Anyone know anything about the guy and girl who have been begging over near Walmart and exit 110? They sometimes have signs saying they need help getting to Morehead and other times its asking for money or food.

i don't know about those two, but let me tell you this...just because someone LOOKS homeless and says they need help, it's not always the case. be careful who you help today, here's why.

a friend of mine saw a "homeless" man on the side of the road one day and stopped and gave him a sandwich that she had just bought because he had a sign saying "hungry, need money.". after she drove away she looked in her rear view mirror, and the guy threw the sandwich right over the rail behind him.
another time she decided to help, she gave a man 5 dollars to get food to eat. later that day she saw the same man at a store, looking quite a bit better, with a stack of money so thick he could have used it for a footstool apparently.
it's fools like those two that make it hard to help the real thing because you can't tell the difference. i really think we need a good shelter for the REAL thing close by here so they get the help they need without the lazy buzzards taking advantage

I agree that there are those who are posers, but I wouldn't let that stop me from doing what's on my heart to do. About 4 years ago I was in Atlanta visiting a sister and a homeless man was standing on the exit ramp. While we were stopped waiting to merge onto the interstate he gave me a penny and I accepted it. I don't look at it as taking from the poor, he obviously needed/wanted to give me that penny for a reason. I look at it as having my life enriched by him because after 4 years I still think about him. Just do what feels right for you.

I agree Casper4000. The fact that you did a good deed and feel good about it is not lessened by what the recipiant does with it. I agree to be careful also but your good deed is still yours.

Yeah it's a double edged sword for sure. Good for you, certainly nothing wrong in supporting animal shelters. Our first rescue just passed away last fall, he was 14 years old, and I'm a big sucker for taking in the abandoned.

They did a special on 20/20 about it. Where John Stosel (spelled wrong) follewed ppl in a big city that did the homeless stuff and signs for food and money. Those people wasn't even homeless, or need money, or food. They done it because they made more money and stuff pretending to be than if they worked at a real job. becareful because every since that aired I have seen more people standing at the walmart enterence. and at the exit ramps.

Do not help them! If you want to help give the money food to you local places that pass pass out food, clothes, help with rent, ect. Community action center is a place that helps. There are way to many drug abusers in this area. I've seen people going into places of business down town selling food, clothes, shoes, food stamps, pop, even beer! Just to make money for drugs. Ashley Swartz is good about doing this, but she is in jail for shoplifting again, again. Hopefully they will keep her in there for awhile!!! So don't help these homeless people, help animal shelters!
