturant tax in the gas station because of the krystal's and chubway. unless you crawled out from under a rock here lately, the whole country has an extra tax imposed on something allowed by our crooked ass government so if this is the best thing ya can find to complain about, i suggest ya pack yer bags and take yer happy ass somewhere else.this is my town, where i was born and raised, left for awhile and returned home to spend my remainin' days where i happen to love. i'll deal with havin' to dig a little deeper to support the kids at the park or the new humane society shelter and if you don't like doin' so, 64 runs east/west and 75 north/south....have a safe trip!!! p.s. the walkers have done more for this town than you'll EVER know, alot of it un-advertised. jus' mention the name donaldson on yer next fact-findin' mission about walker and you'll be amazed how generous this family is!!!

I went to the park today, well mowed, no trash was lying around either. Guess you weren't there.

Winchester's parks, Morehead's parks, Owingsville's park, Menifee's park none compare to EWP.

Called the office, the train station doesn't belong to the parks either.

Winchester and Lexington has restaurant taxes, O'ville and Menifee do not. Couldn't find out anything about Morehead. So your arguments there do not hold up.

I guess you're a daisy after all.....

Studies have shown that the majority of those eating at places like mcdonalds on a daily basis are those that have a lower income. This is due to the fact that food costs are so high at places like Walmart and Kroger that the only way some people can afford to feed their family is to live off the dollar menus at some of these places. With the economic downturn that we are all feeling more and more people have had to live this way.

So, if you are putting a 2% tax on fast food restaurants you are mostly taxing middle to lower income family in order to run that park. So, the same families that the park was suppose to help is in turn causing them more financial stress. Those who do not eat fast food and do not pay the extra 2% yet still have access to the park just like anyone else. It's the same using property taxes to help pay for schools...you are forcing home owners who may not even have kids that go to school to pay extra taxes for schools. How is any of this equal taxation?
